Meet Paul Grieve, his family and crew raise 500,000 chickens a year on pasture using regenerative practices. He's part of the farming family that runs both Primal Pastures and Pasture Bird, the largest pastured poultry operations in Southern California. Paul is passionate about the environment and animal welfare raising extremely high quality animal products while regenerating soil. Primal Pastures also raises, cattle, sheep, and pig as well as aggregates other pasture raised meat products from other regenerative farmers. They have an amazing business model that all small farmers can learn from.

Ya basically the law says that they just have to have access to a specific "free range" area at a certain time period. But they are raised in larger concentration than even cages! They don't choose to go outside because as chicks they get used to the building.

Such a great discussion. And to show the justification for incorporating animals in the whole regenerative process instead of thinking we can just find some chemical or other alternative for meat when animals are part of God’s design. Great point also about how did almost as many buffalo inhabit North America as cows now and there was no ‘methane problem’. Great points.

500 birds per structure. 8 weeks per batch. That's 6 batches a year if you raise year-round. That means 3,000 birds a year can be raised in one structure. How many structures you have is the only limit to how many birds can be raised

Hopefully these wonderful chickens receive humane (nearly painless) ‘end of life’ treatment; there are free options that can be very acceptable; blood letting or using ammo can be great alternatives

$6 per chicken thigh and $10/dozen eggs is more than “not the cheapest”, it’s only for the rich. Or at least not for folks trying to feed a whole family.

@@da_ra_sol Sounds like you are getting ripped off. Miami craigslist shows several sellers of farm-fresh eggs for $5/dozen. That's about what they cost here on the west coast (Seattle area). But if you can afforce to pay almost $1 per egg, and $6 for one chicken thigh, all I can say is you are exactly their target market.
@da_ra_sol
@da_ra_sol 5 жыл бұрын
GeeEeeDee i dont pay that i cant afford it im just sayin that the avg here for pasture raised is 7 or 8 and the ones that have for 5$ are only lil hobby farms they cant supply any of the population here and even if i drove to tht part of miami its an hour away that have those small farms so plus gas ur paying 7-8 a dozen .. as for pasture chicken theres really nothing here closest thing i found on eat wild is 10$ a lb for whole bird and thats bulk prices smh aso i can see how this is amazing for people if theres really nothing out there other than wholefood and stores really no reason to complain since hes gettin so big he should lower the price a little tho

I understand you'all believe in what you are doing. you are certainly 'better' than factory farming. But comparing yourself to the worst is easy to do. I believe these are miniature factory farms for poultry, on grass. The chickens do not bond and spend lots of time with their moms', they do not live outside the prison pens, they are controlled every day by humans, and moved to a new bunch of grass, they have a definite shelf life until slaughter. In 1920, chicken took 112 days to raise until slaughter age, when they weighed less than 3 pounds. You slaughter them at age 6 weeks and up to 12 weeks for rare breeds. Based on a normal natural life of 10+ years, you are essentially killing baby birds who are growing excessively fast. Romanticizing the process is lovely, but it is still a process to kill animals. Many articles disagree, and say that 'regenerative" farming will not save the world. Gradually eliminating the consumption of animal products will result in positive changes. GMO's and pesticide agriculture, of course, are not solutions for crop farming. I do not support lab meat, but it is offering a solution. Humans addicted to eating animals are helping to destroy the world through animal agriculture. Pasturing chickens is the linear--efficiency, profit, rapid turnover. Sounds like military jargon and "friendly fire". Yet the birds are honestly NOT living a natural life. But are compared to the worst of the worst. You believe in what you are doing, but you would not trade place with your birds. Peace.
