You actually lost money doing what you did here. Just taking the loan would have put you in a better place. Keep everything you have, but sell the combine and header, crappy seeder and crappy cultivator. Buy a the seeder that Arthur recommended and buy a weeder. Also lease a bigger combine with a bigger header. The weeder will save you far more in fertilizer than you will save/make selling the original equipment. With the original 3 tractors, you can fully cycle all of your fields 3 times in 2 game days if you keep everything moving. Plant soybeans in all of your fields and sell at 1700-1800. Sell all of your crops that you have and stack up on soybeans for your first couple of harvests. Sell that and buy a bigger tipper, mower and liquid truck. Lease a bailer. Buy sheep. You are now self sufficient and can just make money every day and buy bigger and better things. The above process should take no more than 2-3 game days. I also never add to the loan and just pay it off over the first week or 2.

I discovered the goldmine directly east of the villa/farm you start out with on the expansion in the form of all those tall palm trees that require minimal trimming and the sawmill in close proximity. I cleared every single one out in that field ending at the dealership. Made at least $30k per Timber Runner load for a total well over $500k for some much needed cash. Screw using that crane-I just unstrap the load, unhitch the Timber Runner then knock the whole thing over in the unload box with my front loader. The Timber Runner even rights itself automatically when it empties!
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
hehe - I used to do that in 15. Just dump it over with a front loader and the right it again.

Also don't forget that leasing is an option if you don't have enough money
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
Yeah- especially on small equipment. Sadly on the larger stuff, the price is somewhat prohibitive.
@ram895726 жыл бұрын
Leasing can end up costing more money than you can make from your starting fields if you aren't careful though. I got myself inn a bind that way back when 17 first came out and had that feature. I basically got rid of all the starter equipment and leased a bunch of decent mid-range equipment and soon found the costs eating more money than I was making. Now I really don't lease anything and instead just buy what I can afford

The forage harvester is the best lawn mower. Equip the X Disc header and mow multiple lanes at once, while simultaneously collecting it in a massive trailer. No fancy windrowers, balers, or collecting wagons required. Just buy a forage harvester, the appropriate header, and a large tipper. If you want to make hay really quickly, dump your full trailer onto the ground and run over the pile with a tedder. You can equip a different header to "vacuum" up the grass on the ground back into a trailer. Regardless of how much you spend on premium mowing equipment, you will never beat the forage harvester for productivity, because you don't have to come back after you're done mowing to pick up the grass left on the ground. I also highly recommend this setup if you intend to get serious with raising cattle.
@kingarthursims5 жыл бұрын
While I agree that it makes a great mower there is one problem - there is no way to make hay as it sucks the grass up, so you still have to have regular mowers and a Tedder.

I was thinking the cheapskate approach to selling the bales. You grab a bale with the wrapper, drive over to the barn while it wraps, then unload the wrapped bale into the barn - maybe shunt the bale into the barn by ramming it with the tractor if you miss the unload point. Sure it takes a bit longer (maybe), but it saves the cost of a mechanical pick up trailer. Then add a chainsaw and trailer (or keep the starter trailer), and chop up trees while you wait for the grass to grow!!
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
There you go!
@agentorange1536 жыл бұрын
Or you could put a forklift on the tractor (as I do) and use that to transport the bales!

arthur, with domesticated grass in a field, you want to get a weeder and a fertilizer, as with domesticated grass (grass in a field as opposed to "wild" grass) fertilization state DOES AFFECT YIELD. NOTE: this applies ONLY to DOMESTICATED GRASS, it DOES NOT apply to wild grass, thus you want to keep that fertilization state maxed out at all times to get max yield.
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
Sure, but you don't have to have it at the outset. But you are correct - you do eventually need to fertilize grass, and a weeder is the best way to do it.
@thelowmein91435 жыл бұрын
My hardest challenge is how to get all the equipment needed for a no-bale cow farm, and enough cows to turn a profit without going broke. Your advice makes sense now, cows are endgame content lol.
@sheeplebarn3335 жыл бұрын
i disagree, a mower, a forage harvester, and a water tank and the small field to grow grass actually kicks up revenue fast. then you can ad to that a green house for daily revenue along with the milk. - in addition to that you get the manure and the slurry tanker and you don't need to worry about spending for fertilizer on your small starting fields - you don't need all the equipment to get started on dairy- maybe wait a couple weeks before buying the mixer - you take out the 300k and buy cows with it and just two pays off the daily interest in milk

