Here's a tip I came up with. If your engine is blown or not going to be used again then get a hack saw blade and saw the shaft off, then put pulley in a hydraulic press or just tap it on out with a hammer.

Good to know! This mower has been parked in the barn for last 5 years.

mine was a 1980 model. it looked like the big friction plate part was an alum alloy, because there wasn't a speck of rust anywhere on it.

What is the shaft size?? I have same snapper motor blown but I have a 18 hp v twin in shop do you think they would swap

I don't remember but I'm pretty sure the 18 HP has a bigger shaft.

It's still a 12 hp Briggs but it's off a front engine lawn tractor (no pull start)

I had to beat the CRAP out of the pulley on mine to get it off the crankshaft. It didn't damage it though.

They make a puller for these, but they are expensive.
