We've run a few events on the showground. They do love to tell you which gate to use, wait for you to do a traffic mangement plan, let everyone who's coming know where to go to, them change the gates at day before.

I live 2 miles down the road from the Lincs Showground. The council put a 30mph speed limit in place on the A15 (usually 50mph) and other surrounding roads, ONE WEEK BEFORE this event ! Absolutely stupid decision, making everyone frustrated and having to crawl along for miles down a main road, a week before the event even started. I saw some pictures of all the trucks churning up the parking areas, as it pissed down with rain and turned the grass fields into mud baths. Trying to get anywhere for locals while all of the surrounding roads were literally long lines of lorries, was pathetic. I appreciate vehicles have to get to/from the venue, and I have nothing against trucks or their drivers, but spare a thought for locals who were stuck in all this, just trying to get on with their daily lives. The point you make about everybody paying, truck exhibitors, public, vendors, etc is very valid. The city council always charge everyone ridiculous money and make an absolute fortune, and they do this for every event in the city, the cycle races, the 10k runs, the christmas market, and more. The council make a fortune, and the city residents who might not even be interested in any of the events, have to suffer for it. When the 10k run is on, we can't even get off our estate, they close ALL the roads for hours, and we are literally trapped on our estate, it's a massive safety concern (fires/ambulance), and when you work all week plus Saturday, and only have a Sunday to get our or do shopping, it completely screws you over. The Lincoln City council don't care, they are making an absolute fortune .....

This is why the east of England showground was ideal for these sort of events, I went to my first BMF show there in 1981 and my last in 2012 and the mcn festival of bikes since. I attended my first truckfest at the east of England showground in 1985 and my last 2 years ago. I don't believe the decision to sell off the remainder of the showground for building was financial because they can only sell it once, I believe that Peterborough council had other reasons for stopping the various shows there as well as the speedway. Shame

If your into your older tack I'd highly recommended heading to Llandudno transport festival next year, the have everything there... Cars tractors vintage trucks bikes, modern trucks and even miniature steamers, cost us 10 quid to get in for the day. Bargain. Keep on strugglin' 👍🏻
