I really like that you volunteered your crew to go in alone. A big show of police force is a TOTALLY different approach from the local fire brigade who everybody knows and who have close ties to the communities stopping by and saying: "We know your anger, we feel it with you. But let's not risk a brush fire that could burn down homes, okay?" We did the same when our farmers were upset by a big political shift in the farmer's collective (the unions our farmers have to share expensive equipment, store yields and moderate prices against the big companies) and blocked the big country lane that ran all along our valley. Police wanted them forcefully removed for "security reasons" - we just drove out there with our truck, talked to the organizers of the protest and got a guarantee that every emergency vehicle would be allowed to pass unhindered to all villages along the route, but they would continue to protest by blocking the route for goods and people not living there. Police was kinda pissy that we took away their reason to "storm" the barricades, but in the end the conflict was resolved peacefully and without any farmer going to jail or paying a fine. Usually I don't like the "hero" status we sometimes get as first responders, but there are special times when it's good to throw that weight around a bit.

@@roger0929 Yeah. It's actually a life goal of mine to minimize the action any storm trooper sees as much as possible. :) That is not to say that I generally dislike cops. In my country they are usually very meassured in their response and do a good job in keeping the peace and upholding the law without wielding it like a weapon. Obviously there are bad apples, power does corrupt weaker minds, but overall the cooperation with police, especially local police, is really really good. But once they call in reinforcements and the intentionally dehumanizing riot gear is put on, they just become a legally santioned mob. There are some rare circumstances where you need that level of response, but it's not for a peaceful protest of farmers. I have found that a single cop in his everyday uniform without a heavy duty belt can have 50 times the impact a storm trooper has... Hooray for local cops!

I'm Dutch, but most of my firefighting knowledge is from Germany, since Germans LOVE to go into detail about firefighting stuff. As far as I know, we don't really have a default attack line in DE/NL. For small fires they use the "Schnellangriff"/"hoge druk" quick attack lines. Those are pretty tiny, like 3/4" and run a pressure of 30 or 40 bar. For larger fires, they'd use a "C-schlauch"/"lage druk", those are roughly 2 inches and run at 10 or 15 bar. When you need a LOT of water on a fire, the Germans also have a "B-schlauch", which is one size up from the C. They normally use it as a supply line, but can also attach a special B-nozzle to it, which has to be held by 2 people at full blow, and is still very hard to hold. I must say, I love the Germans for their hose system. They have everything from A to D, and there's HD and F. Truth be told, I think they looked at the US for this convention, since D to A is small to large, but F is the largest. HD stands for high pressure. F lines are 6" lines almost exclusively used with the Hytrans Fire System (check it out on YT if you don't know it, it's awesome). A-lines are rarely used, only by specialized fire departments of companies that work with dangerous materials. B is the regular supply line to the "verteiler"/"verdeelstuk" 3-way wye, C is the regular attack line. D hoses are mostly used for forest fires, where you have long distances and don't need a lot of water. The HD line is the solid high pressure line that's often used for a quick first attack, or for smaller fires, since it's just easier to use. About the Dutch system: I don't know the naming conventions, knowing us it's probably something like a "50" for a 52mm line. Using the German naming system, I know we use the F's, since we also use the Hytrans Fire System, and I think other than that we mainly use the C's. B's are probably used only under special circumstances, if they even exist. So I guess it all depends on the situation.

As Tim Derks said. There is a system with choices depended on what you need for the scenario. But also for the region where the fire station is present. In the village where i live we currently are allowed to build 5 stories' high because that's the highest the ladderwagon and pumps can reach. If you want to build a higher building, there is an extra investment for the builder to make sure that the fire station can buy a new ladder wagon and stronger pumps. Same is for dry forest regions etc.

I am from Slovenia and we use the same sizes of hose as Germans do. our low-pressure hoses are sized A (110 mm or just over 4,1/4" internal diameter), B (75mm; 3"), C (52 or 48mm; 2") and D (25mm or abt 1"). The most commonly used attack line would be a C-size hose with a turbo-nozzle at the end, which is a nozzle with which you can regulate flow and shape of water stream. from videos that I watched I gather that you use similar kind of nozzles, but I'm not sure about flow rates and operating pressures. our nozzles work best at 6-8 bar (90-120 psi) and we normally utilize the flow of about 250 liters per minute (66 gallons per minute), but can adjust it to anything from 130l to 400l per minute. from looking at your videos and equipment, it seems to me that you use lower pressures when working with your attack lines (seeing how easily you can bend the hose) but maybe you use higher water flows? I would be glad if you could answer that for me. B-size hoses meanwhile can have a flow rate of up to 1000lpm (260gpm), but that is up to the pump and the pressure. these lines are normally not used as attack lines, as they are just too heavy, but are used to supply trucks with water or to supply a triple distributor (another piece of equipment that I never seem to see in your videos) from which C-size lines are laid to the fire itself. only case when we would use a B-hose directly would be when needing a large amount of water on the fire, that time we would use a special B-size nozzle, or a portable water monitor. D-size hoses are used mostly on bush fires as Tim Derks said, as they are much lighter and easier to drag around, while A-size hoses are used very rarely, from my experience they only exist as suction hoses, shorter than normal and solid, so a fire engine can suck water form a ditch or a pond in an event when hydrant is not available. I am fascinated by American way of storing and laying hose and also the sizes. I find it fascinating how all of your hose is pre-connected (with the nozzle as well) on the truck and you just pull it out and carry it to the work area. we also have a similar system, but its a basket of 3 preconnected hoses (usually B-size) that can be used to stretch a line for a longer distance (45-60 meters) without rolling hoses, usually to connect to a hydrant or to make an attack up a stairwell. other than that and the fast deployment reel, that the Dutch firefighters like to use very much, we mostly use rolled C-size hoses that we stretch, connect, connect to the truck or triple distributor and a nozzle at the end. compared to fast deployment reel or your way of doing it it takes more time, but with practice you get fast. i am also interested in your way of connecting hoses together. in Slovenia we use the same way of connections you can see in the video (most of Europe uses that), its called Storz. all hoses, from A to D and sometimes even fast deployment reels use the same kind of connection in different sizes. its simple and easy to connect even by hand on smaller hoses. I would be glad if you described to me what kind of hose connections you use in America and what kind of tools are needed to connect hoses.

