I remember disabling the music at that point because it became irritating. Also found it frustrating that I couldn't have the vehicle radios playing without the overlaying music playing throughout the game as well. GTA V did the same thing. GTA IV allowed you to play in-vehicle music without game overlay music playing. I guess I just prefer the realism of no music in situations that don't call for it. Even most movies follow this rule. Ok, rant over.

Most replayable game ever. I don't even know how many times I've reset outposts. Bored? Challenge yourself by retaking all outposts with unsuppressed pistols or w/e. Nice video! I replayed it recently and one of the things that most of the players don't get about the 2nd act is that Hoyt is NOT the main villain. Sure, he runs the island and was above Vaas, but that's not just it. Vaas dies in the half of the game, and in the other half his presence is inside you. The second act is like you said, making missions, killing pirates and bla bla, and that's exaclty how Jason feels now. He is not killing for survival, he became a sadistic murder that doenst even know exactly why he is doing all that anymore. And then you get the amazing scene were he tortures his own brothrr, and questions what he has turned into. He can be as cruel, psycothic and dangerous as Vaas, that's what not only the second half is trying to tell you, but pretty much all the game (symetric menus, symetric loadings, visions switching Vaas to Jason...). And if you make the wrong choice at the end, you became even worst than him. That's why I consider Jason himself the great villain of the second act, followed by Citra and Hoyt.

@@tyleranthony4614 Yep I've finished 5's main story, and I also bought 4 during the sale. I just started 4 a few days ago, and I love it. The world is stunning and immersive, and I love all the little details that weren't carried to FC5 (i.e. more reactive foliage physics). Also, Pagan Min is great! I love Troy's performances (Joker, Joel) and he did a great job here. There are some things that 5 does better, like the press 'e' instead of hold 'e' for looting, enter cars, etc. Also, I prefer how 5 lets you go in and out of doors of buildings by walking into it rather than holding 'e' and waiting for Ajay to open and enter the doorway. 5 also has more realistic vegetation and better lighting, but 4 still holds up really well graphically.

4 was another great addition. Absolutely hated 5 though, not even going to bother with 6. Each new entry is just a rehash of the last with less and less originality and more and more goofy, immersion breaking stupidity added into it. 3 was the series peak, 4 was more of 3 in a new locale with another good story and antagonist as well as more new fun additions, and 2 is, in my opinion, my favorite game of the series, not like any of the others that followed. Laid the foundation, very very bare bones in comparison, but if you, like the guy in the video, loves danger and survival so much, then FC2 is definitely the game to play

Jason is not a White Savior. Respect to you as one of my favorite content creators, but I just have to push back on that part, you added it in and said it so definitively, but it's just way off. First, your description of what a White Savior is, frankly, is inaccurate. The way you described the term is distorted and incomplete, particularly because you are warping the term into something that functions for application to Jason's character. The only way to do this is to omit foundational aspects of what a White Savior actually is. White Saviors are affluent white people who patronize minority communities and project a sense of victimization onto them, propagate a bigotry of low expectations, and attempt to virtuously insert themselves within or above these communities, attempting to control or oversee societal/cultural dynamics within those communities, believing they wield more resources and possess institutional power/influence that only they could possibly obtain, and gift it downwards to liberate their pet community from perpetual victimhood which the White Savior sees them through a lens of. To describe Jason as White Savior is to reduce and minimize significant aspects of Far Cry 3's narrative that make the White Savior label a misapplication, and it diminishes the characters down to their skin color first and foremost, as if every other attribute that exists within each character flows downstream from their race. That line of thinking is dull, and it causes so many thematic elements and undercurrents in the writing to be missed completely. Far Cry 3 is foundationally a fish-out-of-water story. There's a reason the game opens with the quote from Alice in Wonderland. Alice wasn't a 'white savior' of Wonderland, to say she was would be to entirely misunderstand that story. Likewise with Far Cry 3. Jason is never once presented as a guy who does what he does as charity. He has no power, no resources, and no institutional say when the game begins on the island. In fact, it's the polar opposite. Jason never acts in a way where he wants to be seen as altruistic or heroic by the islanders either. He never shows any intention of liberating them from their downtrodden state of affairs as a primary objective of his. Every time he is tasked with anything that results in, theoretically, a better life for the innocent islanders, the actions he took only had positive results by happenstance. Jason is clearly introduced (and arguably never progresses beyond) a self-interested, self-centered, highly determined individual -- with a tendency towards spitefulness, vengefulness, wrathfulness, selfishness. His downward spiral into what he becomes on the island does not happen through a journey he takes on for the sake of the island or the people on it. The reasons he does what he does change as the game/storyline develops and progresses, but there is a consistent absence of any selfless desire to bring redemption to the inhabitants of the island. This is the most blaring indication that White Savior is a term wholly unrelated to Jason in Far Cry 3. I can understand how anyone could be swayed the sensationalizing of race on social media, and the idea that because Ubisoft responded to the allegation, that somehow gives it validity, but it really causes a misinterpretation and mischaracterization of the characters/narrative to force the label upon Jason/Far Cry 3. Unfortunate, too! No doubt- there is an overt aesthetic presentation of this game as something to be seen as simplistic, campy, superficial, and cheesy -- like a B-movie action-thriller, but underneath that surface there is a far deeper and infinitely more thought-provoking story being told in Far Cry 3.
@jayveeeee3 жыл бұрын
First off thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I can tell you put a lot of thought into it and I really do appreciate that. I won’t be able to give you a thorough response right now, but I will say I put my mini-analysis of this point towards the end of the story section because like I said - this wasn’t a big issue to me as I was playing. And this video was meant to be a holistic look instead of focusing on that single point. It’s a fascinating discussion and I do agree with a lot of your points.

