I love the 3588 IH we had on the farm I worked on in the '80s. We called it the bronto because it looked like a brontosaurs lumbering thru the field.

When the new Holland PTO keeps spinning you need to change the fluids to fix that and for the type of planning that your dad wants to do use a three point broadcasting spreader Cheap and I will do the job even an old lime spreader

Ron , operated a 2+2 when they first came out. Did not like the steering. Give me a 4440 or a 1086 and those are my favorites.

We had a Binder actuated like that, we called it the Colonial Viper. Was a bucking bull hauling liquid poop. The hinge pins were wore, getting rid of it was cheaper than fixing it.

I think you are ok on the blade. Compared to new price. Had to laugh when you were talking about the flutes on the drills. Those sold a lot closer to the prices I was thinking. I sold a 20 foot 5100 this spring for 4500 and thought I got good money but right now I don’t think 7500 is out of line. When you are looking at those older drills like that take the row units and swing them side to side. They have bushings on the front of them and they get worn out and don’t track well. Big pain in the rear end to change those. I have a lot of fun following auctions. Around here if you raise your hand and make a cut motion it means you will go half of the bid. Ie.500 becomes 250. I wonder if they do that back there? Good interesting video.

First, there's a town in Oregon, has strawberry festival, a parade, and the world's largest shortcake. Second, Budman w/cookie duster......third, Ron, with a year's head start on hunting beard, that he said last hunting season was grown seasonally. And thanks for J D update and a small glimpse of your job. Last that back blade will make short work of your concrete driveway. No more shovel.

On the caseih drill, we took the grass seed hoses off and just let it fall as we would get it plug down at the end so it wasn’t seeding. I might be wrong but usually the fine seed box is on the front and the ones on the back were for your coarser grass seed.

John Deere is a better drill. You can see the seed coming through the metor on a JD. The hole opener assembly is built better on a deere and visibility to watch openers is better and the hitch is stronger and some are built to fold up. I have done thousands of acres, never go red drill.

Ron, I would think that you would know that you can't look at prices from 2 years ago for any factor to used equipment today. Progressive Farmer and a multitude of other farm magazines have been filled with the effect of the economy (inflation) and Covid on all equipment. Frankly, compare the price of new drills against the ones you looked at. Farmers have to look at the used market to put their equipment dollars in order to make a living next year and maybe 2-3 years beyond.

Rule number one about buying at auctions,,,,, never ever, ever, ever start the bidding. And like you said, hold back and see if they will split down. They usually will but listening to those cats seek that high boy, they didn’t seem inclined to do it.