De waterwagen is rechtstreeks aangesloten op de inlaat van de pomp,er komt nu geen water via de tank van de auto zelf. door de zwarte slang aan de sluiten op de lagedruk aansluiting en op de vulaansluiting van de tank, kun je op deze manier direct de tank vullen

In this case corruptness is not what's happening here. The Netherlands has a long history of trying to boss its farmers around, trying to 'guide' them how to do their jobs. This is especially true for farmers that have animals.

Ik heb 1 vraag aan de boeren. Moesten dat soort acties nou echt? Ik heb echt geen enkele moeite met het feit dat ze wilden demonstreren. We leven in een land waarin gelukkig gedemonstreerd mag worden. In landen zoals Rusland is dat geen optie zonder hardhandig opgepakt te worden. Maar er zijn naar mijn mening wel grenzen aan het recht om te mogen demonstreren. Ik zeg dat ook tegen mensen die tegen zwarte piet zijn. Demonstreren is oké, maar de plek en de manier waarop is zeker van belang. Daarnaast is veel demonstraties die boeren hebben gedaan strafbaar. Dat komt door het simpele feit dat je niet zomaar als groep mag demonstreren. En dan heb ik het over een groep die bij elkaar is om te demonstreren. Als je in je eentje ergens wilt gaan demonstreren, dan mag dat. Dus als boer mag je bijvoorbeeld op het Binnenhof met een bord gaat staan zonder dat je daar toestemming voor hoeft aan te vragen. Wil je als groep daar gaan staan, dan moet je daar toestemming voor krijgen. Ook hier langs de A30 lijkt me sprake van een demonstratie in groepsverband. Het lijkt me sterk dat de burgemeester (of wie er dan ook over gaat) toestemming heeft gegeven om hier te demonstreren. In artikel 9, lid 2 van de Grondwet staat dat 'de wet' regels kan stellen aan de betoging 'in het belang van het verkeer'. Demonstreren naast een snelweg vraagt om een verhoogde kans op files/aanrijdingen. Dat is dus niet in het belang van de veiligheid in het verkeer. Dat er boeren zijn geweest die het Malieveld hebben omgeploegd met hun trekkers, mag misschien niet, maar ik heb daar geen problemen mee. Simpelweg omdat ze daar niemand mee tot overlast zijn. Het over de snelweg naar het Malieveld rijden vind ik dan weer geen goede actie. Zoals een oom van mij (melkveehouder) enkele jaren geleden zei 'je moet geen acties voeren waardoor de burger tegen je gaat keren'. De boeren hebben zelf er voor gezorgd dat er steeds minder burgers achter de boeren staan. Je krijgt echt niet meer steun door langs snelwegen branden te stichten. Je krijgt echt niet meer steun door met trekkers over de snelweg te gaan rijden. Je krijgt echt niet meer steun door de vlaggen ondersteboven op te hangen. Je krijgt steun door steeds het verhaal te vertellen dat de overheid en de banken de boeren de afgelopen decennia met torenhoge leningen heeft opgezadeld en dat zij steeds de boeren belazerd hebben. De afschaffing van de melkquotum betekende meer ruimte voor de boer. O, nee, toch niet. Boeren, vanuit mijn hart, ga de burger niet in de weg liggen. Ga geen domme dingen doen. Ga geen dingen doen die strafbaar zijn. Gedraag je niet agressief, maar blijf netjes en beleefd. Nee, boeren zijn geen domme mensen. Gebruik die hersenen! Hoe boos je ook bent, blijf nadenken! Doe geen domme dingen! Ik heb alle vertrouwen in jullie, boeren, dat jullie dit ook overleven. Wat wel een goede actie was was de actie in mijn mooie dorp Woudenberg tijdens de Vuelta.

Als men tot wanhoop in een hoekje worden gezet gaan ze rare sprongen maken. En er zullen ook altijd paar zijn die de sensatie gewoon opzoeken. Maar neemt niet weg dat de onrust in de samenleving groot is. -Toeslageaffaire -Lange wachttijden bij ggz -Energie/gas onbetaalbaar -brandstofprijzen rijzen de pan uit -Veel mensen plegen zelfmoord -Groei in dakloze. (alleen is het meer onzichtbare golf omdat het CBS geen strakke cijfers kan voeren) -Boeren die gedwongen moeten stoppen met hun bedrijf -Coronapandemie -En een overheid die niet weet hoe ze leiderschap moeten tonen of überhaupt weet hoe men moet regeren. Het probleem wat ik ondervind is dat men niet meer weet wat een SAMEN leving inhoud. Het betekend dat je letterlijk het samen moet doen om een normale leving te behouden in een samenleving. Het is in en in triest hoe men tegenwoordig met elkaar omgaat. Je ziet het ook in de politiek het is of extreem links of extreem rechts. Maar op de inhoud ingaan ho maar. En alles moet in groepjes geplaatst worden. Denk daarbij aan wappies of kakkerds of vluchtelingen of linkse hippies of rechtse racisten. Een normaal dialoog aangaan of een afwijkende mening hebben word totaal niet geaccepteerd.
