Far Cry 5 has a problem

The release of the Lost on Mars DLC has seen the addition of some new weapons to Far Cry 5's base game. These new weapons have destroyed any semblance of balance the game had from launch until now and it's a frustrating experience for anyone who enjoyed using the weapons that they did, now doing so means purposefully handicapping your effectiveness.
More than focusing on Far Cry 5 specifically, I would like to hear from people about their thoughts concerning balance inside our favorite games and whether a move like this is bad overall for a game's health.

Me too. I don't like the op nature of the weapons, so I restrain myself from using them. When I did use them, it became too easy to enjoy, so I discarded em, never to use them again (except to try and incinerate John and Jacob's bodies)

Yeah op weapons are only fun for a short while like my dagger in skyrim one hitting a dragon with it was hilarious first few times but removed the challenge so I removed it

Well iIm stoked that you guys decided to watch another one. That first loadout video took on a life of it's own, none of my other videos have any where near that number of views, so I am kind of worried that people dont like the content overall and that one video just got struck by luck lightning. Any time I see that someone has watched more than a single video its a big relief.

Its a good call if youre trying to get any sort of challenge from the game. Maybe after beating the campaign you can play around with them some if you get the DLC. The DLC is pretty much a rip off though so only get it if you really think youre going to like it.

Great video! I have a philosophically different view of this “OP weapons in the DLC” question. See, many games, especially open world style (Saints Row, GTA, Fallout, etc.) have cheats or mods you could use. You could just give yourself all the best gear from level 1, turn on the “never die” cheat and rip through the game, unchallenged. Similarly, in nearly every game, you COULD choose easy difficulty, and never worry about money/ammo/etc. So, While you could technically call it “intentionally handicapping yourself” to choose standard weapons. I think ultimately we always “handicap” ourselves when playing any game. Anytime we choose Hard difficulty, etc. To me, it’s all about finding the right mix of challenge, and fun. I like weapons that feel satisfying. And gameplay that feels challenging and rewarding. I usually settle for “hard” difficulty in games, but not the highest expert mode if it’s included, as that’s the level of play I have the most fun with. In other words, There’s enough of a challenge to be rewarded, but I don’t like feeling stressed out and underpowered 24/7. Just my $.02

Yes when you get addicted to strolling through easily, it becomes hard to get rid of mods, op stuff, ect, because then the game feel a lot harder, I myself still cant get off the annihilazer

Totally agree. It might seem counterintuitive that many - I'd venture a guess to say most - gamers "intentionally make the game more difficult than it has to be", but that's because your average gamer doesn't have a mindset of min-maxxing. They're just doing whatever they find to be fun, because that's their only goal.

For the Quinn! Guarantee persistence will payoff. I’ve seen so many hang at 2-5k subs but knew the content was gonna be success and within a few weeks finally get catapulted gaining 5-10k or more subs a weeks. Persist consistently with content and you’ll be 100k+subs in no time.

We have got to grow your channel. Great video. I totally agree with your points on the DLC weapons. The only other drawback to these weapons I noticed was they damage the meat and skin when hunting. (Or as you pointed out disintegrate the target) The combat rifle is the one exception. As for the future, dont pidgeon toe yourself. Diversify into a few games you enjoy and tell us what you like. TzDon't limit your weapons. Shoot for the sky or hit the ground running my friend....

Thats totally fair, I wish more than anything there were simply restrictions in place such as a requirement of completing the main story or a cost that is several times that of the other weapons. For people who are just now picking the game up on sale bundled with the DLC, this is going to suck all of the challenge from an already pretty easy game - and thats a shame.

It's 2020 and I've never played a Far Cry before, so I'm definitely in a specific niche, but FWIW the martian weapons just feel out of place in the main campaign. I pull one out for a silly rampage now and then but bows and shotguns just feel better when I want that immersive Montana survivalist experience. Thanks!

Tried out the Martian weapons the first to I played and loved it! For an hour. Then I realised there was no challenge, not even for a newbie, and restarted the game without touching them. I don’t mind having better starter weapons with DLC...but it takes away the excitement when you start with the best without needing to upgrade anything.

Holy shit, I haven't laughed so hard at any other FC5 clip as that opening one with the eagle! That was beautiful xD I'm one of those ones that just choose to not use the new weapons in the main game. I agree with your sentiments on the original weapon selection being well balanced, and how important that is for a game to really be *fun*. I also feel that using such foreign designs for weapons breaks too much immersion in the main game, so I just choose not to use them. I get why some players, maybe even most, will throw at least one of the alien weapons in their loadout, but that would take away _way_ too much of the fun factor for me.

