Love this story! This can be practiced by everyday homeowners to grow their own food. A Farmers Friend Greenhouse is a game changer. I have a 50’x16’ for personal use. Friends, family and neighbors all benefit.

It's encouraging to hear truthful stories of startups requiring full time jobs to sustain income while building out and transitioning to a market garden operation. A very thoughtful and realistic approach to achieve their goals.

They went all in pretty quick, that's kind of good and also scary to lay out all that money and now have all that added responsibility before you prove it out.

inspiring..following your passion is really fullfilling.. I remember doing the same, working as an engineer in a power plant in philippines while managing to start up my minifarm. It is really difficult. As of now, I’m still in the process of growing and developing my farm and hopefully someday I will reach the goal that I am dreaming. thank you

This is exactly how I feel. I want to do it long term. It’s what I know I’m supposed to do in my time here, provide the “loaves & fish.” Going to my 2 jobs motivates me to put in the work and time and money to obtain my future farm with veggies, fruits and cut flowers.

It is so sad that our society is designed to keep us working in offices, warehouses, and factories to sustain the infinite growth economy at the expense of what really matters: the soil, the food we grow and eat, the value of human connection and our connection to nature. The work of small farmers is so valuable. They should not have to work themselves into the ground to pursue their passion to feed their families and those in their communities. It is wrong that we have designed the world this way. We need real change on a systemic level, but there is no incentive for those in power to change the system. It is doing exactly what it was intended to do: make more money for the rich at the expense of the health of our land and our bodies. We need more support for small farmers like this and less support for corporate billionaires.

@mikuspalmis that's a mighty bold comment considering the totality of your understanding of my farm and life you pulled from this video. I'm trying to build something with my family that I'll be able to pass down to my children if they want. I feed my community. I feed my family. I educate. I'm living the life I want. There is no reason to throw shade at me, even if you disagree with how I go about my life.

@@RedFernFarmVA I didn't say you weren't doing anything good. Before you replied on another comment about getting 8-10 hours of sleep on other days, I assumed the 3 or so hours was the norm because I didn't hear anything else. And I figure what's the use of running a farm to feed others who could also be taught to grow their own food when you're running yourself down which wouldn't be good for you or your family. So now you can understand my reasoning. I don't go around talkin trash on people or bein negative just because. I take things as is. Your good intentions and actions and hard work I respect. I just wasn't presented the full picture. My apologies for the offense. I realize some people have trouble feeding themselves so it's completely understandable to want to give to the community whether it's donated food or lower prices for better food than can be found in a grocery store.

@@RedFernFarmVA You did also state how you hated getting up so early and I thought to myself that I'd be excited to get up early no matter what time if I had my own land but I understand that you have an extremely full schedule and had to work away from home as well.

In long period, this sleep schedule cant work so... just dont. Dont lie. We know that farming is a hard work.
@RedFernFarmVA
@RedFernFarmVA 6 ай бұрын
True, it's not a good long term plan, and I've since been able change up my employment and no longer need this schedule. But the truth is, I'd not been able to get to where I am or my farm/ business to where it is without that sacrifice. Noone lied, farming is HARD work. And unless you are doing it, I don't think you can truly understand. Would I recommend people start a farm like I did, probably not. But I 💯 recommend people follow their dreams and do so the bast way they see fit.

Overworking yourself with little sleep is a recipe for disaster. Take care of your health so you can enjoy the farm pain free as long as possible. Take it from someone who has been through it.

I agree. But sometimes we've to to balance reality with the ideal. To be clear this sleep schedule was only during harvest/Market days. But it allowed to scale up and switch jobs allowing me significantly more time on the farm and sleep. Would I recommend this to others? Probably not. But it allowed me to get to where I am and to continue farming with a much more relaxed schedule. Everyone had to decide what is right for them. From my POV it was 4 years of really pushing it or 12 years of slow growth... I chose the former. Definitely enjoying the rest and less stressful farming style I'm doing now and definitely will allow me to keep farming for awhile.

Fear drives people to live beyond what they should really be able to do. What about mushrooms, teas, herb and spices? What about heating the greenhouses? Produce all year long. You will have to test various crops. i am just a stranger, hoping to get off the grid.

Yes. One ideally should work towards self sufficiency in as many areas as possible, and not necessarily trying to make as much money as possible at the expense of one's health.

No need for this. Please go elsewhere with your prayers and blessings that are not about these people's hard and good work for the earth, soil, their family and community. Praise these people for what they've accomplished instead of these stupid narrow sighted reactions. Some people believe in your version of God, some not. And both can do good 😉
