Glad you were able to get a fairly decent price for them in a bad market. Markets eventually bounce back, so I hope it's quick for you guys. My best to you and the awesome Toon!

Thanks mate. Only a 10% reduction in the herd's numbers, but it's a start. Hopefully the remaining 12 Bucklings can go in about 6 weeks.

I’m very impressed that you remember the names of all the goats there! So glad that you guys were able to sell some of them and hope that there will be more sales to be made in the future! Thanks again for sharing your wonderful journey at the farm & Hope Toon feels better from the hay fever!😊

Thank you Marietta. Yes it's a huge relief to finally be able to sell some goats. Fingers crossed that we can sell the other 12 Bucklings in a couple of months. I think we're both able to remember all their names because we spend so much time with the herd & talk with them.....a lot! Toon will likely continue to battle her hayfever symptoms until Thailand's winter season!

Thanks mate, 8 going is a reduction in the herd of 10% 2 more months & another 12 will be ready to go. That should give us about a 1 month breather before the next round of kidding begins.

You want to take control of the sale , only sell meat goats that are mature, fatten them up also , also sell smaller goats to a whole different clientele for different price, only sell the goats that you want to sell

Enjoyed the numbers obtained for your goats. Different to pigs I have farmed here except to say the margins are the same, slim to shite. As you said you must sell when the goat/pig is at a size that the market wants and not when the price is high. The equation to estimate profit is "Five eights of the square root of bugger all." Surprise, surprise the answer is still bugger all!

Brilliant lol. It's the first time we've seen a shift in animal size. Thank goodness we hadn't got any over 30kg or we'd be stuck again. 12-20kg was always the sweet spot for the best price & it's a quicker turn around. They put on the first 15kg so quickly,, unless they're twins.

Shame about the prices, but you have supplied a double banger cliffhanger. 1/ Did Dodger dodge a bullet?, 2/ Will Thor be a bit limp hooved, and like only boy goats?. Edge of your seat stuff for viewers. (Better than main stream TV series ) Good luck for the future.

It's been a bit of a roller coaster mate. Pre-covid the price was rising to new heights every couple of months. As for most, covid cocked things up, but straight after, another new high, then the crash over just a few months. If the same levels of demand return, the number of Thailand's goat farmers has reduced so much we could see a spike in price. Just gotta keep going & keep the faith mate.

Heartbreaking when seeing prices going down from 140 to 70. But you are strong and pull through I'm sure. I have a small pig farm in Isaan and some khaki cambell ducks. Ducks are hard work but they do bring in a bit of profit with my wife selling the eggs at 140 Baht a tray. Pigs went downhill same as your goats from 95 Baht last year to 60 now. Luckily everyone is eating pork around here so we have a couple pigs butchered each week and we sell the meat ourselves for 150 Baht a kilo thus turning a profit. Otherwise would be a solid loss. Wonder if your locals would be interested in goat meat? Maybe you could make a bit more profit that way?

Thanks for taking the time to write such a great comment. Not so long ago we looked at raising pigs. Spoke to a few experienced farmers, none of whom were positive about the situation. We'll stick with our herd & see it through. You're probably the same as Toon & I, in as much as once you've found your 'livestock calling' it's not easy to chop n change. Forget the expense, there's so much to learn. After several years its only recently that we feel like competent goat farmers. #KeepTheFaith 💪

Apologies for not responding earlier, you slipped through our comments net lol. Fingers crossed, now that we're managed to sell a few Bucklings for the first time in an age, things will gradually return to some degree of normality. However, we obviously from time to time have to cull animals in the herd (these days usually from fighting.) If you'd like to send me an email to leighgal71@gmail.com about goat meat for your dogs, we'll look into trying to source a refrigerated courier. We're a bit out in the sticks but we have Kerry & Fast so we're in with a shout 👍

Could you not slaughter your own and knock them out (ie sell them) Thailand wide via mail order? I haven't had goat for a very long time but I suspect it would be popular.

Great vid, thanks Leigh. Tough days mean tough decisions and you are a winner on the way for sure. You seem to be so attached to each animal that it must be an emotional trial to have to let them go... is that what I saw with Toon when they took them away? For the bucklings, could you not do as the beef industry does, and just de-nakker them so they are not a nuisance and just grow their bodies out for the meat value?
