As host of CNN's "GPS," Fareed Zakaria dives into global issues with scholars, presidents, and the occasional celebrity. An optimist, Zakaria is nonetheless concerned about what he characterizes as a darkness in America brought on by people "who feel that they are not benefiting from all the changes in society." He talks with "Sunday Morning" contributor Kelefa Sanneh about his new book, "Age of Revolutions," in which he writes about how societies both embrace change and resist it.
"CBS News Sunday Morning" features stories on the arts, music, nature, entertainment, sports, history, science and Americana, and highlights unique human accomplishments and achievements. Check local listings for CBS News Sunday Morning broadcast times.

4:48 "Thier world is going away". To me, this is one of the biggest factors that drives the “MAGA” crowd. I use to live in a semi rural area when I was growing up. That world that I grew up in is fading away at an exponential rate. The MAGA crowd don't see themselves fitting into the new world that is evolving. I'm not making making an excuse for the MAGA crowd, but I do think, on a subconcious level, that is what scares them the most.

As y'shua (jesus) once said.."it is the spirit that makes alive, the body profits nothing"..yet in today's world,it seems that to seek individuality means never to think of others..never quantifying empathy or compassion. It is to just seek individual importance because at at time that the world is more crowded- when the tools of man connects everyone - we are more alone and afraid. It will not get better for it is the age "when love grows cold" (y'shua)

With all respect to CBS, it is not Fareed’s knowledge and judgement that made him famous, it is sadly the American media’ shallowness and naiveness about understanding of the world especially the Middle East.I.e. Fareed at the time did not have a good understanding about Afghanistan, Iraq and currently about Mulla’s in Iran. . It is sad that he said the American politicians listen and get advices from people like him as well as agencies like NIAK about the world and probably Iran. No wonder the honest American efforts did not achieve great results in the Afghanistan, Iraq, and currently in Iran.

Interesting moment in time. Physics seems to have reached the limits of our knowledge. Meanwhile biology and medicine is destined to always fight each other. Religion is undead. Not really alive, but not really dead. Palpable existential questions like why are we here? Why do we exist? What are we doing with our lives? They are left unaswered and not even sought after. The whole world is in a wait and see mindset. Hesitancy with every step.

I find it interesting that we live in a time where people who explain how things are are self important. I am not saying Fareed is not a top notch mind I am just saying that we need solutions which are applicable to todays problems. The “why” matters little to me now. Humans are a deplorable self serving species. But I do not fault us for this, I just accept this fact. And to be blunt, professors are useless, all they are really good at is riding the wave of popularity of the peer system and feeding off the adulation of the students. Sound familiar? In the end ivory tower academics do little to solve problems except to skim the cream as they point out the obvious. Have you ever noticed that people are fine sitting on the sidelines commenting on how the house is burning down around them but won’t pick up a bucket to throw water on said fire because it is beneath them?
