I can't thank you enough for the video. I'm not able to make very many tractor pulls. I like the moderation during the video. I chuckle at the grief you give the J D guys 😂😂. I loved the video. Take care and I'll see you later.

I read so many posts about what strong tractors JD "R"s are and Saw those two about what a good FARMALL M would pull, which is about what Our R would pull. According to the Deere tech who tuned our R up, it would really grunt, but when we hooked our 3 bottom IH plow to it in our clay hills I was down in second gear and wondering if I shouldn't stop and shift into low. The Super M-TA with the Torque-Amplifier pulled the 4 bottom Deere plow the R couldn't pull. The SM-TA you could shift down going uphill and up-shift going downhill, the R truely was a gutless wonder. Dad pretty much stopped running it once we found out how gutless it was. And it was sold to the township road dept while we still had 16 acres to plow. The SM-TA made short work of that. The township tore the pto drivetrain out of that R FOUR TIMES in four years. Another poster on a website says Mother Deere put out a technical bulletin saying the R's live pto drivetrain could only survive 14-15 horsepower. We ONLY ever engaged the pto on the R to run the hydraulics to raise/lower drawn implements. One of the happiest days Dad had farming was the Day the R was sold, another happy day was the day the repair shop called after fixing the 4010's pto gearbox and told Dad they had somebody interested in buying it. The four capscrews bolting the 540 rpm stub shaft on had loosened and the stub shaft loosened and the pto tried to shift from 540 to 1000 rpm. I have NO idea what that repair cost, but in 1968 Dollars I'd guess splitting the rearend in two places, new oil, gaskets, seals, and other damaged parts was between $1000 to $2000. The guy that bought it ran it home from the shop, it never made it back to our farm. A year later the guy that bought it came looking for Dad one Sunday wanting to know how much of the transmission rebuild Dad was going to pay for. A turbo was installed on it by the shop before the new owner ran it home. We pulled a 12 ft disk, 4-14 plow with a plow harrow, and the 4010 pulled the Deere #30 pull type combine over 40 acres of oats. My FARMALL SUPER H or an M could have pulled those loads. But if you hooked up to 5-16 inch bottoms and ran in 4th or 5th gear I can see transmission problems happening. We tried pulling 5-14 case trailing plow with a Midwest plow harrow for about 5 hours before pulling the back bottom off and running it as 4-14's. I had run three different 4020's pulling an F-145 Deere 5-14 plow for the neighbor. I broke in his brand new 4320 plowing about 8 hours the day it was delivered. No plow harrow, most places where the ground was level I ran 5th gear. He had one 80 that was ALL UPHILL and DOWNHILL and I ran 3rd & 4th gear with 4020's there.
