The cathedral is breath taking, my daughter graduated from Lincoln this September and had her ceremony in there. She’s just started work for Claas UK

Hi Andrew a great mid week update, and you are really showing how a real farm works. I also hope pressure builds on the government on this terrible inheritance tax.

What a stunning cathedral Wardy and the bells sounded fantastic. It's years since I last visited Lincoln and I had forgotten what a lovely place it is.

Andy, I`, an ex steel worker, coal miner and factory manager and over the years the labour government has never done anything for a working man/person.!!!!
@glynluff259522 минут бұрын
As I recall it they Nationalised the mines and then closed a few! They nationwide the railways, sold the coal abroad and turned half the coal burners to oil to be told by the Treasury there was no money for oil so they turned the engines back to coal! They nationalised the road transport and found it had to be replaced and were unable to be able to transport anything economically even with new lorries. They were told by the Treasury the finance for the NHS would fail in ten years and it did. Successive governments have merely written larger cheques. Financially Labour have ideas but they have always failed through lack of practical financial knowledge but that statement does not exonerate other parties. Politics sound wonderful in front of the drawing room fire but so frequently fall flat on their face in the street. Less politics and smaller contemplated gains would probably do much more for this nation.

As a farmer myself it makes me cringe when farmers say the public should be grateful for what we do as looking at the public they really don’t care where there food comes from, and what we go through to produce it people sadly wouldn’t worry if all there food come from abroad apart from a small amount of people that do have an interest in food and insist on buying British. And sadly we don’t have a government that backs us. People are moaning about trump winning the election but at least he backs his own country.

Happily a number of MPs have signed a letter to Rachel Reeves today expressing their opposition to the inheritance tax changes. Among those signing are the wonderful Victoria Atkins, now Shadow Secretary for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and my MP Dr Caroline Johnson…
@robdavis571116 сағат бұрын
I should say it was the fantastic MP for Stamford and Rutland, Alicia Kearns (@aliciakearnsmp) who really properly understands the countryside who delivered the letter… Today (6th November) Alicia Kearns MP presented a joint letter to Number 10 Downing Street opposing Labour’s cuts to Agricultural Property Relief (APR). The letter was signed by over 100 MPs, industry bodies and farming experts, calling on the Government to rethink the new tax rules announced in the Autumn Budget. Inheritance Tax reliefs such as APR reduce the amount of tax farmers and landowners are required to pay when farmland is passed to the next generation after a death. New rules will mean an effective tax rate of 20% on agricultural assets valued at over £1 million, which could force thousands of farmers to sell their family farms to pay the Inheritance Tax bill. The Government has estimated the new £1 million threshold means three-quarters of farms will not be impacted by the change, however the NFU believes this is an underestimate and up to half of all working farms, possibly more, could be impacted by the new tax rules. Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said: “Labour’s tax on family farms is wrong, jeopardising generations of farming and threatening our food security. “Locally farmers are devastated, and now in fear they could be left with no choice but to sell their land, leaving our rural way of life at risk of takeover by big corporations and harming our national food security. “It is deeply disappoint ing our calls have been ignored so far, but I hope this letter will encourage the Government to think again.”

Good evening Andrew. That looked like a great harvest festival, Lincoln cathedral looks amazing, very impressive and your chat with the young farmers and the farmer outside just goes to show how upset everyone is? It is in my opinion just a land grab, pure and simple, the Dutch farmers suffer the same last year, the people in power want control of the land, it seems obvious to me they hate the fact that it’s ours and we have control of it and in turn control the food system. I do think the carbon tax on fertiliser coming in is very serious! Again yet another nail in the farming coffin. It’s going to be a winter of discontent. The wheat you’ve got in looks spot on, we’ve just finished planting here, bits and pieces of drizzle here in Cornwall too, but the forecast is for sunny weather next week, we’ve heard that all year 😂 Cheers 👍

Cracking update again Andrew. Wow the cathedral looks amazing mate beautiful building. I don’t understand why labour are coming after the farmers and it sounds like to me they don’t want them they would rather import everything it’s madness. I do feel the supermarkets have had a hand it all this so they can import cheaper food and sell it for more so they make more profits.

Great video as usual. Sugarbeet is a good break crop but it certainly has an impact on the following crop. You’d be drilled up with wheat weeks ago if you didn’t grow it.

Hi Andy, I reckon thw governments budget is to make land available for wind and solar farms as farmers will just sell up.

Great Video, Lincoln Cathedral looks amazing, inside and out. Regarding the budget there is no one better placed than yourself Andrew and other prominent KZbin personalities to get the message out there about how unfair this budget is. I believe the majority of the public do understand the asset rich cash poor argument. Basically We are custodians of the land, no farmer I know dwells on the worth of their farm, they’re only interested in passing it on to the next generation. And you’re dead right….. We are not valued!!!

Interesting to put the realities together. At least when Harold Wilson gave the miners another shilling, they made sure they had a good meal on the table butchers bought another bullock, everybody was happy, but no longer.

Trouble is with the pick up job is there is a lot of people near where I live, drive them and don’t need them so I’m guessing the government are going after them and farmers are getting hammered again.

Sadly Andrew I feel the government will take no notice of a demo in London. Road, fuel and retail blockades are needed which will produce a short, sharp shock to the government. If they won't listen then they'll have to be shown!
@neilbowness60745 сағат бұрын
All they want is big company’s and the likes of national trust to own the land and contract farming so that they can control what’s being grown and more accurately control the prices of what’s grown, those company’s no doubt owned by Labour cronies, buying up land as farmers are forced out of business, and as you said plenty of houses with pony paddocks for city people to buy, and all the while the small creeping increases of control have been largely ignored by the NFU, even small things like the registration of poultry creeping creeping control by the govt…..

You and many farmers are hedge cutting. Fieldfairs, Red Wings and our resident birds, rely on foraging for berries. There will be nothing for them to eat. Could you not leave hedge work till the new year? I wish you well with the stupid budget implications.

As we cut the hedges every year we only ‘twig’ them, 90% of the berries are still left.

Getting a bit old now all we keep hearing is about the budget we all know what was in the budget, it only effects the rich and the rich don't like it it seems
@jackiewatson378915 сағат бұрын
The rich are about the only people it doesn’t affect. Retirees buying a house in the country & a few acres for a million pounds won’t be affected where as genuine hard working family farms are being attacked on multiple fronts.
