It's all about control. Gov't hasn't been about the people for more than 60 years, probably more than 100 years really. The foundations for what we have today were a long long time ago. Risk taking is not the main thing. Being right and making it happen are the main things. Making it happen sometimes means taking a necessary well reasoned risk.
@timwildauer50638 күн бұрын
But “making it happen” isn’t a guarantee. It costs tons of time and money and effort to make it happen, and if you can’t get the right people together in the right environment to make it happen, it’s a massive loss. You can say it’s not risk, it’s just a skill issue, but no one knows how much skill it will take. Look at FSD that was supposed to be solved 5 years ago. The rest of the company has become so profitable that they’ve bought a lot more time to solve the problem, but it was definitely a risk, and you could easily argue it wasn’t a well reasoned risk. It seems like it will still pay off, but at the beginning it wasn’t well reasoned because it’s taking astronomically more effort than they imagined.
@richiehart78587 күн бұрын
@ Hello Tim. I agree with everything you have said. One of the (possible the one and only) most impressive things about Elon is that he works the issue to the point where he is as sure as he can be that the next step is necessary, evaluates the risks of that step, then accepts the risk and makes the decision to proceed. If he did not do all of these things competently many of those risks taken would defeat his goals and possibly ruin him financially. It is very easy to take a risk, but chronically doing so and so frequently surviving them is almost impossible. You're right, FSD is a great example of a risk taken having had much higher costs than originally expected. There are many others. Three at SpaceX are vertical tanks, no flame trench and ceramic heat shield tiles.

Alex Honnold the rock climber seems very similar to Elon, with their relationship with fear. They might be on the spectrum, very high functioning of course, and that might help them minimize fear and let them get on with their high ambitions unobstructed as compared to many other people. Alex 3000' up on a sheer cliff without a rope smiling having a good time. Elon doing what he says while others do not and just talk.

What is up with the nonstop Story Blocks bullshit? I had to check part way through to see if this was actually the Farzad channel. If it's not a chart or a clip of the thing being discussed, just DON'T. We don't need any more clips of people crowded around a display pointing at things, or clips a someone counting 100 dollar bills because some said "millions of dollars", or some old guy in a suit talking to an interviewer because someone said CEO. Just STOP IT.

I have had several Tesla shares and a Cybertruck on order. It would be great to get more shares but that's still work in progress. It would also be great if people were not trying to steal my existing shares. Due to the fact that covid caused inflation and caused most purchases to double over the past few years. It looks like the Cybertruck has close to doubled as well since I ordered it back then. I will have to come up with some creative financing! Hopefully I can come up with a good plan to put it in the driveway by this year.

As brilliant and successful as Elon is there's one thing that he doesn't seem to understand is that human nature will always self destruct. Regardless of whether you drive an electric car or send a rocket full of humans to Mars.

To many of us who KNOW in a very short time all these displaced (fired) people who have been earning their livings on the backs of AMERICA's taxpayer (yes, I know they pay taxes as well) will be out of work and looking for their next job. Where AND WILL they go to work??

Elon is not afraid to fail, that's what her understands about risk.
@ChrisBrengel8 күн бұрын
Elon doesn't have a different understanding of risk than other people, he just has a feel of how incredibly brilliant he is (at certain things, especially engineering) and so he is not taking as much of a risk as normal people would be.

Has anyone ever thought he doesn't actually understand risk but somehow he can tap into something that provide him with the proper risk analysis his competitors lack?
@valeriemarkham61333 күн бұрын
He has no understanding of the concept (of risk) --- his ego is so massive it doesn't enter his head as being applicable to him. Having so much money - he thinks -- will protect him from anything the world can throw at him. He is wrong of course. It is entirely possible that the money supplies will dry up, or at least lessen sufficiently to prevent his wildly imaginative extravagances and no-one will invest in his whims or bail him out with goodwill. Humans do not need to go to Mars while there are so many needy, poverty-stricken, sick and hungry people here on Earth. Charity begins at home.

Elon read a thousand tons of books as a child and teen. He absorbed information from many many scientists and also from their science fiction stories. These scientists had done so much of the footwork for Elons companies. He literally made their dreams come true. Read Heinliens juvenile fiction to see Starbase Space X or Asimov's robots to see Optimus. Elon like Newton is literally standing on the shoulders of giants. This is how he knows the direction to go. Analyst's who did not absorb and digest a huge volume of SF just can't comprehend this world view.
