I really enjoy your lessons!...I have to divide an enormous 30+ year old clump I took from my parent's house. The bulbs seriously weigh 10-15 lbs and have bloomed nonstop no matter how poorly I have treated them, LOL. I'm going to incorporate these in my landscape remodel and plant them in the ground so they can ramble...

That's very helpful! Thank you! My crinum is huge and very healthy, although it freezes in the winter here in southern Kyushu, Japan. It is bright green and very happy. I wonder if I can divide it now, or it I should wait for it to die back in the winter?

I've been wondering what to do with mine! We have several patches, but one is so big, and the leaves are so long, that I had to build a make-shift fence around it this year to keep them upright. Next project acquired!

THANK YOU! Mine is years old and now crowded - it hasn't bloomed in 2 yrs. I was searching for how to break it up. (South Carolina)

How old was the clump of rhizomes?
@lushlifebulbs85314 жыл бұрын
Those were single bulbs about the size of a soft ball planted three years ago.

Hi jenrks, do you carry crinum latifolium plant?

No I sure don't. Sorry.

I'm in west central Alabama and I need to divide the crinum. Can I do this early fall or should I wait until spring or does it matter.
@lushlifebulbs85316 жыл бұрын
Kind of depends on species -- if it's a cold hardy one, you can do it now. If it's something like C. jagus or C. asiaticum, I'd wait till spring.

@@lushlifebulbs8531 thanks, it is cold hardy, so I have began to start dividing, they have really grown and produced. Its hard, lol

I see your spade leading edge is flat; when do you choose that vs one that is curved?
@farmlush6 жыл бұрын
I prefer a flat spade -- it's useful for trenching. Also when cutting and dividing I feel I have more control. But more important to me than shape is that this a heavy duty, angled in weld between handle and blade.
@farmlush6 жыл бұрын
I chose by the quality of the spade, these are King of Spades. But I feel like I have better control with a flat blade.

What time of year do you do this?
@lushlifebulbs85314 жыл бұрын
In our climate, US Zone 8, we do it all year. But in general, crinum like to be divided when the soil is warm.

So with no bulbs, - for instance, you accidently cut a pup off,- this pup is going to die, right? Even in water? It's not pushing roots in water?..