You are right that the weapons make any playthrough stupid easy, however, you are wrong on your premise that the weapons should not be included in the main game. Only the player has access to these weapons so the player does not set himself at a disadvantage by not using them. Yes, a player who chooses other weapons is not choosing the best (on paper) weapons, but that choice should be left to the player. Ultimately, that is what is important. The player has the choice whether to use those weapons or not. His/Her playthrough will be affected, but only through their own choices. Ubisoft provided players another way to play, and though I think you and I may agree that the playthrough would be less fun than we would like it may be a blast too others. Not including those weapons would not change much, but it would deprive players of another way to play that they may have not previuosly thought they would enjoy. So, no. I disagree with you that Ubisoft should not have included the Martian weapons in the main game. They have provided the player with the choice to use them, and even if I don't use them because they are OP I do appreciate that I was given the choice.

Coming to this 5 years late. FC5 has long been one of my favorite games to play, not because it's a "great game" that belongs in the same conversation as RDR2 or TLOU (it isn't and it doesn't), but because it's simply a really fun game to play. While it's goofy nature, what with the ridiculous AI and insane scenarios one might find themselves in, on the surface seems to lend itself to an insane load out like the Martian Kit, I gotta say I'm really happy that I never decided to purchase that DLC now that I've watched this video. Sure, there's always the option to "not use" a particular weapon, but there is a psychological component involved in which you fully understand that you're intentionally weakening yourself for the sake of a challenge, and while the argument could be made that that's exactly what I'm doing by avoiding the purchase, I still feel like a monetary excuse is a legitimate one. Thanks for this. Even all these years later, it was helpful and I'm hopeful that I'm not the only one who finds that to he the case here in 2024

My load out is the blood dragon skinned mb50 sniper with all upgrades, the flameout shotgun with silencer, red dot and extended mag. My last slot changes based on what I am doing. For hunting I go with the recurve. Most missions I use the whitetailer ak-ms fully kitted with red dot, silencer and extended mag. I also use the militia lmg with red dot, silencer and extended mag. Side arm I use sin eater shotgun.

balancing is necessary but in my opinion it needs more metrics like weight, durability, reliability, cost, rarity and cost of the ammo. the problem with that dlc is it gave them to you for free if it had you find them or pay for them it might not have been so big of a problem.

Yeah thats my problem, I use a very similar set of weapons when I play and now when I do I feel like I am intentionally making myself weaker than I need to be. I was so frustrated with this when I went to try and test them for an updated loadout video.

My buddy and I that play FC5 used them for a bit and then switched our loadouts back out because it was just boring to one shot everything.

I get the concept behind adding a cheap thrill to the game, for the first 15 minutes it feels great to faceroll your way through everything so easily, but after that it becomes apparent that there will never be another challenge again. This is made worse by the fact that the game wasn't ever that challenging in the first place. I wish they would put some of sort of restriction on them since I know they wont ever just flat out remove them - maybe even just making them ridiculously expensive instead of giving them for free.

I'm not planning on using them. I like to have actual weapons. I loved the weapons given in the other DLC. I didn't like the AR-15 in base game but the M-16 had much better ironsights and was a good first assualt rifle for me since I had to start over after playing my friends game for a while and nearly beating the game. My loadout hasn't really changed much. M60 is still my best for boss fights because of the chore of reloading, AK47 is great all around rifle, bow is a must for stealth and to make money. VZ-61 skorpion are still my prefered loadout. I will swap the m60 for when not in a boss fight for the rat4. cluster ammunition for when there are acceptable casualties.

If I am not performing to the best I possibly can though its like an itch in the back of my mind that I cant scratch and it slowly drives me insane. I usually intentionally handicap myself in some online games. BF1 for example I use some of the least used and sometimes down right terrible weapons. It's just who I am. Play with shit and get good with shit so when I use the best weapons I'm usually far more efficient than the average user of the cheese weapons. The only exclusion from this is the peacemaker revolver. It's the best in game but I spent 4 days translating morse code, finding glyphs, solving puzzles, and getting hidden easter eggs to unlock the fucker in BF1. I use slug shotguns over buckshot because you need accuracy, 5 or 6 shot medic rifles(having the fastest TTK but only if you get that as a reward for accuracy), perino LMG or pieper revolver rifle for support, and snipers I use only ironsights on the 1895 trench rifle or the 1903 experimental with k bullets for distance. Melee is a medium weapon. Cogwheel club but in my hands it's deadly since I'm #1 in kills worldwide on my platform with it.

it's just modern day cheat codes. there is nothing wrong with it. You can choose to do it or not. many people love it or people like me, bored and have NEVER used them will use them now just to play through it again. Might as well take it on a different take. and yes, I did stealth and full Rambo renegade play styles. So this is somewhat of a treat I guess. I still love the magnopulser above all.

