Nice show, if I was trying to go into farming,and at 71 years old I am not, I would have to watch your videos over and over because you cram so much information into them.

Yes definitely the very best way to raise bottle babies. Done it like this for years as long as my milk mommas are in milk at the right time. Less chance of scours and even upper respiratory issues. I will be picking up 6 bottle babies in 2 weeks. We are still wet and cold here in WI. Deff have to wait for good weather to have the best success

You’re right! They raise much healthier calves than feeding them on the bottle. You’ve probably still got a good supply up there of bottle calves. Dairies are getting few and far between down here. Best of luck with yours!

With the price of milk replacer. Yes that's the way to go. I will be doing bottle calfs again this year.

Issac, you need to make a ramp to hook onto the trailer to make unloading easier. You need to look after your body now for a comfortable old age. Advice from one who should have taken her own advice.

My jersey loves the calfs like they are all hers . I do 3 then I do 2 so I get 5 calfs a year off one cow
@FarmandHammer2 жыл бұрын
Jerseys seem to make the best nurse cows! I’d love to get one. Most of them will let almost any calf nurse. And 5 is probably a safe number. Not sure if I’ll try six this year or just stick with 5. Thanks for watching!

That's amazing that you are able to get these cows to accept and raise these orphan calves.

Well the calves are doing 👍 so keep it up maybe add a few more nurse cows. Keep that shoulder place and moving, can't have you out for surgery to much work to do!

I was looking into getting started with this. I was raised around cattle and I’ve wanted to get back into them, but I don’t have enough land for even a good sized herd. I have plenty for a couple of nurse cows and a load of calves. But I’m wondering how I could even break even when calves are going for $250 in my area and sale barn prices are $287 for 350 lb calves right now…

You arent factoring in alot of costs....you are letting these slip in and cause they arent taking up much you seem to count them as zero....when they arent zero. Fencing costs, land costs, time costs, cost to pick up and sell....these things add up cause you purposely forget about them so you can say this idea of yours makes good money....

Why does this seem like an ugly comment with a fair dose of bitter? You could purposely overlook things that you could criticize and work on you instead of him as well. Mad respect for this hard working dude burning both end of the candle.
