Pretty cool to see Solemn in here. Kinda surprised Stunverse wasn't shown here since he's been a talking point among the VG community. Hope to see more of these with some of the other content creators. A Farfa + DifferentFight team up would be dope. EDIT: Also here's some context for people reading these cards and wondering how they work. - Rearguard Circle = Main Monster Zone. Call = Summon. You can Normal/Special Summon to these zones as many times as you can during your turn. You can also Summon a monster onto a zone already occupied by another monster (the occupying monster is destroyed by game mechanics and replaced). Lock a unit = Turn that monster face down. During the owner's End Phase, flip that monster into Face-Up Attack Position. Bind = Banish Face Up Prison = Bind but you can pay a tax to Special Summon the monster at the beginning of your turn. In a separate Zone from the Bind Zone. Soul = Xyz Material that only your has. Order = Spell card. But you can only use one per turn. Think of them as Supporters from Pokemon. G-Zone = Extra Deck. Cards Face up in the G-Zone can't be re-summoned (think of them as Nomi-Pendulum monsters). And that's the gist of it without explaining the actual rules of the game (riding, attacking/defending, etc) though I'm more than happy to answer some questions people have. Vanguard kind of plays like some older YGO formats where the early turns are slow with players not putting much on the board, then popping off after each player's third turn by literally throwing haymakers at each other back and forth. Think of it as a one-on-one shonen fight, complete with power ups and transformations.

And adding to lock is that it cannot be targeted for attacks. Also it is unaffected by anything unless the effect flips it up.

For context, Counterblast is a resource you obtain each time you take damage, you lose when you take 6 damage, meaning you on average have 5 counterblast to work with per game. Because you can only have 5 CB total for the entire game (not taking into account effects that could refresh this resource) you have to carefully think about how many cards that spend Counterblast you can afford to run in your deck. A card might have a very broken effect but if the Counterblast cost is stupidly high it is not going to see any play. The book that draws 3 cards is the perfect example of that, it only saw play when you can ignore the cost.

Additional context for yugioh players as to why the cards shown were good or bad: Unfading Ship, Immortal Galleon: it is a GB8, meaning you need at least 8 face up extra deck monsters to use this card, realistically meaning you will only see this card around turn 5-7. For how late game the card is, the pay off isn't stellar, other cards in the archetype that can revive 5. Light Elemental Honoly: CB is a resource you get whenever you take damage, that is used as payment for alot of powerful effects. Since you die when you have taken 6 damage or more, you usually only have about 5cb to sepend throughout the game. Against multiattack decks, this card is practically a death sentence, since they have to burn through that precious resource just ti get their win con. But if there aren't multi attack decks in the format, this is just a monster with underwhelming stats that takes away your resources when summoned Chronovisor Heritage: As Solemn said, this card used to be good but has now been powercrept. The activation condition of this card, recurring 4 extra deck cards, can only really be used around turn 4-5, making it an end game closer. Back in 2018, games lasted long enough that you would realistically get to that point. Nowadays because the game is faster and the archetype this card belongs to hasn't recieved any support, the card has lost its shine. Choco Love Heart Liselotte: Really good card. Grades are Vanguards equivalent of a mana system, with them roughly corresponding to which turn you can play them. Early gaming plussing is pretty rare in the game as well. This card can cheat itself onto the board on turn 1, has standard grade 2 stats making it way more powerful than the grade 1 cards it will be facing again, and gives you a +1 to field. This card ia nutty. Ingenius tactics, book of strong arming: As mentioned previously, cb is a precious resource which decks try to use sparing. And this card asks for 3/5 of them along with detaching 3 soul (similar to overlay units for your character unit). This card is just very overcosted. Rain element Zarzan: Solemn explained it best. Alot of main deck card have powerful effects locked behind the how many extra deck cards you used, and this card turns them all on 2 to 3 turns early. Easily one of the most busted cards ever released. Evil God Pontiff, Gastille Demonas: This is a Tyrant Neptune/SK starving venom, that can copies 2 effects instead of 1 and can copy effects straight from the deck instead of field and graveyard. Eradicator, Vowing Saber Dragon Reverse: I will need someone else to explain this for me since I don't know enough about this card. Zeroth Dragon of Death Garden, Zoa: this card was part of a series of turn 4/5 boss cards that help you immediately end the game but banishes your entire extra deck if you fail to do so. 99,999 is an attack number that players can't normally just guard, but since every deck has 4 copies of "Negate Attack", this card was very skill dependent when it first got released. It saw a resurgence for a while, when Vanguard released cards that prevent the opponent from using "Negate Attack" on battle. But nowadays it is too slow and there are more consistent win cons. Aurora Fierce Princess Seraph Purelight: Basically Imagine a boss monster that not only Trishula's your opponent twice, but also has the effect all your monsters gain 500 atk for each card face up in the banish zone, and if your opponent has 10 or more cards banished, they all get the effect to deal double battle damage. ...yeah this card is a really insane boss monster
@f1r3hunt3rz5 Жыл бұрын
Thanks bro, appreciate the explanation
@CassiopeiaOnYT6 ай бұрын
Vowing Saber Dragon Reverse: In V format that this card is printed for, this card is rather piece reliant. Trishula like effect is nice, but it is far from enough to proc the second effect of it's skill enough times to create a threatening board, which means it needs support from other cards to help it snowball, and most of the available card pool there only puts cards to bind 1 at a time with resource costs, thus it makes it easily lose steam the longer the game goes, on top of the restanding skill needing resources to do so itself. Also, the power up effect only works on normal units, which means that opponent can choose to bind trigger units or orders if given the choice, and the power up skill will not proc at all. In Premium format though (basically eternal format), this card is a hell lot better since larger availability of card pool makes it a lot easier to rack up cards into the bind zone, plus there is a certain card called Conquering Supreme Dragon, Stunverse Dragon, which effortlessly can put up to 10 cards straight from your opponent's drop, field and hand straight to the bind zone (or even more on subsequent uses of the skill), making Vowing Saber a hell lot beefier. However, Stunverse Dragon has since been limited to 1, but it still sees use till this day.