Most people I've watched start by harvesting the fields they own, but on the default settings the fields are unplowed and unfertlised so you don't really get much. I always start a new map (without seasons) by setting fertliser to 1 stage and turning off ploughing required, then I fertilise all the fields i can harvest, *THEN* I harvest them and get a much bigger yield than if I'd just harvested them. Once the crops are in I set fertiliser and plowing back to the normal settings for playing forward.
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
Dude, that is hilarious - haha - totally cheats the system :)

Please keep in mind this a farm simulator. On our real life farm we bought a lot of used equipment at auction because you could buy it for cash. If you buy a new piece of equipment, you can only take out a three year loan on it. You can easily spend $250,000 on piece of equipment but you better have three profitable years to pay back the bank. ($83,000 per yer) In real life this is how people over extend themselves and go into bankruptcy. So don't knock old farm equipment. Yes. Can depreciate the new tractor over seven or more years but you still have to pay that loan off.
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
oh, I totally agree - this is not meant to be a tutorial on real farming. Only on the game. My friend has a huge 1970s case tractor. He had to drive 4 hours to get a part. I asked him why he doesn't buy a new one. Its obviously cheaper to keep the old one running. WAY cheaper.

You got it - for the game, the first thing is to plow (only needed once every 3 crop), then cultivate, then sew. Some cultivators plow too (subsoilers) so you can get both done in one pass, and some seeders (Like the vaderstadt wheat planter) cultivate as they seed, so you get both passes done in pass. That is why I recommended the vaderstadt as the seeder that you buy. Its a 2 in one.

A small tip for maps such as Sosnovka, American Outback, and other maps with grass lands if you want to do hay or silage bales you can and probably should plow to create fields their first. You will already have the plow rented and a seeder to replant grass. However if it is grass on an actual field you can fertilize it for the extra yield. This way you can also get a couple free fields, and with some of the grass lands on American Outback and Who Dat Who Der Ranch that are a decent size you can get quite a few free fields.
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
Good point, Once you plow and reseed you can get better yield out of "preexisting" grass fields.
@TheJadeStorm877 жыл бұрын
Yep, and if you no longer need it or want grass, cultivate and there you have a field. Then it only needs to be fertilized twice when doing 3 stages, and a weeder works for the first time it grows after mowing. I am currently playing on Who Dat Who Der Ranch and I turned a few of the fenced in grass lands into grass fields for hay bales, but I wasn't a fan of the sell point for the bales on the map so now I converted them into rather decent sized fields and it cost me nothing.
@kingarthursims7 жыл бұрын
Oh, I almost forgot that mowing counts as a fert pass.

What would you upgrade there with the extra money, if anything, (from the items you've chosen 10:30) if you had to pick one or two things? I'm talking about the roughly $70-80k total, the 30ish you currently have plus the extra 40k or w/e if you had sold the starting grains. Thanks in advance for your time. I just got this today. Been watching a lot of your vids, trying not to fail on day one. 🚜
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
For some reason your comment went into spam, so I just found it and rescued it. I would say that you could get the 38k weeder because it will give you "free" fertilization for one of your 3 stages. I would also pickup a flatbed trailer (the 12k bale trailer is perfect) so that you can transport seed and fertilizer back to the farm easily.

OH! you waited to long. You need to harvest it when its brown. If its gray, its dead. Always check your map for the growth status. On the pause map, when a field goes from green (growing) to yellow (ready), its time to harvest. If you leave it too long it will decay and die. @kingarthursims5 жыл бұрын
Some maps don't have a bale sell point Try loading them into the processor at the BGA instead. they you will get free slurry (digestate) and can use that as fertilizer.

Finally was able to get FS (chose 17 over 19 because it seemed to be something I didn't want to miss!) and I've been binging your videos as I play. Would you say your choices and selections here still hold up in 2019? Thank you for such awesome tutorials! I would be lost without you!

Hi Nady - 19 is actually very different - I am still figuring out the best "start your farm" setup. There are many new things that you must do in 19, like weeding and lime, that make the beginning equipment very different.

I just started FS 17 and I've spent 2 days trying to connect the 2 Potting and Lely together without any luck thus forth
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
The Lely's don't hook together. Only the 2 pottingers. You have to watch, because the pottinger dual mower can hook up 2 different ways to the tractor, but only one way to the front mower. if it doesn't work, turn it around and try again.
@trainmaster54686 жыл бұрын
Thanks, got them hooked together now and thank you for the info and keep up the great work on the videos.

