What are the fastest cars to brave the mountain passes of Japan in real life? Today we find out! - Top 10 Fastest Cars on the Touge
I really enjoyed making a video on the Story of Time Attack and Under Suzuki ( • The Story of Time Atta... ) and the supportive comments it received got me thinking of what else I could look at - so this time I wanted to move away from the track and look the fastest cars for carving mountain roads, or touges as they're known in Japan.
This form of illegal racing was highlighted in the anime/manga Initial D. I really enjoyed the show, but it always made me wonder which car really would be the fastest in real life. Best Motoring's Hot Version has given us some great insight into what makes a Touge Monster of the years (or Maou as the called the top dog) and this list represents the research (binge watching) I did on their videos to try to compare the fastest sector times. There are still a lot of what ifs and cars that haven't had a chance or didn't want to risk it, but I found it really interesting what cars excelled on the winding downhill roads. I hope you enjoy the video half as much as I enjoyed making it, thanks for watching!

Great video, great cars. But the Seeker FD2 has to be one of the most special cars on the touge simply because they took the hated FF and menaced all but 5 faster cars. The kind of balance you need to build into a FF chassis to be faster than so many MR and FR cars is a next level of work.

Thanks! And I agree - the info to make this list is taken from a small sample size and a very short sector from a single touge. Maybe one day it would be interesting to look at a different touge of sorts that is equally well documented, like Pikes Peak or something...

As an MR-S owner, I'm really happy seeing one be so dominant on the touge. Yes the car factory is underpowered, but even so it is too damn fun. I would highly suggest buying one, just make sure the precats are either dealt with already, or they haven't started killing the engine when you buy it. It's the only issue they really have, as even stock, I've oversteered once, that was in the rain, and on purpose until my lack of experience caused it to snap back. Still saved it tho. Crazy fun little cars.

Loving your channel & the videos you've been making. I'm thankful you seem to care about giving the culture & individuals involved the credit they deserve. I'm even more thankful you didn't botch the videos as many non Japanese and or non-die hard JDM enthusiasts have done in the past. As your first 2 videos cover 4 of the most important subjects in my adult life: Tsukuba circuit, time attack, touge, & hot version at first i was just thankful that you did these subjects justice with detailed and accurate information & the passion of a true enthusiast. Now watching both videos back to back I'm very impressed & thankful for what you are doing, putting information that took me years to obtain downsized into 2 short videos while still being detailed and capturing the spirit of time attack & touge w/ short clips from numerous videos to tell the stories well. Making consumable sized videos of historically challenging to attain longer video in a manner that will hopefully help form the next generation of JDM tuner enthusiast & keep the culture & industry alive & well for as many years as possible

5:20 well the brake issue that he was talking about could’ve been fixed with either a longer or a wider set of brake hoses for the rear. The added overall volume would have taken a slight portion of the pressure away from the rear. Enough for the fraction of a second that he was talking about.
@DocDucky

Dude. Ive never even though of the length/ diameter of brake lines. That makes sense, if theres more fluid theres more adjustability/ delay from braking force and if theres less then its snappier and more rapid.... interesting.
@Hipsters_N_Hippies
@Hipsters_N_Hippies 2 жыл бұрын
@@DocDucky yes, that plays a role. however It’s not only the amount of fluid. It’s also the expansion of the material holding it. More rubber = more expansion (the complete opposite idea of steel braided hoses)

@@Hipsters_N_Hippies shit i just learned something important. Ive been trying to figure out what brake setup imma use in my 88 a70 but now im definitely not only going to keep rotor/ caliper size in mind but the hoses and their material too.

@Hipsters_N_Hippies 2 жыл бұрын
@@DocDucky a larger brake caliper with a larger piston or multiple piston brake calipers also require a larger volume of liquid to move the same amount of distance. So they also had to make brake master cylinders that can move more fluid out. I could keep this conversation going for a while. And even show how to get more Whp and acceleration with certain brake modifications. Lol There is so much to it....well everything with a car. EVERYTHING has an equal and opposite reaction.

@@Hipsters_N_Hippies hell yeah especially since there's some brake setups that arent even oe or close. For example im doin the s500 4 piston brembos, with either a stock master cyl and 350z rotors. So that setups gonna be pretty odd especially since thats only the front.

Weirdly enough, the weight reduction on that 86 seems just as expensive as a turbo or supercharger. If those are carbon fiber doors, trunk and hood, those can be as much as 4 to 6k if you get them all in one purchase. But then again you can still maintain the reliability of your engine since it's untouched (except for the tune)

Most people misinterpret touge racing. The show BEST MOTORING only the glimpse of what is the real touge racing. The real touge is not that short touge racing are all about endurance, the balls to drive fast without caring about your life, control, handling, the advantage of lightweight cars and last is not spunning out your car. Imagine driving your car in those steep corners. That's why lightweight cars is an advantage in the touge. These statements are also based from D.K Keichi Tsuchiya himself, mentioned that he beat the crap out of those GTR, SILVIAS you name it and relevantly talk about the advantage of lightweight cars many times in the youtube channel called "CAR PRIME"

I’m not into this and i’ve never seen initial d even though i hear about it all the time, but man it’s awesome to hear my car and my dream car tied perfectly in the top 2, and to hear an s2k takes up two spots in the top 10 brings a smile to my face.

I wonder what sort of a time Takumi would run going all out 12k rpm in his 86. As shown in Initial D he has F1-esque precision and drives like a complete lunatic with zero concern for safety so I think he could run pretty damn fast.
