Oh my goodness-somehow I neglected to mention the differences in the solo modes between these two games! In Everdell, you play against Rugwort who simply plays a card every time you do (determined by the roll of a D8), claims events, and blocks spaces. 🐀 Rugwort is extremely easy to manage and the solo rules only take up two pages! In Farshore, you play against Bonny Redclaw who has her own deck of cards and places workers based on the locations shown on that card. 🦀 In addition, Bonny has a plan card that prioritizes certain colors to allow her access to the map tiles more quickly and depending on the difficulty level there are also weather cards that negatively impact your gameplay (but not hers). The Farshore solo rules take up five pages and are much more involved than in regular Everdell so that'll be something to consider if you're a solo gamer! Don't forget you can check out my solo playthrough for Farshore (link in the description) to get a better idea of how Bonny Redclaw plays! ☺

This is very similar to Nightweave from the Mistwood expansion. Every aspect of Farshore is taken from and slightly adjusted from base Everdell or one of its expansions. The ship path and the weather challenges are from Spirecrest. I also find Farshore weaker in that you can only use 3 locations maximum to recruit in 3 critters maximum with your 3 anchors. That is one of my favorite Everdell mechanisms. 😊

Thank you for your insightful comment, Randall! It does seem like Farshore borrowed some of the best elements from the Everdell expansions although I have limited experience since I've only ever played with Newleaf and Mistwood! Spirecrest seems really interesting to me-it's probably the one I'd most want to play right now! 🫎 And it does feel extra satisfying when you pull off a chain in Everdell (occupy token) since it's more of a feat than the anchor bonus in Farshore! Same with the events in Everdell, too! Do you prefer Everdell over Farshore, then?

@@BoardGameDave Personally I prefer Everdell. I have the complete collection. Plus a copy of the collector’s edition of Everdell for portability sake. :)

@@randalladkins7452 Wow!! The Collector's Edition and the Complete Collection?! You are a die-hard Everdell fan!! 🤩

Great B roll! Looks amazing. ☺️ Thank you for confirming what I already suspected.

Thank you so much, Lisa!! 😌 What had you already suspected, if you don't mind my asking? (That Farshore is so similar to Everdell that you don't need to add it to your collection?) 🙊
@lisahasegawa2674Ай бұрын
@@BoardGameDave Yes, exactly! I suspected my enormous box of what I *thought* was everything Everdell is more than enough. Don’t need no stinkin’ Everdell Duo either! ☺️

Oh my goodness, you’ve got the Complete Collection?! Yes, I think you probably have enough Everdell to last a lifetime! 📦 (I believe I’ve got Everdell Duo coming sometime next year… what if I tell you it’s a must-buy to add to your collection?) 😉

@@BoardGameDave I guess I would have to ditch the complete collection! Hahahaha

I kind of wish that Farshore was just another expansion for base Everdell. Would be much more likely to get it.

I haven’t heard that take but it’s an interesting one! They could have definitely pulled that off! Maybe a new main board, a bunch of nautical cards to shuffle in, etc.? But it seems they wanted to go in a completely new direction with these “Edges of the Map” standalone games! 🤔

Great job. An excellent tool for deciding whether to buy or not.

@@BoardGameDave I've played Everdell. I also found it a little long for my liking. The gameplay was fine. Tableau building is not my favorite. The theme would really need to hook me more to want to invest that much time. Evil Jeff is going to make me play it though, because he has the giant edition and wants to get it to the table. Maybe another play will kindle a spark.
@BoardGameDaveАй бұрын
Yeah, it can go a little long for sure-Hannah and I played Farshore tonight and even with it just being the two of us it took us a little over an hour! Not that that's "long" by any stretch... just maybe a tad longer than it needs to be? 🤔 Maybe you'll like it more when you play with Evil Jeff! Maybe throw an expansion into the mix? I really like Newleaf! 🚂
@randalladkins7452Ай бұрын
New Leaf is a great expansion! 😊. Mistwood gives some great alternative Farm cards and a better solo mode! Plus, play as spiders with their asymmetric character card! 😊
@BoardGameDaveАй бұрын
Newleaf is awesome! Love all the little elements it adds to the game! 🚂 And you're right about the Mistwood solo mode-certainly provides a more human-feeling opponent! 🕷️ Are you supposed to play with those asymmetric abilities? I had never considered that but it's a very interesting idea!
