When my Lamancha was 2 months old she got her back leg stuck and it too ended up falling off! She is almost a year old now and she acts like a normal goat, runs, jumps and does goat flippies. I too was worried about her being bullied, but she is pretty high on the totem pole. If your goat goes back to trying to walk on her stump get her some dog shoes. It will protect it while it heals. Good luck with your sweet goat!

Thanks for not giving up her with all she went through all ready and letting her stay on your farm! I know they are farm animals and not pets so it's hard for use normal people to understand putting down a animal like that is just what has to happen.

I had an employer who had fainting goats; one year the kids were born way too early it was still frozen here, and because of the cold and them being early their hooves ended up falling off for some reason. Always confused me how it could happen but this sort of makes it easier to understand

How can a goat be trapped starving and no water for days and nobody notice from the people you had covering for you? That’s ridiculous and somebody is to blame, more responsibility and accountability when you have living animals

Oh no that’s terrible, so glad she’s doing okay. I also have a goat with a broken leg. My vet told me to put him down but I decided to cast it and see if it heals, and he walks on it almost normal now. I didn’t wanna sell him with his broken leg not knowing how he’s doing. So I decided to weather him and keep him. So I guess he’s my little pet goat, living his best life.

Wow, that's an unfortunate situation, but it could have turned out way worse. Despite how awful it was, finding her too late would have been heartbreaking. Keeping her despite not being able to breed her again shows that you truly care for your animals, not just treat them as farm factory workers, so kudos to you! Even though you aren't able to breed her again, you could still milk her, so she wouldn't be completely 'lost revenue'. Perhaps that may be a good option to consider? I don't know if you are interested or set up to milk, but it could be a great opportunity for you to make the best of a bad situation. You may make a lot of good connections when selling your kids who may be interested in the milk aspect as well. Just a thought, networking is important! It's is also very mature of you to consider it from a business perspective, too. As a farmer, you HAVE to consider the financial implications of your operation, otherwise before too long you'll be belly-up like too many small farms have gone over the years. You seem very level-headed, especially for your age. I hope your parents are very proud of you! -Dusty

Also, I'm really surprised that they weren't concerned about keeping it clean, or worried about infection. Is it already closed up, so there's no need to try to bandage it somehow? Not that a goat would ever leave a bandage alone, but still. Did they suggest antibiotics or anything? Maybe an antibiotic spray?
@EvelynsFarmDiaries
@EvelynsFarmDiaries 4 ай бұрын
I could milk her but I unfortunately don't have the set up for it right now. And then I would only get milk from her for a few months because she would dry up and then to get more from her I'd have to breed her again. It's a good idea but I don't think it'll work in this situation. I was definitely concerned about infection and thought we would need to wrap it. For some reason, they turned the idea down. They did give me a spray for her instead.
