Josh Pond in Whiting, Maine, handpicks 2,000 pounds of blueberries a day and packs 30,000 pounds per season. Every day during harvest season, from mid-August to mid-September, the berries are gently raked by hand to preserve their natural form. After the berries are lifted off their bushes, they are packed and frozen within 24 hours of leaving the field, ensuring high-quality flavor and peak nutrition.

You take them. Too slow to pick by hand. Also, they might fall to the ground. You are trying to take as many as possible to make more money. The more boxes you fill the more pay you make. Seasonal field work. Very hard work and you can't fill your rake too full or you will smash the berries. You take in long narrow rows.

@@imtired6614 "The only reason why it’s not is because they want to maintain safety precautions for their consumers." LOL Please. If it was 100% safe to touch the blueberries with hands, they would STILL do it this way. Its faster and more efficient. This is "handpicked" by a stretch of the imagination. Larger machinery would damage the bushes, thats why its done this way, otherwise theyd be using even bigger and more efficient machines.

Until robots are invented to pick blueberries and other crops, USA should allow people form poorer countries to pick the crops with a visa. Provide those people with shelter dorm and food free of cost. Then you can Pay them below minimum wage so the price of the berries still stay low. Then after the season is over, those people return to their home countries with a lot of money because the value of the dollar is worth more in their countries.

I picked blueberries in Oregon during the summers in the 90s. I would’ve gotten fired for using that tool. It completely strips the bush. The whole point of handpicking was so that we only picked that which was ripe and left behind the clusters that were still red or green for later pickings.

great for "farmed" berries. I live in Alaska and those groom pickers are bad news for wild plants.

Can you make a video of animal control? You know there are bears and deer and all types of critters taking their yield. How do they prevent it?
