Great match! Diego had a very phisical semi-final, had to play a really long first game, I mean, he made his best. Farag was very clever, played really well during the whole week, well deserved!! Two great players, no antics, high quality game! Really nice to watch!!

Should we not give these guys an extra day rest before the final? I think it would improve the quality of the final. They do it at Wimbledon for example and tennis is arguably less demanding...
@peterhammer4644
@peterhammer4644 2 жыл бұрын
you mean playing up to 5 hours is less demanding? Its different kind of tiredness but definitely not less demanding.
@PrashanthRaoNDZ

@@peterhammer4644Tennis is more endurance based while squash required explosive power together with stamina, but major difference is you get more time to rest in tennis, which favour player who can quickly recuperate their stamina and strength. Both are demanding nevertheless, but squash at the highest level is slightly more demanding.
@peterhammer4644

@@PrashanthRaoNDZ I have to disagree. I have played badminton at National top level and squash at A-level (second highest tier) so I know both squash and badminton very well. I still have the utmost respect for tennis with those gruelling long matches in mens Grand Slam tournaments. The longest squash matches are around 90 min, which is not even close to the longest tennis matches. What did McEnroe and Becker play in Davis Cup, 7 hours? Badminton, squash and tennis are all different kind of demanding, where badminton demands the most explosive power in a short periods as rallies are mostly around 10-20 seconds. Squash is between tennis and badminton but none of these 3 sports are more demanding than any other physically imho. I do agree though that Bo3 in tennis takes some of the physicality away. I remember when we compared test between badminton and squash top players in our country and badminton players had by far more explosive power. Than again squash players had clearly better results in Cooper test (12 min) or similar. Sami Elopuro (world ranking best ever Finn) used to run 4000m in 12 min.

@@peterhammer4644 You are so ignorant. In the 97 minutes vs. 288 mins (squash vs tennis records), Momen ran 5000m whilst Nadal ran 2700m. Ball was in play 60% of that time in squash, only 15% of the time in tennis. Average metres covered per rally in squash - 49m, vs 9.4m. Just stop embarassing yourself defending that sport. It has enough attention and supporters already

I don't necessarily disagree with anyone here, which is why I used the weasel word "arguably" in my original comment. Does anyone agree that a rest day would be better before the final (and probably before the semi) would be a good idea?

The first rally of this video shows you why Farag is a top 3 in the world right now. He was losing the rally, slowed the tempo down with 2 defensive shots, then goes on the offence to win the rally. To Elias's credit, I've never seen another player stretch Farag out like Elias did in the first 2 games.

I think that the problem is that he's playing Farag's game and unless you have the fitness of Paul Coll you're not going to win that. People like the Elshorbagy brothers and Dessouky on a good day know how to derail Farag's game but most players just play predictable squash exactly how Farag likes it and he then beats them with anticipation and shot accuracy.
