The ability to read the weather, make almost everything from little, gain patience from frustration&misery.(My Grandpa) When my garage was burning&I was hauling hay equipment away from the heat, the only men to step forward were an old farmer and his 2 sons from a place 8 miles up(54 men from 5 firehouses were scared there might "explosions")I saved all but 1 tractor outa 7,we were standing there with our hair smoking off our arms---I swear to God---he said to me,"We gotta get this put out,I gotta go finish milkin!!!!!!"There is a little humanity left,if you find the right humans.I'm sorry for your loss.Enjoy the day.

I was at a Dairy Farmers home caring for someone there. I was simply amazed at what all he had to do to take care of the cows and Dairy Farm. The work it takes is simply amazing. This man had little to no help. I’m not sure he’s still alive. I hope so though. Blessings.

When I was 14 or 15 I spent most of a summer working with / for my grandfather, a retired farmer. He was a tough old man who lived through the great depression and lost a brother in WW2. Every day at noon we came inside and washed up to have lunch with Grandma and listen to Paul Harvey on the radio. Every time I hear Paul Harvey's voice I think of them both. I miss you Grandma and Grandpa. 😢

I'm so blessed and fortunate to be a 4th generation dairy farmer. Our farm has been in our family for over 100 years. It's hard work but rewarding work! My granddad heard this speech on the radio in 1976 and it has motivated my uncle and I to work that much harder. God bless all the farmers out there!

My father milked cows twice a day, and walked behind a horse with a one furrow plow, and shucked corn from "the down row" I've rescued breach born calfs and put up hay in 100+ degree lofts, and sat on a tractor pulling a disk all day long, borke the ice for the cows and horse and carried hay through the mud and manure. Sadly, those days are gone, and I'm city slicker now and this commercial made me cry, but the American Famer endures.

I've NEVER BEEN GOOD ENOUGH OR STRONG ENOUGH TO BE A FARMER. Only Paul Harvey ( or maybe Red Skeleton ) could write this beauty and tribute to men/women and families who give us all so much and ask so little except for the sunshine and well timed rains. I've been lucky enough to know and be bonded to a farming family. There is no stronger person of character or spirit. Thank you for posting this. And THANK GOD for all of our farmers. We cannot repay you for all you do for us.

Mr Harvey was a neighbor of mine. Though I don't know if he wrote this or just recited it, it is almost perfectly a clear representation of my values. This is what community ought to be. This poem depicts the essence of my American dream. If that resonates with you take steps everyday to be grateful and to live the words out in your own life. If you think that is old fashioned, stupid or useless you are part of a larger problem that plagues this nation.

I also was raised on a farm, in the Beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It is a very hard life. Your work never ends. Back in tha day, a lot of farmers had to make and sell "Moonshine" just to put food on the table and clothes on their backs. I know, I was there. Great video! Brought tears to my eyes. Really hard now for small farmers to make a living at it. I do not miss the farm life at all.
