The wind was raging on Monday this week here at Farnborough, blowing in gusts of up to 35 knots across the runway from a direction of anything from 015 degrees to 40 degrees. Runway 06 (60 degrees) was in operation and apart from nearly blowing me over once or twice, certainly created some interesting landing opportunities!
Here is a selection of arrivals and departures, starting with:
07 Voluxis Bombardier Global 6500 G-JCAN arriving from Los Angeles - showing clearly in the final approach the angle of the wind and the crosswind landing technique - a big boot of rudder just before touchdown to align it with the prevailing runway direction.
15 Mitsubishi Challenger 850 Air X Charter - 9H-CLG. These aircraft always seem to have a very "nose down" approach on finals - more clearly shown in this angle!
50 Gama Aviation Gulfstream G280 G-JSNS arriving from Jersey - making lots of small adjustments to maintain the localiser.
29 Bombardier Challenger 300 SE-RMA SVENSKT INDUSTRIFLYG departing to Paris as callsign Tradewind 3. Winds gusting to 35 knots from 40 degrees at this point in filming.
11 VP-BUG. Bermuda registered Falcon 7X. A rare visitor. Departing to Luxembourg. Winds from 20 degrees - gusting to 35 knots. Nearly blew me over standing trying to hold the camera steady!
04 Vistajet Germany Embraer Legacy 500 D-BEER - departing to Palma de Mallorca.
03 M-SCMG Isle of Man registered Falcon 7X arriving from Nice.
53 9H-XONE Tyrolean Jet Services Falcon 7X arriving from Payerne.
40 Sun Air Challenger 350 LN-MDT arriving from Oslo - winds strengthened again!