Vanguard also uses keywords and icons, which do take a bit of time to learn, but they save up a metric ton of space in the text boxes so you can actually see the picture. Granted, in some cases like the Vowing Saber Reverse the text still takes up the whole card because it is a weird effect that takes a lot to explain, but in general it does help a lot to make cards easier to read once you learn what a few symbols mean.

@acetraker19882 жыл бұрын
I think the general reason why Vanguard is there is far less options in specific formats. E.g. YGO has the "you can put any card ever printed in your deck." While many won't fit or are trash, the are lots of YGO archetypes. Where Vanguard, has specific named that are designed ground up to function in a specific way. More so than, YGO cards, as Konami loves to profit with generic cards and powerful engines. TLDR: So, Vanguard is basically if YGO Archetypes where more cohesive, an thus in specific formats they can be dominant. Without running into stupid busted engines + generic cards that plague YGO formats.

A bit of explanation here kek: 1. Remember that 10k is not as big anymore, since its equivalent to like 1000 to 1500 atk buff, and even if you revive 5 cards from your grave, usually these cards are not useful, especially with only 3 attacks you can do, and only 2 that you revived can attack. (Edit: Also keep in mind, this is GB8, meaning you need to have used 7 Extra Deck cards already, which usually will take 6-10 turns due to limitations of the ED.) 2. Attacking more than 4 times is possible cus sometimes rulings give effects that let you attack, and attacking a lot that will potentially always hit is broken, hence this bunny can do a lot. 3. Its cost is reversed from usual, but it essentially is similar to needing 4 face-up Fusion Pends from your Extra Deck and Reset them. Getting an extra turn is always powerful, but its, as mentioned, powercrept and is considered too slow to use. Combined by the fact that its required cards are pretty powercrept as well. 4. Even tho she's a HOPT topdeck call or Soul-Charge, considering that she can do so in an early turn is broken, combined by the fact that the deck that she belongs to is broken as well. (Why early turn is broken? Well not much resources are out when its still too early, so ye.) 5. Yep, as stated, the cost is too heavy to be viable. And its grade makes it a garnet till turn 3. However, the cost problem is allevated, cus... ye. (Looking at you Zorga.) 6. This card is broken. Theres no such things as interruptions in Vanguard, and this thing will always be broken. Enables multi-attacking, broken synergy of plusing and continous power gain... ye. 7. The second effect is so broken. Its essentially a Starving Venom or Tyrant Neptune, except it can copy 2 effects at the same time. And a lot of cards that fulfill its criteria are broken, since they all meet its conditions. AND IT SEARCHES THE DECK TOO. 8. Ye this is pretty powerful... in Premium. Its pretty complicated, so i don't wanna delve into it yet. 9. BAAAAAAD. Very slow, but you can use it if you want to risk it. 10. In her format, she's considered to be very good. Flipping cards in the G Zone is similar to flipping A Fusion Pend face-up, hence making it impossible to Fusion Summon, btw.

Also I learned that one of my locals does vanguard on Saturdays so I might start going there but I wont have Saturday off work until November probably.

@@shadowX50 a very fun trial deck that are about to be dropped is youthberk starter, the strategy of this deck is drawing a lot of "revolform" grade 3 and do a lot of big attacks with it, and with the support he will recieve in d-bt06 will be a really strong deck! have fun

Seems pretty inexpensive. Good luck finding an lgs that sells it though.

Yeah now that you mention it he's obsessed with BA but their playstyle doesn't strike me as very similar.

@VideoGaku1232 жыл бұрын
Premium progression would be weird, man. Early Vanguard was a wild west of bad ideas. Just look at like, Tetra-drive's second effect, CB for +2k to one unit is fuckin somethin.

Could just be V or Standard progression instead of Premoum

vanguard looks like fun. is it closer to ygo or magic? the effects and numbers make it seem like it's fast or even faster than yugioh, so I am interested, but the grade thing makes me think its slow like magic where you need to pool lands for 4 turns before the fun begins.
@xenontynnos88882 жыл бұрын
Vanguard is actually a little slower than yugioh, where in a game things don't kick of until the 5th turn(The 1st player's 3rd turn). And sometimes games can last up to 12 turns.

It's probably the closest an anime based card game has come to making you feel like you're in a shonen anime battle. Both players start off slow in the early turns, then throw off the training weights and fling kamehamehas at each other.
@NAAAAAIL2 жыл бұрын
@@ObeliskTGS i like yugioh bc there's no build up it's just all gas right out of the gate lol
@iBloodxHunter2 жыл бұрын
Closer to neither, it's whacky. The "grade" thing is basically you just Xyz summon during your standby phase. One thing though, imagine if archetypes weren't just a playstyle. Imagine if archetypes had entire monopolies on game mechanics. Also, MTG has been in a power spiral for several years. Notice how Konami has been shying away from Zoodiac power level decks a little bit recently? WotC has been doing the opposite, Hasbro has been demanding money so they put the game through power spikes in order to get that money.
