You’re one of the hardest working and most resourceful people I watch on KZbin! Giving yourself 50% is seriously cutting yourself short… you’ve done so many more things that didn’t make it on the official list. And you EXPLAIN things so that even non-farmers can understand. I think you’re doing a spectacular job!

Chickens following the cattle is the usual system. The idea is to have the chickens clear out the bug eggs and larvae. They also spread the cattle manure to find those larvae etc.
@theresateegarden914712 сағат бұрын
They also continue to add chicken manure which fertilizes the grass in the pastures.

The new loading chute will be huge. A beautiful addition to the newer pipe fencing and a meaningful improvement in property value, not to mention easier loading. The chickens will be in heaven living in a mobile home on the pasture, especially on those days when it’s parked over an ant hill. Maybe a camel or two for the smut grass? They’ll eat anything and they’ll scare the bejeezus out of any neighborhood coyotes! 😂

Yep, he's not adding all the jobs that popped up - trailer sides, new shop tools that resulted in reorganization, etc. Two bottle calves are enough to upset anyone's list!

Tyler, You accomplished a great deal this year! Your self scoring system might need a little makeover. While you didn’t accomplish all those goals on your list, there were other improvements you made crucial to equipment upkeep. As you might recall, you tuned up the tractor, truck, changed oil, filters and if I recall correctly, you made a very cool, new, removable toolbox for the LS. And then you tore apart a carburetor in 5 minutes, restored it to new! Your one man show speaks volumes to us in terms of daily maintenance of the cattle, hogs, chickens and oh let’s not forget how you go out of your way to help others, including your parents in the almond orchard. Your life is rich with blessings: a beautiful family, wonderful pets, your ability to nurse back to health newborns (twins) & injured cattle (pinkeye, hoof rot, abscesses) You’re not only a rancher who can do anything, create anything, you’re a wonderful provider, husband (I’m sure Bre will agree), and father to Macy and Matty! In FTR world, you’re top notch! Here’s to an amazing 2024 ~ and Commence with an awesome 2025 🎉 filled with love and joy and prosperity in every aspect of your life! Hugs, Suzie

Enjoyed your year of videos, looking forward to what you do for 2025. One thing I might comment on for your loading chute rebuild is consider adding a ramp to trailer floor level, we did this several years ago and this made loading cattle much easier, especially calves. Same for unloading, we also created a dirt ramp in the pasture to back trailer up to, so the cattle will have less apprehension about getting out or reducing any potential injuries. Glad you are addressing your bull pen, it was way too small for mature bulls, what you have is more of a calving pen or pen to confine lame or sick animals. Looking forward to 2025, keep em coming.

Good for you. Regenerative is the way to go. Build yourself a couple small chicken tractors and put meat birds in one and layers in the others. It will fit right into your program. You did a lot of great work this year. Always good to take time to reflect on how far you've come!

Mate, get youeself and old caravan and remove the floor and replace with wire for the hens to stand on, gut the inside and put roosts in there cut a mall door in the side for access with a ramp. That way you can move it around plus layer boxs for them to lay there eggs with outside access for you

@jodiedwards26346 сағат бұрын
All in all, you still had a great year, no matter what your point system says. I would imagine, without saying, your main goals are family first (check), better production from cattle (check) and better production from fields (check). The other goals are additional to the main goals, and sometimes they get done and sometimes they don’t. Thank goodness we have another year coming to work on them! Love your channel, thanks for sharing, and Happy New Year! ❤❤❤

Even though you didn't get everything done, the things you got done were monumental tasks. The amount of things done in the working corral was a huge amount of effort! If you want to see how the mobile chicken coop thing works with cows, Gold Shaw Farms has done this with their chickens and cattle for a while. Lisa used to. I don't watch their channel anymore. Granted, they didn't have near as many cattle as you do, but you can at least see the concept in action if you're more of a visual person. It not only helps the soil but it also decreases fly pressure because they eat the fly larvae and eggs.

Thanks FTR . The Weed Wiper is # 1 on my watch list as you well know. Don't forget to Wipe every other row and then come back after a couple weeks and wipe the rows you didn't get the first time. So you don't contaminate the wheels and ruin the good grass. I reccomend either 3 point or a wheel model for ATV style. Just me say'en. My opinion.

Chickens in the pasture might help solve the smut grass problem! They eat everything and when I see others move those chicken tractors, the ground is clean. KZbinr Justin Rhodes’s has a small farm in North Carolina and he built what he calls a chicken rickshaw. Great for moving chickens every few days. I think that you should invest in a couple of geese to keep the chickens safe if you go this route. Check him out. Happy New Year to you and your family. 🎉
@westsidesjvalley13 сағат бұрын
I think you forgot a big goal there, you now have a bigger cab tractor for this next year. For smut grass removal since you already have irrigation, a set of rakes, a baler and a way to move bales. If you had an old school sickle bar mower what if you took a few checks out of the pasture rotation and plant alfalfa. Much more chemistry choices in grass control, plus it’s a natural way to replenish the valley soils.

I am a fan. I also watch other farm/ranch vlogs. Several of them use "mobile" coups" in the pasture. Many designs, even ones that can be moved just with just manpower, but they do not move them everyday or every 2-3 days. Basically they move them when the grass/weeds have been used up/flattened pretty much completly. Although this is not many months, it does not occur in days. Good fortune!

Excellent wrap up FT. I think you’re too hard on yourself. How much time did you spend maintaining your vehicles? How many steers and pigs did you harvest? How many bales did you put up? And, oh by the way, you devoted countless hours to the family. Happy New Year to FTR.

I forgot to add in my comment. I think everything is ok. Maybe did not complete your wish list, but I was so pleased when you completed work on your working corral. That is a very functional area. Ease to work the critters, storage space, all of which is done in an environment of safety for you and cows/steers/calves/heifers. That was probably your most time and resource consuming project of the year. I so stressed out when I watched you working the cattle in that corral by yourself. One of them tromps on you and can Mrs FTR get there in time?

How about pouring a long strip of cement to put the water trough in and in front of hay feed area. One and done. I have faith that you can do that. The meat birds in mobile chicken shelters would be great. They eat bugs, reducing their cost of food. They leave fertilizer that feeds the soil. I’ve seen many people do this and it works.