"Vaas does not appear enough in the first two acts" disagree there. Part of what the story great is the writers didn't overuse him. That would detract from his impact. Playing a fun, well-made game with a focused concept is somehow rare nowadays. So many games are meshing categories together (RPG, Action, Open-World, Choose-your-own-adventure, even Souls-like) for the sake of “variety”. The most infamous of which are the newer Assassin’s Creeds, but this even extends to games like Jedi: Fallen Order. Why was there a Dark Souls bonfire system in a Star Wars game? I have no idea. Even decent games like Horizon: Zero Dawn are victim of this. HZD was a solid open-world action-adventure game, but it also had an inconsequential dialogue system that only provided the illusion of an RPG. Going back and playing the classic Far Crys, AC games, and Arkham games is a breath of fresh air and a reminder of how good games can be.

Lesson’s learned from FarCry 2 where weapon degradation was a thing, fast travel was extremely limited, and you had to frequently find medication because your character had malaria. The game had companions that could get you out of a jam, but they could die all too easily.

Far Cry 5 has a cool intro, I love how the cultists climb into the helicopter blades to bring it down. But nah, Far Cry 3’s is still much better. Michael Mando (Vas) is a stellar actor, and it really does a good job setting the tone of the game and immersing you in this feeling of being in over your head in a dangerous and remote place. Also, the rest of the game is actually good, and Far Cry 5 is soulless dog shit imo :(

What’s with the weird obsession with Jason’s race?
@jayveeeee2 жыл бұрын
because Jeffery Yohalem intentionally wrote it from the point of view of a white 25-year-old from LA. Jeffrey literally uses the phrases "white colonial trope" to describe Jason's journey. he also says it's Jason's fantasy to be the white guy who has sex with a beautiful woman from a foreign country. if you don't think the story was written with the intent of being from Jason's white dude-bro point of view, you either weren't paying attention or you're so insecure about any topic that paints race in a negative light that you refuse to accept it. even when the WRITER HIMSELF wrote it that way and has said so on record. come on now 😅 edit: before you ask, google "Far Cry 3 white savior" and click on the Eurogamer article
@Noplayster132 жыл бұрын
@@jayveeeee Farcry 3 had over 5 writers. None of them made a big deal about Jason’s skin color in game. Not even Yohalem. As for Yohalem, you have to put his comments into their proper context. He was being attacked constantly on Twitter by people calling him a white supremecist and a white savior. Panicked, he retroactively claimed that it was all about colonialism and some such nonsense in order to save his own skin. Even though it *clearly* had nothing to do with that. You can tell because many of the things he spoke about contradict story elements in game. He claims that Cetra murders Jason because she hated his colonialism for trying to take over the island, but he forgot (or never knew), that Cetra is a foreigner herself who took over the island. You can’t have Cetra be the embodiment of colonialism and also be a native resisting the evils of colonialism. Plus, it’s just a lie. Cetra is in love with Jason and begs him not to leave at the end. This is what we in the business call *a retcon.* Now, on to the next point. It’s hardly Jason’s sex fantasy *(not that there would be anything wrong with interracial sex)* (Seriously, it’s weird that you think that’s bad) when it is Cetra herself that brought up sex and keeps pushing for it all game. It’s almost like Yohalem forgot everything that happened in his own story. Bottom line, dude panicked when the inquisitors came for him and hastily wrote a bunch of poorly thought out, contradictory excuses in order to appease the mob. But it gave you the excuse to pointlessly explore your own racial bigotries, so that’s good.

I am a 43yr old gamer... From my teens in the 90's through to my early 20's I absolutely LOVED gaming! As life became more serious, gaming sort of took a back seat until I eventually stopped gaming all together. When I hit 34 in 2012 I was in a very good place financially. I had finally saved up enough cheese to start my own business. Being my own boss I was able to work when I wanted. Because I am good at what I do I suddenly had more free time and with it more money. I decided to do something that I had always wanted to do but could never afford... Build a gaming rig... And the first game that I played on that gaming rig was Far Cry 3. It is safe to say that FC3 is the game that got me back into gaming. Having not played a video game in nearly a decade I was blown away and it became the game that I compared all other games to. For the longest time FC3 was my standard for what a good game should be when it comes to story and immersion. I agree in that FC3 is very much sexualized... BUT... I have been to Ochos Rios, Jamica and stayed in the Dominica Republic for a couple of days. My friend and I decided to go off the beaten path and venture outside of the tourist locale to get a good feel of the culture up close and personal and try the genuine cuisine (not the touristy stuff). If you research the making of FC3 you will see that Ubisoft had a team travel to similar locations to scout out interesting areas for inspiration... Ochos Rios, Dominica Republic, Brazil... Outside of the tourist attractions and in poor neighborhoods it is unfortunately just as you see in FC3. I was propositioned twice for "certain acts" in Ochos Rios. Although I was not approached in the DR it wasn't hard to miss what was going on, and therefor I stayed clear of it. I believe that Ubisoft was going for more of an "unfortunate truth" when showing these things. If one was to suddenly be thrust into the underbelly of a "Dominica Republic", Ochos Rios or even Mexico City" type of area you would most definitely see this type of unruly, lude and uncomfortable behavior. While games have tremendously changed in the last decade, I still look to FC3 when judging single player games. I never will forget how uncomfortable, scared and alive FC3 made me feel. Yup... FC3 was and still is one of the best games that I have ever played. Because the world is a much more "sensitive" place these days I am not sure that devs are going to be willing to take risks on giving us that "uncomfortable' realism and danger that FC3 created. Cookie cutter games are becoming the Norm. For me, Red Dead 2 and God of War are the best games that I have played in a looong time and I am dying for another seriously great single player campaign that knocks my socks off!
@sarahphyllis57823 жыл бұрын
