If you go the cutting board route, try gluing planks together. You could also use the wood to make wooden park bench.

Yeah he said someone said that Hickory does not make good cutting boards. Well all I can say is whoever said that don’t know what they’re talking about because Hickory is harder wood than oak. Hickory has been used for ax handles & shovel, rake, sledgehammer, hammer 🔨, and practically every tool that can take a wooden handle. And Hickory has been used hundreds of years for tools ⚒ so that Wood can take the abuse. So whoever told Dutch that they don’t make good cutting boards certainly does not know much about wood. 😂

Hello Sean sorry to see all the trees down on the trails, your pond is looking good also ! I love the puppy dogs Gracie, Gabby & little Lilly they love being with dad! They don't want to miss anything lol! I just love Lilly she thinks she is a big dog😍 I also have a yorkie ❤ she is good company. So glad the well house didn't get taken out by the tree & thank God that the camper & the canopy + the house made it thru all the wind & all. Two more Happy dances that the house had roof windows & doors in. Also the animals made it thru it all. The kunes getting stuck priceless. 🇦🇺My mum had what she called breakfast boards with a handle that had a hole in it, for toast/sandwiches. They fitted onto dowel that was part of a T post attached to a larger board.

You might be able to put a chain around the stump, raise it up with the skid steer and shake the dirt out of the roots to get rid of it.

Shan what you should try to do is all those branches and trees that are pulling out of the paths and everywhere Maybe a chipper would help you could use all that wood chippings into the pigpen that’ll take up some of that water and it’s good for ground cover in the property so maybe a chipper shredder would be a good thing to have

I like how you're not getting down with all that's going on after the storm. Atleast you'll be able to use the whole tree for something or other. I'm glad you put up the dogs so they wouldn't get hurt. It's great you got minimal damage and hopefully others faired as well. Kevin and Rachael can use those branches with the leaves on them for their goats.

Hey, consider making bowl blanks. That hickory smells so sweet when turning on lathe. Split down the center/pith. As tall as it is wide. Woodturning guild would love to have them. I know I WOOD!

Maybe floating shelves in your house from the Hickory tree. I am glad you are milling some of it... Some of your history of your homestead and what you all have gone through.

Use a couple of strips of black duct tape to hold the feeder lid shut. Dud you find out if it was a low level tornado or straight winds. How far around you was there damage? You could make a couple of benches for your yard out of that Hickory or use some as trim on the well house.

Parts of that tree might be about the right size to make round serving platters out of. Round live edge serving platters. Or you could cut them at an angle and make longer serving platters. Instead of 90 degree cuts for round platters, 60 degree cuts for longer oval platters. Just tossing out some ideas. I've seen some really nice oblique cut oval wood platters, with live edges.

You should know too, from working on the highway clearing, that a hold down strap tied to a piece of twine will not work. Failure...lol The pond looks great, and yes, Pearl and Percy almost ripped their shelter apart exiting at the same time. Lol 😆 🤣 Love ya'll ❤️
