Awesome, this will definitely help. Just had an 80s SL-1A dropped off at my shop today. It has the Fanuc 6T controller. Still have to give it power, but excited to start playing with it.

A huge help. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Now I just need to get my Fusion 360 post to work similar to yours.

I use this Fanuc 6T on a Ikeagai 40X for several years. 1* I make one time a small program for the G28 it's my work shift. This stay's in the memory, every time by jobsetting this machine this is my workshift. When i adjust every tool i calculate the index for using the G50 and put it on paper, so you get indexdiferents values for every tool. I don't dare using offsets whit diverences more than 1 mils. When i start a program, i will run firts my workshiftprogram, then the program of the workpiece. By the way i had the same issue whit the CRT, replaced it for 285 US from Ali Express.

I guess I am not understanding how placing your geometry offsets in the offset table is any better than placing them after a G50 for each tool in the program. Yes, you have to edit the program after you touch off each tool, but this then leaves your offset page free to use for wear/dialing in dimensions. I have a paper setup sheet that I fill out while I am touching off tools. I only edit the program once to enter my g50 values. Neither method gives you a great way to globally offset Z to compensate for setup changes or part changeovers unless your machine has the Macro B option. So for me a program might look like this: G99 N01 (operation step 1) G28 U0 W0 (go to home position) G50 X0 Z0 (this is how I store in the PC, after I touch off and measure each tool I go into program on the fanuc and edit x and z. So for a cnmg tool might be x12.67 z 15.23) T0100 (index to tool 1, no offset called) G96 S200 M03 (spindle mode, speed, turn on spindle) G50 S1600 (Set spindle max speed 1600 rpm. Yes G50 is also used to set spindle max speed) G00 x.85 z-.07 T0101 M08 (rapid to initial position, instate wear offset 1, turn on coolant. You instate the offset during a feed or rapid move so that the turret does not jump, it takes the offset into consideration to the final tool position at the end of the word. Machining steps Un-instate the wear offset during a feed or rapid move away from the work to a safe position, then G28 U0 W0 to take turret to home position. Unless or until you are 1000% comfortable with all aspects of the geometry offsets of these 6T controls, I would not suggest doing tool changes anywhere but home position. There is a lot to wrap your head around if you are wanting to shave a few seconds off of cycle time and do tool changes close to your workpiece. Love the video, still lots of good iron out there still making chips!

we run on average 40-50 programs a week in the 6T lathe, having to write down all the tool offsets and go in and manually edit all that Gcode would be a massive time killer. for Z offset of part origin, we skim the part or touch off with the T1 which has a Z offset in the tool register of Z0.0, and then go to the coordinates page for X/Z, and hit Z, then origin. Easy.

@@OlsonKustomWorksI assume the major time saver is only when you’re not regularly changing tools. I have the same 6T system and still can’t find any reasons to not use the G50… UNLESS you never change out tools constantly… which I usually have to.

@@shawnhuk no. Its not having to copy/paste every tools g50 values in every program every time.

We have a Fanuc 0T on a Slant Jr. Do you have a link to how to flip the x axis around? It would be nice to have the center line of the spindle as X0.

That 3 thou is not sag it’s backlash.
@OlsonKustomWorks11 ай бұрын
this machine has zero backlash, and no backlash comp active in the control. that "sag" is the delay in the X axis brake catching as the Estop is activated and the servo drive is powered down. Same thing that a Z will do on a mill, they will always drop a few thou when the power is killed before the pin or brake engages and grabs the servo.
