Farmers will be ignored unless they take drastic action. They need to take a leaf out of the French farmers lexicon. So block roads, dump sewage into Downing Street, block ports and stop sending food to supermarkets. Historically the British farmers do nothing - so a culture change is needed.

@@AvocadoAfficionado farmers in EU are absolutely miserable, they get 15-20 pence for product that sells for 20x that price at supermarkets down the road, ofc the rich corporational farmers in the UK wanted brexit, it meant they can keep a monopoly for themselves and keep getting paid more for their product, and its gonna get only worse because this new law only affects the poor majority of the farmers, not the majority of corporate farm firms.

When Starmer runs out the back door to avoid farmers and the rest of the Gov aren't listening then they have no choice but to go on strike, if the Gov won't talk or refuses point blank to make changes then they are left with no alternative, and people will have to get used to less food availability and higher prices, as that will be the direct result of the Gov's policy. So it's just giving people a taste of what to expect if the Gov carries on with this policy.

There is insufficient time for family family farms to plan for these changes. Farmers are typically asset rich but cash poor. The fact it affects 25% of farmers is already a huge proportion. Also we know that tax thresholds never increase with inflation, so called "fiscal drag" is used as a stealth tax.

So his argument is that farmers didn't have pensions or life insurance. Farmers didn't retire as it was more tax efficient to keep hold of the land until death but that has changed so they just have to change their behaviour to what is more tax efficient now. why they can't just be honest and say they want to protect their wealth at the expense of the rest of us. People like Dyson and Clarkson invested in land to avoid inheritance tax which is why the government have proposed the change to the IHT.

These are the same farmers that thought deleting their biggest market place was a great idea. Perhaps they should concentrate more on realising all the "opportunities" Brexiters keep talking about, than undermining their own government out of spite??

The UK economy, due to Brexit, is a big sh1t sandwich and now everyone has to take a bite. Why are farmers so very special? I didn't see them complain like this about the Lump Sum Exit Scheme, which could have the same effect (in fact it was designed to). I wonder why?
