Thank you so much for sharing this, I have listened to my father and grandfather telling me how farming was back then, it's great to actually be there just for a few minutes.

This restored video sure has a wealth of Historic Value to show the following Generations how crops were harvested with Real Horse Power and a lot of Manuel Labor. Farmers today still work long hours but most have Air Conditioned Large Tractors and many other Labor saving types of equipment. Farmers then and now keep food in our Grocery Stores, how fast we would starve without our Large Farms which feed Millions of People.

An excellent piece of film - Educational - demonstrates the labour required and the amount of moisture and nutrients used producing straw.

Great footage, I have an image of my grandfather ploughing with 3 horses, probably in the early 1930s. I wish it was a cine film.

They are making silage to feed cattle . The steam engine is running a chopper blower that chops the crop and blows it up a pipe and into the silo .

Crops look so much thicker a fuller back then. Seems like we get a pittance of what they got back then. I know crop yields have risen since then but it just looks more

NO - The grain is 'The Crop' NOT the straw which would be burnt if allowed. Since world war two plant Breeders have continually produced more varieties that produce less straw and more grain. Wheat yields in the UK, (on average), have increased from 2.3 tonnes per hectare in 1926 to just short of 10 tonnes per hectare in 2015,

@@davidhorn6008 I’m not on about the straw, I was on about a clip in the video of a man harvesting his crop and it looked a lot thicker than today’s crops. As I said, I know this isn’t true as crop yields have risen since then, it just looks more. Thank you for your comment.

This looks like north of England or Scotland to me, with the style of the horse harness. With lightweight harness with front of cart saddle turned up in a lip and that type of tipping cart. Varieties were a lot taller then, the sheaves would be hand tied after sail reaper had cut them, before the day of reaper binders. The whole crop was being put through a chaff cutter driven by Fowler traction engine. By the look of the building is this whisky production! If that’s right this would of been barley. What ever it’s a fantastic bit of film👌

@@thecinefilmfactory I am beginning to think this may be a crop of flax, grown to produce linen cloth. Though they did not appear to dry in sheaves in the field before processing. Unless someone can tell me different!🤔
