Better good quality haylage wrapped in the bale than mouldy hay in wet rows in the field. :)

Good man Phil it was better wrapping it should make lovely haylage. There was a time when you needed at least 4 or 5 good days of serious sun and high temperatures to get hay. Now it seems ok for it to get a shower of rain and then try and dry it. Lot of fellas nowadays haven’t a clue about hay. A lot of hay baled last week and can’t see how any of it was fit it was no weather for hay. A lot of it will be heating up this week

Haven't made hay in about 6 years just not worth the time and effort trying to judge the weather and running tractors for shaking it out and rowing it up in the end not to even get hay so if we come across good enough hay we just buy in what we need for the year along with straw so much easier but still would love to get back to doing our own I used to love doing hay

I got 30 odd acres big square baled last Monday and my contractor came with a brand new Ferguson baler, I asked him it it had a moisture meter on it, he said no, as he’d get nothing baled up it he knew.😂😂

Weather forecasters give you a percentage chance of rain, and that way they are able to never take responsibility for being wrong. If they say there's a 5% chance and it rains they were right, if they say there's a 90% chance of rain and it doesn't then they were still right.

In the old days when the weather turned while trying to save hay we hadn't the option of the round bale or haylage and this was felt by many trying to make hay in the bad summer of 1985.. Cutting hay before the time of the round balers was a pure gamble and something that only the older generation will understand fully how much pressure was on the decision to cut it down....

Can remember '85 like last year. I was 16 and sent to turn the hay with a DB996 and PZ haybob. If the rain didn't come on during the turning, it was on before nightfall. Also, I had to hold my finger over the hosepipe to wash the mud and worms of the haybob and mudguards of tractor. Absolute nightmare. Round balers started in '86 with twine and bags sleeved over the bale and tied. We've come a long way in 40 years, tho my late father used to say that 40 years ago too. He was used to working with the horse.

Love this video, because it reminds me of haying when I was a youngster, I felt your frustration. But life goes on, in the life of a farmer. When you were driving down the road, and I saw that stone wall, brought back fond memories of driving in Ireland, visiting from the USA. Scary as hell, but when you handed in the car rental unscratched, it was a sign of accomplishment and adventure that was unbeatable.😊 I don't know how you video this so clear and we'll and still get the job of a farmer done.👍👍

I was hit by a car 2 years ago turning in a gate with no trailer while driving the tractor as a car tried to pass. The car insurance company took my insurance company to court in April and we lost. I think we lost because the judge knew we had nothing to lose and the car owner got his no claim bonus restored having claimed from his own company for the loss of the car. So my insurance company had to pay the other company for the car loss and the day in court expenses of barristers and solicitors.
