Yep, I totally agree with culling wild cattle. Your health is what your family depends on. If you suffer a broken leg or worse, everything changes for your family. You are the real asset in this business.

One thing about your channel is that its more real. A farm is not about shiny new expensive tractors and a bunch of animal pets Some just feed the animals and buy new tractors. Yours is a true working farm. I think having a sense of order on the farm is good. Good job on loading food animals.

Tyler: My grandpappy would say to us as youngsters “they’re not pets, they’re the farm’s profits.” Milk was sold to the creamery. But there always came a time when a cow’s milk production fell below her feed and vet costs and she got culled. While it’s not exactly the same as a beef operation, the same principles apply. And kids living on a working farm learn the lesson early. The same lesson was taught at 4H when our show animals, birds or rabbits were sold and money was added each year to our college funds. Hope your kids have the opportunity to join 4H or FFA when they’re old enough. Respectfully, W.S.

I was like you, Tyler! I was sure that Cow was going over that fence… she was having none of her getting in that trailer. But you stuck with her and let her know that you wanted her in that trailer. Good for you. Wrangling cattle is not what people think it is and it’s definitely not easy. Cows definitely have a mind of their own! They can be so stubborn, and once they set their mind or foot to an attitude, they’re not going anywhere at all!!!!!!!! Super glad it all worked out for you.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

You are so right about culling high headed cattle. I have a first calf heifer that developed a bad attitude after she called. Now when I go in the pasture she takes every calf she can to the far reaches. She will. E gone in a couple of weeks.

I have one cow just like her. She watches every move I make. She won't eat unless I am out of sight, and she has jumped a fence in the past. My wife wants to keep her, because she produces great calves. I want to sell her, because of how dangerous she is.

Build a better place to load is my 2 cents. We got rid of 1 when moving to different state. She sneaked upon the hubby and he was hitting her over the head with his hat. I told him it was sale day and back the trailer up. The cow is going to hurt or possibly kill you. She just never liked him except feeding. After feeding. She would still try to get him.

Yes, they still have stock reports as well as grain pricing at least 5 days a week. Most farmers have their ears perked right up when those reports come on the radio.

Your observation about behavioral patterns is spot on. My uncle used to say, when one goes they all go (over and/or through the fence). More drovers were seriously hurt in stampedes than on Saturday night. You'll get that chute replaced then it will be something else. Perhaps grandpas Jubilee!

Good job getting rid of "Wild Thang"! I remember her from another time or two in the past where she looked like she was going to run you over if you weren't careful handling her. No you sure don't need a hot-headed cow like her. Was one of those cows the one that had the little blind calf you tried bottle feeding a while but it eventually died (I think)! See you Saturday!

Oh my God...i felt like i was there loading #60...good riddence...she was going to jump...just one more indesisive thought and she would have belly flopped that fence....THAT was close. I took in my skiddish fearful black-baldy this year too....the group calmed down after she left my ranch. Shame to see her go....and let her go at 4 years old...but it's better--safer for the rancher and group.

It becomes easy to see why domesticated animals are mellow and biddable (for lack of a better term) If every generation the Einsteins, escape artists and drama queens get removed before they have a chance to have a lot of offspring, that is going to make for much easier herd management overall. The last thing any ranchers needs to to be injured by a high spirited live stock. I’m so impressed with how mellow the bulls are as well It makes for a much safer environment overall

I think you're too hard on yourself over a 15 minute load time. I don't have a shoot so I never get it done that fast. Besides, I bet in a 3hr drive to the sale barn you probably spent more than 15 minutes on stop lights. :) I think your cull decision was spot on and you're right that regarding culling its just a matter of when, not if.
