This is so great. I have a degree in nutrition and we learned about "best by" and "sell by" dates, you are totally right many items can be consumed even once they've "expired". what a great way to reduce food waste and get a deal!!

I adore your videos! Your lifestyle is very different to mine, I’m a girl from the industrial North West of the UK, my Dad was a coal miner, Mum always worked too, though I remember she really had to fight my Dad for it. He was paranoid that people would think he couldn’t look after his own family! That’s what the working men were like 50-60 years ago. Dad wasn’t an authoritarian, usually, he was the most kind & loving man, but proud. I’m fascinated though, with the ease & grace with which you run your huge family, the garden, grinding your own grains & still having time to search out things to make your home beautiful. It looks idyllic to me. You helped me perfect my sourdough bread & I’m now famous in my family & friends for my chocolate cake made with starter discard, pancakes are food of the Gods to my Great nieces & nephews, so thank you, thank you. I’ll continue to enjoy yours & your family’s adventures, I think your kids will be so grateful to you & your husband, teaching them, not just academically, but a whole clean & wholesome way of life & all it has to offer. Be well, be happy. 😊

My family is Mennonite, and own a large bulk food store in East Tennessee, close to Johnson City. I now live in SC with my husband and kiddos, and I really, really miss having easy access to all that good bulk stuff 😢 it’s such a blessing to find those types of stores! We are big fans of our bulk foods and real butter, cheese, meats, etc.

Great deal on the flour! I wish I had a store like that in my area. Just a tip, you can freeze your flour for a couple of days and ensure it will last longer. Just freeze then remove to store or store in buckets. I prefer your grocery haul to others in that I get to see the great deals you got as opposed to " look at all the expensive stuff I bought that you can't afford" type haul.

Just hearing Rod and Staff homeschooling threw me back… my sisters and I only used their grammar books, and we hated them at the time because they were (in our minds) really difficult, but once I started going to actual school in high school I realized how far ahead I was in grammar. Now, I love grammar. I will always credit those books❤️

I freeze my flour! I was looking through the comments to see if anybody else does it lol. We used to live on a very humid island, so we always threw the flour in the freezer to keep it from going bad. Then when we moved back to the US it was just a habit. So now I always keep it in the freezer and I rarely look at the expiration date.

Butternut Squash soup: Cut up squash and an onion (onion is important) . Coat in olive oil, s&p. Roast. Add veggies and chicken broth to mixer. Blend. Keep it thicker, not too much broth (think porridge). Top w dollop of sour cream, grate of nutmeg. I've even had this thick porridge'y savory soup for breakfast ... it's so good.

If you or a family member has a food saver you could put flour in ball jars( if you have) and buy the round attachment to vacuum seal the flour and that will buy you even more time. Of course if you have room in the freezer you can put it in there as well. Great haul. After the year we had last year I decided we need3d to store up certain things for emergency situations. I have never felt that way before but I have canned ground beef and chicken as well as flour, corn meal, rice and beans. You have to have power to use your freezer so I canned as well as stocked freezers. And trust me I’m nota chicken little but after the last year and a half 🤷‍♀️

Did you find all of them ? Sunshine Foods ,discount/ bulk . Dutch Country , same thing . And you found Bramble patch 🥰 there’s another Mennonite bulk food in Excelsior, Weavers country market . Then there’s three discount stores that sell anything but food . In Highpoint right along C highway is Pops . Then there’s the clothing / material store yet ! Also the organic products or really any of these products sold in Mennonite bulk food stores are not necessarily produced by them . Just to clarify.

I just bought some cast iron from pop's the other day. $6.99 for 12" cast iron skillet and $6.49 for cast iron griddle. $3.59 for 8" skillet. I was so excited!

There's an Amish store about 45 minutes away and we make the trip every 2-3 months. They're a favorite place to shop.

Our kiddoes were homeschooled we also had group that we had co-op for food and then we created one for our livestock and our inside animals. We learned a lot and we’re so close.

Great buys! Wish we had a Mennonite/Amish community shopping, nothing on long island 8 hours upstate. And Azure standard has no drop site near me. All the way in CT.

Ooh yes, I LOVE a good grocery haul, and yours did not disappoint! All of those teas, oh my goodness. Do you think that freezing (or refrigerating) the flour would help prolong the shelf life?

My mum and dad bring us flour from Canada and I freeze it - never have an issues with it going stale or getting bugs when I freeze it. Food safe buckets are a great option too - especially if you can get the ones with an airlock seal.

I keep extra flour in the freezer and it works great. I only do a few bags though. Great video.

I love things like this but always get a bit jealous of your cooking. LOL We are a wheat free family due to an anaphylactic allergy so most of your recipes are a no go for us. I have made some of your meat specific recipes, though! There are stores within a half hour of us run by Mennonites. We call them "bent and dent" stores. Dented cans, close to expiry, etc. They also have an Amish deli and local meats. It's one of our favorite places!
