He likely never got many treats with the Amish. Cut up the apple to get the fragrance out. Put a few carrots in his grain. Your love language is acts of service and giving them treats shows that. But if he doesn’t want them then his love language may be you just spending time with him. Any language is ok. Especially the way you speak with him. I think his last owner wasn’t Amish. It’s your tone of voice that matters.

Even if Roman did only know, Amish or German, he will still learn your commands in our language. It’s silly to think that he’ll never understand English. He will eventually realize your request with the words that you give them. It’s like when someone adopts a dog, they don’t always keep the name of the dog that the shelter or previous owner had. The dog learns its new name. Repetition and consistency are all Roman needs and he’ll get that from you guys with whatever language you use on him. Congrats Lester and Jami. You guys have got a wonderful boy by the looks of it. You’re doing great with him and Rita and everyone else. First and foremost, you guys love your animals.

I totally get it, Lester. When you try to help someone out by hiring them to do a job that you think they ought to be able to handle, you expect it to be done right. Whomever put those staples in either didn't understand how to do it so it looks right or found it more difficult to get them to go in the boards correctly than they expected. That person might have other things that he or she can do for you, but that isn't one of them.

Lester get on top of that fence jump on that horse and go for a ride wow your lucky man to have a Horse to ride When I was a teenager we used to go down to a field that they used to call the horse field didn't know the people just A short cut to go to town And we would get up on the fence jump on the horse go for a ride the only problem was sometimes a horse would run underneath the tree and knock you off at the branches and if you're lucky there wasn't a big pond of horse poop Been there before on my uncle's horse and it had a saddle but it turned really fast and I went flying off into a big soupy pile of horse poop and cow poop

Lester you’re doing a great job with Roman. He’s understanding what you’re saying. I’ve been around many Amish people and they use both Dutch/ German and English. So I’m sure he understands most of what you’re saying. Plus the last owner probably used English ( not sure because I don’t think it was said if he was Amish or English). Either way he will understand what you want. It appears as if Rita understands you and Jami. She appears bi-lingual. 😅 Now as far as the bales of hay goes. I’d place pallets under them so that you could use the tractor to move them. I’d put a room on one corner of the new barn to use for feed, tack, and supplies needed for the horses. Heck you might need a larger area to store the round rolls of horse hay in. Both of you all enjoy spending time with Roman and please don’t let the negative comments bother you. We know that you have a heart of gold and love all those beautiful babies. ❤❤

What I can't understand is why some people can't let you be you! You do have every right to talk to Roman in whatever language you please. And I totally get how you talk to him, because I talk the same way sometimes. I would even talk that way sometimes around my parents, and what do I hear from my mother? Speak right! I have always accepted you for you and always will 😊 And trust me, if I lived closer, I would gladly help you with any chores. Even putting up cattle paneling the right way. And if I made a mistake doing it, I would own up to it. I pride myself on trying to do whatever needs done everyday, the best way I know how. And if I don't know how, I will ask for help.
