We're hanging out in the kitchen again today, cooking up a storm. I'm making my mom's beef stew with biscuits, marzipan, baked oatmeal and sourdough. We also have some new farm kittens I wanted to introduce you to. I hope you enjoy coming along with us and wish you a wonderful day.
Thanks for watching!

Before you return the damaged freeze dryer you should ask if you can purchase the trays that came with it. Nice to have an extra set to prefreeze stuff while your freeze dryer is running. It would save on shipping charges if you decided you wanted a second set of trays in the future.

We love our HarvestRight freeze dryer! We have freeze dried eggs, fruits, vegetables and left over meals. We have the oil pump but we’ve only had to change the oil once since we got it last summer and we ran it almost non stop for July and August. It tells you when to change it so that was a bonus that you don’t have to keep up with it.

Did you buy your freeze dryer in Canada & if so, which company did you buy through? I’m guessing it would be best to buy straight from Harvest Rite but it costs a way more converting the dollars to Canadian. Thanks for sharing😊

Good job! First time I have seen a pastry dough recipe that resembles what I have used for over 30 years - except that I sprinkle vinegar over lard, baking powder and flour (5 c) , then to one whisked egg, I add milk to make 1 cup. pour over and mix with fork and then I knead the dough for a few seconds just to form ball and use up flour. I use hands to crumble lard. I never refrigerate it. Always flaky. Good video!

I make up 2 1/2 gallon jars of cocoa mix using powdered milk bc I put a scoop in my coffee everyday. Usually buy it at the Amish store in bulk, but had to get a bag for a Christmas gift & paid $13 for a 12 oz bag. 😩I use it in bread recipes(dried buttermilk powdered too) to avoid scalding it. Freeze dried whole milk will be amazing! I can only find low-fat dried milk.

There’s just me, my husband & 18 yo son(who’ll be heading to college next year) though a freeze dryer would be amazing, it’s an expense that doesn’t make sense for us. BUT, I’ve been watching for a sale on a 9 layer/timer Excalibur dehydrator on sale & just got one! It was $369.99 down to $234 at Walmart online(US) if anyone’s looking. You might try converting your recipes by taking the new recipe ( the smaller one) and dividing that amount by the large recipe amount (ex. 8 servings divided by 12 servings). The number you get (.667) is your “conversion factor.” You multiply that number by each ingredient to get your new amounts. So if you have 1/2 cup of flour in the larger (old) recipe you multiply by .667 to get .334 or 1/3 cup. You might already know all this lol, but if not then I thought it could make it easier for you. Love your videos!!

She probably knew but I did not. I sm a widow now living in Costa Rica. North American food is what I must cook. Local food is 3 or 4 starches with each meal plus rice. I must eat very little starch to control my diabetes with my diet. So I am constantly looking for diabetic friendly meals made from scratch. All the sugar free ingredients available in the US are not available here. They are not imported into Costa Rica. Cane sugar is raised here and sold all over the world. Local diets are loaded with it as well.

Love your videos, thank you for all your great content and teaching. We have a large Freeze Dryer and love it as well. I’m sure you will get so much use out of it. I have the premium pump which is the green one that you have and I really like that one because oil changes are every 20 to 30 batches. Where as the basic one is every six batches of needing an oil change. I looked into the oilless pump but unfortunately, you actually have to send that back every two years or so to the company to be rebuilt. That and itself can be quite expensive the shipping back-and-forth. ❤ 🤗 Blessings to your family

The price of eggs here are pretty expensive too. One brand i bought about a month ago which was an 18 pack of extra large eggs (Jumbo) was over $10. Its was a brand called Crystal. So, i didn't even realize intill i got home. But this past time i bought some, they were exactly the same size and all and they were about $6 from Walmart. But thats so awesome about the freeze drying. We cant wait to see the video to see how the fruit turned out. The stew and biscuits looked sooo delicious!!! And oh my gosh, the cherry with almonds, chocolate and oats is so my thing! You are the best! I can't wait to attempt to make those😊 And the kittens are adorable🤗 But them crazy goats...lol🤣. An old Southern trick to get biscuits to rise better is to put them pretty close together in the pan. Basically about 1/2 centimeter or 1/4 inch apart. They will touch while baking and you will have to pull them apart afterwards, but you will get a much more fluffy biscuit that way. Also, if you don’t have a round biscuit cutter or a glass, you can just cut the dough with a sharp paring knife to make square biscuits. They will still cook up just fine. And don’t roll them out too thin. 3/4-1 inch (2-2.5 cm) thick dough works well.