These weapons look fun for a romp. I'm streaming the game and they are there and available from the start. I won't be using them because I consider them a novelty. As mentioned they take away from the intended gameplay. This being my first run through I'm enjoying the game immensely as initially released and intended. Hunting, fishing, looting, buying and selling. I'll see about this silliness down the road if I give the game another go or two. Maybe holster one up.

Many gamers would prefer to be overpowering then having to strategize for being underpowered, the very reasons why when playing Fallout 4, my favorite part is the first 20+ levels when having to use pipe rifles.

Oh God, Fallout 4 (and 3 too) has horrible balancing problems if you choose the right perks. In that game I dont mind it so much because there are still things you can run into that can be more of a challenge and the gun play often takes a back seat to other mechanics. In Far Cry, where 99% of the game is focused on combat, it straight up ruins it for me to never struggle. It drives me nuts that they did this.

I tend to think that stealth is the most fun way to play in general, the game is already sort of easy even on 'Hard' and stealth provides a thin layer of extra challenge while also giving some more rewards on top. The Martian weapons not even having a single stealth offering is incredibly annoying to me, but at the end of the day atleast that is a reason for not being forced into using them.

I’m sure Ubisoft included these weapons for two reasons: (1) marketing for Lost on Mars, and (2) the vast majority of people that will play FC5 have already beaten the game and don’t take the single player campaign seriously anymore.

That may very well be true, part of the reason this kills me so much is that the game badly needed a NG+ mode since the day it launched and now that these have been introduced I am positive NG+ will never be added. Thats on top of the already extensive balance problems that have been injected by their arrival.

The Mars DLC ruined farcry 5. It made the regular campaign face roll easy the Martian guns show of never carried over. The Devs never really balanced any of the weapons for weeks. I would wait for the update in hops of a new rifle that would rival the AKS, but it never did. When we finally did get a new rifle it's only had 4 damage, compared to 6 on the AKs. It was a total let down and showed players that devs didn't want to balance the game. Yes I know FC6 is out but I still play this for fun and have adapted your AKs, Recurve bow, Spanish, and Scropion load put because it works. I think the devs just got lazy

I watched your first load out and then this one directly after it by accident 😂 I filtered by upload date and the title caught my eye. I agree with everything you said in both. I dropped all other weapons after getting the dlc ones. They are definitely OP. Can make for a good time though if all you need after a hard day is to feel like a total bad*ss 😃

This has all the logic of the people 'protesting' EA because of those DLC loot boxes they just can't help but purchase and make EA richer. Just... Just don't use the thing that bothers you. And if it still bothers you, don't play the game and vote with your dollars that the developer is doing a good job. Because then they'll do it again. Because you can't help yourself.

Well if the dlc isn't that good and the weapons are poorly balanced I probably just... won't get it. I like having to switch weapons on the fly and tailor loadouts to particular situations

The idea that players have to intentionally handicap themselves to not steamroll the game is a flaw, it may be a bigger flaw for some people instead of others, but it definitely is one. ESPECIALLY since they patched in NG+ and the harder difficulty, which is made much easier by the inclusion of the Martian weapons. I dont understand their move here, it undermines the entire weapon economy in the game.

I think they should have atleast made them several times the cost of regular weapons or require players to beat the game prior to unlocking them. Sure they are fun for a short spurt of cheap thrills but using them removes any semblance of challenge from an already easy game. I certainly dont know if I would ever call FC5 boring without the Martian weapons, I dont normally go in for games like this but I had alot of fun with this one specifically.

I always choose to handicap myself in far cry games. They are boring to play otherwise. Except for the older games. Far cry 2 nailed it best. That game was decently difficult.

I agree that they are too easy, even when on "Hard". I still think they should make it harder to get access to broken weapons like that though, those things are so strong it's incredible.
