So this video is where I disappeared to for the past month. I know it's easy to hate on a creator for trying new things, but my moods and drive to make videos drops massively when I can't actually BE CREATIVE. So please, just give it a chance, much love! Fun Fact: when the US Supreme Court was deciding a case on whether sales of violent video games to minors should be banned in California, Justices Kagan and Breyer played Postal 2 as an example of a violent, offensive game. Breyer was disgusted, but Kagan was having fun with it, and the court ruled 7-2 against banning violent video game sales to minors, I believe citing the fact that it should be up to the parents to decide what kind of things their children should be exposed to, and that the children would just get adults to buy the games for them anyway.

I was doing a pacifist run when I tried to get Gary's autograph, but for some reason someone waiting in line aggro'd Gary so everyone pulled out shotguns(Hestonworld moment) and started killing each other. After Gary massacred everyone else around him, he got stuck kicking a corpse and would never go back to his desk to let me actually finish the task. I tried making friends with him by kicking the same cadaver but I guess I got boot dirt on his suit because he immediately started lobbing grenades at me. Cut to me trying to lead Gary Coleman around the mall while he ripped me apart with an assault rifle, hoping he'd accidentally shoot someone else and THEY would kill him. After 20 minutes of mass slaughter, a few cops FINALLY managed to kill Gary and I could take his autograph from his tiny, headless corpse. Modern gaming needs more moments like this.

One thing I may add to this topic: despite it quite "cartoonish" looks and apparent "clunkyness", Postal 2 had some nicely done technical features: NPCs had ability to react both to Dude's or other NPCs action in various ways (like when walking with unzipped pants), they also had functional facial expressions. You may use kick to open doors or deflect incoming rockets. You can precisly cut of limps or part of it, or decapitate someone and move the head by kick or showel (and NPCs would still react to this). You may even choke of your own piss, eat a shit, lure cops with donuts and we still didnt mention all actions that are possible. Even if we found some features "immature" or "disturbing", the amount of care and passion RWS put into Postal 2 is incredible and adding gameplay as violent as player, truly put the game much above type of gore slasher, as many would like to see it. Also, any video about Postal 2 without Tora Bora map is incomplete.

The creators had this interesting quote about why they changed the first postal’s ending in postal redux: “The whole idea of the original ending no longer applies anyway - it was supposed to depict something that, at the time, would have been completely unthinkable, and out of touch with reality. Tragically the sad truth is that, in today's world, it is no longer an unthinkable nightmare but a very depressing reality. “

Of course, its not as bad as the 35 incidents that took place between 1993 and 1994(and about 30 the year before that) however, looking at the fact that we already have 27 shootings 7 months in the year, we aren't looking so great. I feel like the elementary school being added in was a creative way of showing how you've become a monster without actually having to harm the children. You took yourself here to act upon your urges, even if you didn't hurt them, the thought of actually doing it shows how far the main character (and also the player) have fallen from humanity. The ending shouldn't of been changed because it reflects on the player's actions. At the time postal came out, video game violence was a hotly debated topic, and what is playing a violent video game besides playing pretend with extra steps? Postal Dude could have been isolated as a result of having violent fantasies, and in solitary confinement his mental state could have deteriorated to such a degree that he's convinced he's living out those fantasies. I'm pretty sure that's not the intended message, but I enjoy thinking of messages you /could/ take away from a story, even if it's inaccurate

It’s just a video game where you can comically murder anyone you want and pee on their corpses if you feel so compelled to. @Gabriel Kobari you still havent linked said articles, ive read that games can actually be therapeutic to those with a leaning towards violence as it can be a medium in which they can express such anger without endangering others, ive also read that people predisposed to violence irl are drawn to videogames anyway and that games do not cause actions taken irl. Blaming art or any medium for violence irl is the laziest cop out, scapegoating ever, blaming gaming is the newest fad, before this was violent movies and tv, before that it was radio, before that it was newspapers, books, magazines etc, music being blamed has existed the longest.
@mallardofmodernia80922 жыл бұрын
@Gabriel Kobari its only link is that people who cant commit the acts of sadism they already want to commit do it in the virtual. Videogames are not a teaching tool for acts of evil, yes sure, give me the title of the said book (is it public property like in a free access digi library or is it bought?). Mediums cannot be blamed for the actions of willing individuals who had such evil machinations beforehand or had tell tale signs beforehand (if youre reading up on psychology so much you must realise how many who blamed videogames as a legal cop out (and not as an actual truthful defence) suffered from mental illnesses previously or other factors that are absolute priority over videogames such as bullying, drug addiction, mental health issues etc. The scapegoating of different mediums needs to stop and its quite ironic calling others immature adults or children. And I dont have what i presume is discord you are on about, as i dont have many social medias.

