I am over 60 years old and I love learning new ways of growing anything, I have been planting the whole pineapple crown my whole life, I have a crown in water right now and when the roots grow, I will cut it into quarters. I'm excited to try this. I also found out today that I can plant the pineapple seeds.

I would suggest leaving the crown in water for 20 days to get larger roots before splitting it in halves. That can improve the efficiency by reducing the energy required by the plant to grow in the substrate, therefore reducing the growth time a few more days.
