LOL, just let one guy do the video, they have different opinions of how much info to give at each stage. I found this interesting and I learned about corn above and below ground. Something was snapping my one collar corn off at soil level, I went in there today and 'jugged' the smallest ones for some protection. It's a small patch, I was only experimenting with the new Astronomy Dominie corn. Thanks guys

Maybe have your script planned out before starting to film so you don't argue on camera...or maybe do more than one take. It's really distracting and makes it hard to follow the narrative.

Great presentation. Two knowledgeable grower talking with passion. Your the professionals so I tend to believe you, but I have just been looking at some packets of sweet corn seeds and the planting depth recommended is half an inch as opposed to the two inches you recommend. Any idea why that might be? HGV

@bobbun9630
@bobbun9630 2 жыл бұрын
Really old post, but unanswered so I'll give it a go anyway. Dent corn like what's in the video is starchy rather than sweet and not usually eaten fresh. Certainly once it dries out it's too hard for people to eat fresh. It is used for cornmeal, corn syrup, hominy, tortillas, corn chips, etc., though most corn in the US is grown for other purposes. Just like most grains, it needs to be processed in some way for it to be useful for human consumption. I do grow field corn in my garden, but I grow interesting colored varieties instead of plain yellow commercial corn. Those are just as edible, but more interesting if you're not trying (like a commercial farming operation) to squeeze out every last penny of profit. Perhaps surprisingly, if you grow different types each season (it's best not to mix crops by planting multiple varieties at the same time), you will find that different field corns don't all taste exactly the same.
