I know this was 3 years ago, and I played it when it released but wound up here because I was showing my girlfriend things about it since we were talking about how modern Christianity seems to have a rising controversial pastor left and right so I mentioned this being one of my favorite games that fits the convo topic. But that’s besides the point. Games like this are primarily story games, they’re different from something like elden ring which is meant to be a challenging game that not everyone can/will “beat”, hence why you don’t have to beat every “boss” in elden ring. You can just choose. In this game, you HAD to beat each boss to get the finale, and there were choices. Similar with fallout 4. Also, there is a difficulty filter, which I’m guessing you either found it or didn’t and you may never even see this comment anyways.

Sony is marketing the game under their brand because they sold more consoles which means more money for Ubisoft, and Ubisoft is sponsoring the PlayStation console because of that. I think that's the case

I wouldn't be so sure. In general it seems like the media backlash has been focused more on guns as the problem and actually against the notion that violent video games are responsible. Plus, while this game has its fair share of violence just like any other shooter, it doesn't emphasize anything related to killing innocents (and actually penalizes you for doing so) unlike say Grand Theft Auto. The game is more likely to get backlash from the exact opposite crowd because of the depiction of a pseudo-Christian cult as the antagonists, which it already has actually gotten flak about.