Instead of getting the help he needs he is left to suffer and be tortured by his twisted mind prisson. I love this scene because it so perfectly makes me feel unwell.
@natnatnatnat32262 жыл бұрын
i know this video came out a long time ago, but i think the scene with the elementary schoolers in the first postal is where the dude finally realized what he was doing was wrong because he saw his own dead son as the children. that's why they all look identical to each other, they're all his dead son and he can't kill him. this could be because the son is already dead, but i think it's more symbolic of his love for his son and how he, the monster of the entire game who kills all that crosses his path of rage, couldn't bring himself to harm him (or the children he replaced). the post-hardmode scene is almost certainly a flashback of the funeral of his son and the children laughing is likely a callback to the elementary school level. this is more speculative, but maybe the son was killed by something other than disease, perhaps a person. this may explain why the dude couldn't kill the children at the school, because he would become the same type of person that killed his son (and ruined his entire life). it's this event that the flashback arises from. at the funeral, his current self falls to his knees because he realizes the gravity of the situation and thinks of all the other lives he's ruined on his rampage. he can't bring himself to hurt anyone else and the imagery of his son as all the children is what forces him to this conclusion.

The whole theory that the Postal 1 player character is Dude’s dad kinda works. Considering the fact that Dude’s dad is the final boss in Postal 4: No Regerts, and it’s also revealed that Dude’s dead “father” in Postal 2 is actually he’s stepfather. The whole pacifist thing introduced in Postal 2 could make sense in the way of, Dude’s dad goes nuts commits the acts he did in Postal 1 and is locked up, (the coffin ending meaning the death of himself to his family), then Dude is sent to live with his mother who finds another man being Dude’s stepfather, Dude is then raised to be normal, however he still has he’s Father’s violent tendencies in him. Over here in Germany Postal 2 was never commercially available because our censors really didn't like it. Which only made it so much more appealing to us back in the day. I was a teenager at the time, and Postal 2 was this legendary game everyone talked about at school, but most people didn't even have it and just shared rumors. I remember one dude telling me that one of the missions on the first day is to go to the bakery and buy bread, and you can go postal and kill the baker and then the bread will be splattered with blood and you get to take soggy blood-soaked bread home... Looks like the "get milk from the store" mission turned into something much more brutal thanks to the rumor mill! I finally got a pirated copy of the game in the mid-00s and it was hilarious. I expected something way more gruesome, kinda like what Hatred ended up being, but got something with way more humor and less serious violence instead. But hey, edgy teens who wanna feel badass are gonna brag that they play the MOST VIOLENT GAME EVER that's banned in our country, and embellish the actual scenes from the game to make it seem more extreme than it is.

It's not because our censors didn't like it. They are just a bunch of wusses who have no sense of humour whatsoever.

Some people don't think like this and take it as an offense to the entire world. Such is the flaw of our emotions when we are driven less by common sense and more on brain washing, whether it's deliberate or not.

The first postal game makes me think of that old amiga game Damage: The sadistic butchering of mankind. On that game your goal is to get to the presidents bunker and use the nukes to kill as many people on earth, obviously on the way killing everyone on the way, From civilians to police and military. The game even have kill counter that just keeps going up as you play.

What was the story about?
@mongoose84212 жыл бұрын
@@Turbs94945 If you are familiarized with the Postal lore it is clear that the events in the story are taking places far back in the past. Lead character is a unemployed man with two troubled kids(one of them later becoming the Postal dude himself) moving into small town in Midwest finding an under payed job. As things were about the hit the fan he finds a part time job testing new experimental military drug that improves combat capabilities(again if you know the lore it is clear that it is a catnip) Story is full of fowl language violence and all other sorts of politically incorrect stuff. It is called The green cat, life and times of Mike the dude senior. I don't think it is available anywhere now.

I was starting High School when the first Postal came out. The dark tone didn't sit with me for very long, so I was thrilled with the 2nd game. It was crazy at the time, you could just do missions in whatever order, you could just NOT kill people, and then I got to help Gary Coleman fight the feds. I think they actually did mocap for him. I didn't know about Postal 3 until recently and wow, what a mess. That music from the opening bridge sequence is just so baffling, and it will haunt my dreams.

Also if i remember correctly: RWS dev that worked on the postal 1 redux said that he changed the ending because school shooting is more often nowadays and it wouldn't have this much impact on people anymore.

I think one of my fondest memories of Postal 2 , was how it drove our cat absolutely nuts when I put that silencer on my gun. She would be jumping all over my desk and smacking at the monitor. I honestly think it was the best game of the series. It just seemed to strike a balance that worked IMO
@en41352 жыл бұрын
I took Postal serious for about 15 seconds. Because my first experience of it was a Postal 2 frag montage very similar to that opening in which the player kills a crowd using a variety of weapons. All the "edge" went away from the cat ass silencer came out along with the pissing.

I think it makes sense about the postal 1 theory considering that he couldn’t kill any of the kids in the primary school AND they were all wearing the same exact clothing and hairstyles and size. They were all just the same exact image of his kid and he couldn’t hurt them. Not to mention the burial for the second ending has postal’s main character and his wife, with his wife revealing she has blonde hair allowing genes to pass down and having her kid with blonde hair as well.
@SilverBack21698 ай бұрын
I honestly love your theory for the ending of postal 1, it really does tie everything together in probably the most sensical way we could speculate. Might just be a theory, but thats definitely the idea I'm sticking with

Going postal: The expression derives from a series of incidents from 1986 onward in which United States Postal Service (USPS) workers shot and killed managers, fellow workers, and members of the police or general public in acts of mass murder. That's where this game comes from.
