Update 18 | Sons of The Forest

In this video of Sons of The Forest, I show you what update 18 contains (small update). It brings skunks into the game, rabbit hutches, rabbit breeding, and I provide a guide on how to breed rabbits.

The game needs some kind of side quests to do to take advantage of how big the island is, it still really empty . Maybe they could add events like searching for the pilots of the choppers, asking for supplies with flares to the chopper that travels the island, rescuing workers or civilians, an event which gets companions kidnapped.Things llike that...

That's a pretty good idea. I addition... I would give the option to befriend one od the tribes. Not for free of course, but by earning their respect somehow, perhaps helping them in some way? After that, we could be charged by some tasks contributing to the tribe and after a while, maybe get promoted to the leader? Tasks like defending the tribe, or gather the resources, find the lost tribe members and so one... That would give some purpose

Virginia makes the same "you smell" animation as Kelvin. Agree though, it should do more than just a two second screen darkening. Anyone remember 7D2D's smell system that they swear (for four years now) that they're going to re-implement? Would love to see something like that. Carrying meat on attracts regular cannibals to you; getting sprayed by a skunk attracts muddy cannibals to you! Could be a cool system, if not a pain to actually code & implement...... I'm like 75% certain I've had an eagle steal a fish off of my drying rack. I think. If anything else, the scarecrow is good for roleplaying. As for the moose/deer avoidance, I'm not sure really what this means, but it seems to me that ever since the update, moose are far more likely to run away from me than charge at me. This could just be a coincidence on my end, though. Hell if I know what that means for deer since they always run.... Maybe they just share a base AI script or something. I dunno about anyone else, but the shotgun ammo cycling bug was hitting me HARD so that's one update I'm super-grateful for.

I feel like moose should have a higher probability to charge, considering they're deadly territorial animals. Or maybe have it specific to seasons like how cows are more aggressive in spring and summer, and bulls in fall... but then again there isn't a cow version of the moose.

The spray should have some effect on how the cannibals react to you. Maybe it makes you blend in more? Or makes you easier to find for a certain amount of time.

for the duping issue at 5:00 this was something i experienced and it was out on the first day of full release. it had to do with the shelves where you could dupes items,mainly bullet guns. i did abuse this and got 500 of each bullets on the first time. this did get fixed

When I made a base on the coast (around the fishing village with the cave) seagulls would constantly swarm and get stuck in the houses and it would get very fucking loud after a while so I appreciate the scarecrow actually doing something now.

I wish they had a system where fans could make suggestions and the highest voted ones got considered. I have an idea for them to add coyotes, they could like stalk the player and try to steal from their traps or when they kill something and only attack when cornered.

the guy with the flare standing up came with the 1.0 update but i only saw it in a single location, everyone else was just doing the one we knew, also the dupe glitch was very string, in my save i turned 11 pistol rounds into 900 in about 20 minutes

i really enjoyed the game, has a neat base building mechanic, interesting " dungeon" system, the lore told by player interpretations and over all the world and enviroment, is great and a thing one appretiate a lot, is like the Souls like, to say it in some way, and still they tell you the story without needing long ass voice recordings, or texts that need 6 pages to tell you "we opened a gate to hell" which is great to now slow down the gameplay. you just find a printed mail, saying " we saw them in this area, be careful" and you inmediately know, there is something interesting, is neat that they add small things to do for the post game stuffs. i will surely get the forest 3 when released.

As an owner of 13 rabbits, one of my favorite games adding rabbit hutches is very cool. But they would chew through those branches hutches very fast as they are land beavers. Still, a cool Idea.

Moose have gotta be made aggressive, I live in Montana in the states and they are not friendly animals if you get too close. It would just be an interesting change to have an aggressive animal that isn’t either underwater or a humanoid ish thing

They do actively try to run you over in-game, it hurts and you get knocked to the ground. It's not always but they usually go for you once or twice and then run off.

The duping issue was kind of broken. You’d be able to put ammo down in a stack and then the second stack just put one down and it’ll send 5 to the first stack. I was curious when I heard about this and I did it with ammo annnnd I think I made around 2000 rounds of pistol

worth noting that when you land in the glider it drops it to the floor and doesn't automatically pick it back up, maybe this is why yours are missing?

They should focus on getting it out for XSX|S! I bet Microsoftwould jump at the opportunity and be interested in supporting it through Insider with testing and feedback (GP?). It was a joy to be a part of Grounded's journey and how well Obsidian listened and communicated through there. So a XSX|S lquncy could mean injection of funds AND a collaborative Public Test platform that can only mean positive things overall for the devs, console development and testing, monys, etc ;). With the same controls and settings as on PC, no alterations necessary. Full Mouse and Keyboard, Quality/Performance (60+ fps) modes. Not that I think devs care about how console versions are received and just want to FnF dump a stable veaion for the easy money but seeing as last Forest ran like shite to the point of ruining a portion of your enjoyment it would be sweet to try a Forest with some basic love put into it. That is to say, unless Sony hasn't already stricken some bs deal to keep an interesting game from gamers that just love games and don't care about how exclusive they are to their platform. Nor condone that. Rambling and Ranting a bit. Nonetheless, facts and hope remain. 🍻

I bet the deer avoidance is when you're driving because they would often just stand there or walk in front of the carts. (Kind of similar to real deer lol) but it is annoying running down deer all the time in the golf carts. Maybe they'll move now.

With the fish part: I can't keep a fish on my drying racks to save my life. I'm assuming the eagles are taking them, but I have no idea because I haven't sat there and watched them. I just stopped using fish for food because it was pointless. Maybe Virginia is taking them all? But I had a full drying rack and when I went to go grab some to eat, I had 1 left. Another time I had 2 on there and when I went to go get them, I had none. Regular meat is completely fine, nothing happens with those, ever. Maybe a bug, maybe an eagle, maybe Virginia, but fish are pointless in my game lol.

i sealed a drying rack in a 1 cube room and i have eagles flying through the room all day to steal the fish but it never loses any, before i hung fish up i didnt see a single eagle in the game. put your dry rack in a room with the door closed, problem solved

Games just need to stop adding binoculars until they know it'll work. The same thing happened to Minecraft, they added the spyglass. It can zoom in on blocks just fine but any entity would become invisible at a certain distance.

Still weird that the flare dudes just drop dead from seemingly nothing when you get close to them. Should be like a spear or arrow from a cannibal, or maybe just a cannibal hiding by him and killing him when you get close.

This was one of the biggest disappointments for me after the 1.0 release trailer. Seeing the soldier and making people think it was a rescue mission or something. But no, dozens of live soldiers who die as soon as you get close. They should've just made them dead bodies with a flare, absolutely no need to waste time animating their deaths.

Seems like the dry rack is bugged. I can't get it to dry meat. Apart from that, I'd like dangerous predators added to the game, like bear. I also think it'd be cool to add a Sasquatch. That could be a very rare but very dangerous encounter. Anyhow, i know that will never happen. Its an awesome game.

Is the drying rack inside a structure? I had mine indoors and things weren't drying over the course of multiple game days, but when I moved it outside things dried in normal time. Not very realistic I suppose, but I think this does show that it depends where you put the rack. (I even heard if you put it near a fire things dry quicker, but this might be a myth.)
