Just also saw someone who said to fold paper the other way, downwards instead of towards you, after making crease

I don't have an issue with my cards having the gap, nor do I have an issue with SU card stock tearing when folded. But, I do have an issue with cards not wanting to lay flat, when I use the really heavy, nice card stocks. The tip of scoring on both sides of the card stock is great, I'll be using it from now on!
@vernasummey15734 жыл бұрын
Excellent tip! I often thought that I did not have my cardstock aligned correctly. Also the tip scoring on both sides of cardstock to prevent cracking is priceless. Thank you soooo much.

I always make sure that I have got a longer layer on the top of the card as this makes it easier to open. So often you see people struggling to open a card when they are the same measurements. It is called a *leading edge* and I really like it. (I may be the only one, but that is fine with me!)
@tammyshaffer88364 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! As a relatively new cardmaker, this ALWAYS happened to me. I thought it was my scoreboard! Now, I see it's the "scoreboard operator" that's responsible!! Another commenter said she always cut that little edge off - me too!! Not any more!!

Thank you. I struggle with that all the time. That tip should help. About the frayed edge at the fold, Gina K said, after you score fold backwards instead of forwards like we usually do. That works too. Thanks again.

Thanks for the great tips, Maymay. Love all your videos. Can you give any tips when working with card layers. It seems almost every time I have a layer to place onto another color on the card front, it always seems to end up crooked. Thank you! Hope you and family are having a great week.

I've always folded my cards so that the bump is on the inside and that's how I teach as well. But I have watched you push your card into the side of the scoreboard and force it to fold where you want it to, and I've been doing that for quite a while now. That's a great tip!

I actually kinda liked the extra little bit hanging over the edge of the card, and made that longer edge the front of the card. It helped me to be able to open the card easier. BUT, if I do want both sides to be perfectly even, yours is a great tip! Thanks!
@gailottow53254 жыл бұрын
I don't mind the difference as I use the slightly longer side as the front of the card. It makes it easier to open the card.
@janedoe6704 Жыл бұрын
The cards the stores sell do this too! You just have to build the card so the difference makes it easier to open the way you want it to open.

I've been using your tip to fold on the scoreboard for a while now and randomly started doing this "force the edge" technique. I also find it helps if I score, turn paper over and rotate 90* then score again. Thank you for these tips.
@gsdmama24 жыл бұрын
I had that problem a couple of years ago and I used the stop to line up cardstock and then gently pressed down on the score line and the use the bone folder to get that nice crease. I love the idea of scoring on the backside of thick cardstock.

When scoring, I flip the card base over (end over end) then score the second time. This allows me to really butt up the two ends and fold where I want. This sort of tip really helped me get even bases. :D

Yes please! I have one with the wire guide and my cuts are usually a bit off. Line placement is the perfect question, I just never knew how to phrase it. 🙃

Scoring very gently multiple times can help too. Otherwise instead of stretching the paper fibers, we’re cracking them. Paper quality has an effect too, in my experience.

Thank you May May! That will help a lot. One thing I am struggling with now is making Christmas cards A2 size, but they are so thick, they don’t fit in an a2 envelope I make on my punch board. So, I am making them individually by using a diagonal square 8x8 and trying to get them centered well. They never are and my flaps aren’t even. Ugh!
@wordscrafter3 жыл бұрын
These are great tips. Thanks! Also, I've found that some of my heavier cardstock isn't cut to exact size. For example, I have a pack of recollection 110lb that I use for bases. I noticed that it was coming out wonky on all the sides. After going through several sheets and making sure I was doing everything correctly, I got a ruler and started measuring. Between the top and the bottom, the width was off a 1/16th of an inch. And it makes a huge difference. So instead of using it just for coloring stamped images (cause it's really good for that), I'm still using it for bases and just trimming slivers as needed.

When I saw the word "gap" in the title, I thought of Great Britain. In the subways, there is a strip in front of the track, that as the trains come in, a voice comes over the loudspeaker and tells everyone to "Mind the Gap." So, now I know we need to "mind the gap" with cards too. I wonder if G thought of the same thing. :-)
