I think it's also important to mention that mukataba exists as well, so Islam even provides the salves (who were not known to be evil) the means to free themselves and it asks their masters to help them: "And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess - then make a contract with them if you know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you" [Surah Nur: 33] Another point I hear a lot is why didn't Islam free all slaves at once to end slavery instantly. The answer is quite simple, those slaves have no money no home no family. If all of them were kicked out instantly out of their masters' homes the only means for them to survive would be through theft and criminal acts. So subhana Allah, when Allah regulates something it's because he knows what's best for society.. And even though I used the term slaves throughout this comment (I did it using the same term people generally use to refer to them so that we're on the same page) I would like to mention the fact that islam is against calling them that,, it actually uses the term mulk yameen. Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: "None of you should say: My slave and my slave-girl, for all of you are the slaves of Allah, and all your women are the slave-girls of Allah; but say: My boy, my girl, and my lad and my young girl". [Sahih Muslim: 2249]. And to be honest I think anyone genuine that has knowledge about how mulk yameen were treated by muslims wouldn't dare call this slavery. Imagine buying them them the same clothes you buy yourself (so if you wear gucci then buy them gucci), or giving them the same food you're eating (if you eat cavier for breakfast then you need to feed them that),, this can't be slavery theyre basically treating them like their own children. And there are so many things that islam regulated regarding that I can go on and on, the more you learn the more you will realize it wasn't a slave system that islam was establishing rather then end goal is an eventual emancipation of all slaves. EDIT: And i forgot to mention this one last thing, we need to always keep in mind that those people (aka slaves) are prisoners of war who came to kill muslims, but in return Islam is asking muslims to treat them this nicely,, this is so mind blowing if you think about it, calling it slavery after knowing all this would be simply crazy..