One other tip for **STARTING A FARM** You will need to have the money cheat (don't worry, you aren't actually cheating). I try to bulk up or add a ton of trees before starting a new farm. Also, there will are now additional "sell points" that are available on PC and Console. (!!warning!! Unless the mod creator fixes it, the "Mill" doesn't add a new sell point on Sosnovka, West Bridge Hills, and any map where there is a point called "Mill". It is reading the file for the default sell point. I'm big on having maps with lots of options). Anyway, use the money cheat and get a tracked tractor and tree planter. You can get a little over 30 pallets at a time before the game says you need to plant before buying anymore. You will need a semi and flatbed trailer to carry the pallets. Now find open area or thin forests to thicken up. In some cases I will even cut a field in half or use the entire thing. (Only fields you start with). This is like clearing trees to start a whole new field. Now you have more variety for choices to start with doing. Selling woodchips will cause the price to drop so store them or just sell logs until the price comes back up. Also, if you are considering this it's because you use mods. There is a log sell point and chips sell point available even on consoles(as of now, one of each, maybe more later. PC already has many options for doing this.). This is even useful on logging only maps. Most have enough trees but I've seen a few that don't have the larger trees and forrest are a bit sparse. Hope this helped you to continue enjoying the game. Btw, one last thing. I am just starting on Westbridge Hills for the first time in 2017. I already set up everything ahead of time and am now up and running. I planted a bit over 3200 trees on the map. You can see this in your stats. I also didn't mention, but with mods, I also change the equipment that I start with. In most cases I either look for something older and smaller for the challenge. In a few cases I added somethings you may not start with but got rid of others. All of this was before starting. 3200 trees, driving in random patterns not rows took me about 4 maybe 5 total hours. It is tedious but worth it in the end. Don't make it so tedious you don't want to play after spending all that time to set up. Also, DONT FORGET to get your money back to the start point.

so I sell everything in the beginning and get the equipment to plant and get grass, then I sell everything again later on to buy the equipament to plant other stuff ? or do I keep the grass equipament and gradually buy the equipament to plant other stuff ? thanks a lot for the help bro

Oh, definitely keep the grass equipment!!! Not only can you continue making money selling silage bales BUT you will also be using it to feed your cows and sheep.

It will need to be replanted - the only crop that regrows is the new sugar cane crop included with the platinum edition.

I just started playing fs17 and I was wondering if when I use the harvester and I make it spray everywhere is that fertilizing the field or am I better off making bales
@kingarthursims4 жыл бұрын
In the game the spray does not count as fertilizer without a mod - so definitely bales.

Why not just change the plow option to off and the fertilization required for maximum yield to 1? That way you don't have to buy a plow and you aren't constantly having to fertilize. I just started on Ps4 and paid the bank loan off asap, and just used the default equipment which was a pretty fun grind. Made enough to buy the Valor and some land but debt free. Buying that sow you bought next
@heartlandmodding23155 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Alford a lot of people including myself play as realistic as possible. Plowing and fertilizing is necessary in real life farming.

You like red tractors? Good! I grew up with International Harvester on my Dad's farm. Sad such an iconic American company like that went bust back in '84 due to the horrid farm economy and the union strike that sealed their fate.

I remember liking their iconic truck/bus frame seen here - farm2.static.flickr.com/1018/1056343546_7b2f09a33e.jpg - The good news- I think International is still in business, but they just focus on trucks and busses. The tractor division is gone though :(

And back in the day when you bought an IH tractor it was 100% IH as they made their own engines, bearings, steel. We still have my grandpa's Farmall 'M' original engine, original pistons, never overhauled and still doesn't burn oil. I remember our school buses growing up were all IH. IH was recovering in '84 but when the union strike happened that finished them. I remember my Dad sadly telling me one day back in '85, "No more International." I used to love going with him on parts runs to the local IH dealer and sitting in the cabs of all the tractors and combines.

Is it not better to lease the equipment than buying them when money is short...???
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
Possibly. It can be if you can keep usage to an hour. lets say you rent a harvester and header - if you use them for a 2 hour harvest (which is about what it takes to harvest your 3 fields on goldcrest) it will cost you about 30,000 dollars to harvest 40,000k of crops... Ouch. Not much profit, but its up to you. Renting a plow would be not a bad thing though.

How can you tell how much HP is needed from a tractor for your equipment?
@kingarthursims6 жыл бұрын
When you go into the shop menu, and then look at each piece of equipment, at the bottom it tells you how much HP it requires, down near the price. It also tells you what kind of crops it can harvest/carry and how much it costs per day to maintain it.
