When I was in the USN our berthing compartment had two hatches to get into/out of on either side with ladders. I would go up and down the hatch and ladder like 30 times a day just as a matter of course. One day the night check (we worked two 12 hour shifts at sea) shut one of the hatches to paint and do maintenance. I headed to the ladder and was looking in my shaving kit while I was taking the ladder two steps at time not looking up. I ran straight into the steel hatch at speed. When I came to there were guys everywhere around me and I was covered in blood. I looked just like you did! Except I knocked myself unconscious and had a bunch of other cuts from the fall. Ended up with 4 staples and 12 stitches from my hairline down to the top of my nose. The remarkable thing was it didn't scar like they all kept telling me it would. You can see a slight jagged line but for the most part it just looks like I frown too much and it caused a crease from age. But head wounds bleed like hell. The poor bastard that found me said he thought I had been shot!

my buddy who used to go to the gym with me had just gotten off of work one evening (he worked at a hog farm) and he didn’t shower before coming to the gym… woof. talk about stinking it up while lifting weights. hog poop is no joke 😭😂 glad your head is okay

Still doing things the old ways, we use robots to sort our hog, the microchip tells the robot which pig is ready. then we have a belt escalator that takes everyone right to the truck, no problem loading, stop, turn around the belt keeps moving them forwards, piggy turns around and goes back, belt keeps moving them forwards. 2 great new tools we added back in 2020.

We have barns where the chutes are inclined waaaaaaaay up there. Mountain climbing pigs. Have one of those market pigs turn on you in the chute and come flying down the chute and hit you in the knees. Hyper extend your knee and have it bending the wrong way. Had 2 guys have it happen to them. That's a definite ER run. Loading hogs can definitely be a workout.

I went to the vet when I had a good cut in my head, 9 metal stitches and 10 minutes later I was out again, much faster than the ER. oh, and you don't need anesthesia on your head. Ha, when my belt has to go on the last hole, I just make a few more, then it doesn't look that bad

Sawyer, glad the bump on noggin wasn't too serious. Maybe it's time to put some pieces of pool noodles on this boxes. Don't want to do a repeat!! Hey a question, do you guys get an average weight on the hogs from where they go? It would interesting to know how big they are. They looked great; clean, healthy and happy.

Sawyer- you mentioned now that the hogs are gone, next up is pressure washing. What type of pressure washer do you use? I assume you’re not running a gas engine in the building due to fumes. Do they make power washing systems which allow you to connect your hose/wand into an overhead line at various locations throughout the building (sort of like air lines). Thanks!

Feed hoppers are a little harder than your head. I bet you did see some stars with that hit. The best part you were in a sanitary environment. Not out in the city where it is very unsanitary. A little chewing tobacco juice and a shot of the Captain and all will be well. 😂🤪😊

Was all the proper paperwork filed with the TDF safety department after Sawyers head and back injuries. Safety department is probably losing their minds with two recordable in onw week. I can see all kinds of over reactions coming. Sawyer has at least an hour of classroom training on hog barn hazard awareness and I am sure junior team members will have to wear football helmets in the hog barn. On the upside we know if Sawyer gets injured the video gets a lot of views.

I'm curious about your experience with the healthcare system. Like, did you have to wait for hours at the ER, was this at a hospital some other situation? Did you get any surprised bills from out of network doctors or any surprise billing(you probably don't know this yet, it takes a while for the bills and paperwork to start rolling in). Maybe you just paid out of pocket to avoid the health insurance paperwork nightmare. I wonder about these thing because the first think I think about when thinking about getting health care is cost and do I really really need to access this health care system that is so bad Doctors and providers are quitting in numbers, private equity firms or buying up medical practices and health insurance is doing what they can to deny paying/coverage.

Sad about the mishap. Just have some help with checking your cognitive skills. There is no such thing as an accident. I was raised on a 1400 acre Michigan farm raising 600 hogs at a time in the 40s, 50s and 60s. My grandfather didn't allow mishaps of any kind. He preached safety all the time. My father did too. Eaglegards...
