Don't forget, Rigel is hundreds of years old and lived most of that as a child of priveledge and royalty, then spent 100 years imprisoned. This is the first time he's ever experienced true freedom and friendships. What the writers have done very well so far imo, is that he is slow to recognize that, but he's starting to. Don't fool yourself, he cares more for this crew than he has ever cared for anyone else. He just doesn't know how to show it.

If you're starting to notice some similarities between Farscape and Guardians of the Galaxy, like the Budong in this episode and the Head of the Ancient visited in GotG, it's not a coincidence. James Gunn has openly stated that Farscape was an inspiration and Ben Browder makes a cameo in GotG2 in gold paint doing his peacekeeper voice.
@redrick8900Ай бұрын

Not my favorite episode but I love learning about the nuances of the different species of our crew. Like Zhaan’s spores and growths are clearly a holdover in evolution from the time her ancestor species were stationary plants. If her ancestors’ soil wasn’t supplying enough nutrients they couldn’t move so they’d release these spores in order to have the area’s fauna die so the decomposition would nurture the soil, but now they just come out whenever she’s malnourished and it brings out a more predatory nature in her. It’s so cool!

I really wish they had said she needed nitrogen rather than protein! Venus fly traps trap flies for their source of nitrogen… not for protein, and I feel like that would have made more sense. I know your intentions are benevolent and friendly, but it's my guess Angela would not react well to pressure to put more viewing on her plate. She's got work, she's got a fiancé, she's got a right to some 'me' time. You probably don't see it as a big deal, a one-time thing, but if she gives in on this, the sand castle crumbles as everyone else wanting her to watch their show redoubles with imagined offense taken if she says no, because there has to be a personal reason she said yes to one and no to all others, right. And the worst possible reason, it's gotta be. I get it, there's stuff I want her to watch, too. But you have to realize there comes a point where even if you think she'll benefit from the experience, it's not taking into account how this looks from the other side of the conversation. And I feel for you...one of fandom's commandments is 'Thou'lt shall recommend and share The Good Stuff.' But I've shut up more recently because recommending things might actually not be any good to her actually see them. I see from her own schedule she decides, and that her interests do not often ally with my own. And that's just how it is. Anyhow, if I've offended I apologize in advance, I meant no disrespect. But I wanted to forestall an exchange that over several days would have been progressively more temperamental and less illuminating. So I thought I'd lay it all out in one post. And then you'd have your say (if you wanted one) and that would be it. Apologies for the length of this, and have a good weekend.

A typical Farscape-ism, is to use words spelled backwards to create names. Just like with 'Namtar' or 'Mle' (Ratman (DNA Mad Scientist), we have Pissog, (Gossip). Sometimes the names mean a little something, sometimes, it just looks like a case of 'writer's block'.

Even though John and Chiana didn't have many scenes together in this episode, it goes a long way towards explaining what the dynamic of their relationship is. Chiana has trust issues, and uses her sexuality as a tool to survive. Chiana flirts with John to try and control her situation. John is a good man who isn't out to screw her (in either sense of the word) and Chiana doesn't know how to handle genuine kindness. She kind of alternates between flirting with him to try and keep him at arms length, and flirting with him because she doesn't know another way show him that she appreciates him. For John's part, Chiana is kind of like a close friend's kid sister. Her flirtations are amusing, but she's too young and too much trouble to consider a serious romantic prospect.

I am reminded of commentary from the making of the classic Doctor Who episode, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, where they asked the prop master to make a giant rat monster for the sewers, they couldn't give him much time or budget, and the prop master said "Ok, but you have to promise me that the audience will never actually be able to SEE it." Spoiler - It turns out, the audience was able to SEE it. I quite like this episode. For me the highlights are very clearly the interactions between Aeryn and Zhaan, and between D'Argo and Chiana. John gets to be action-boy, and Aeryn really puts in the work.
