Great update thanks guys! Lovely haul of Shellfish & Fish, especially those Pollack. Nice underwater footage too. Looks like your weather has been much the same as ours - glorious sunshine, then piddling down! Great to see that Octopus, and good to see it go back. Lots going on here so a bit behind with KZbin again - must try harder! Stay safe & well. 👍👍

Hi Troj what is the ruling about taking Pollack.?
@Trojwaterman7 ай бұрын
Licenced boats have a by-catch allowance. Unlicensed boats I do not know the ruling

Watch your videos all the time , growing up in Hastings/ st Leonard's would fish the old Hastings pier & beaches, the professional fishermen would kill & dump spider crabs , I would catch a few in my prawn drop nets & take them home , I was surprised u let a lobster & crabs worst nightmare go thay r good eating, Rebecca is a great deckhand. Happy catching from Australia Nick

I have heard that before about the spider crab which is crazy as its one of the best tasting crab. In about a month it wont be very nice though as it goes out of season after mating and shedding shells. We don't see many octopus and I like them so am happy to let them go. Its like seals and dolphins I don't mind them either they all need to feed themselves plus I can still catch fish when they are around In fact it just shows the fishery is healthy or they would move on :)

Hi, I'm Italian, I have a question for you, why don't you keep octopuses when you find them in pots? Are they banned? In the Mediterranean Sea they are highly appreciated in the kitchen. Thank you

@Trojwaterman7 ай бұрын
We don't tend to see the roe. I have only seen it very early in the year but we don't tend to fish that early now. I find a lot of roes are similar. One roe that is awful is pike they are like marbles :)

Generally, we don't have that brand ,or style of boat here in West Aus,ours are more styled around runabouts,unless I'm wrong yours appears to be styled around the old wooden Clinkerbuilts
@Trojwaterman7 ай бұрын
They do have the clinker style pattern. They are very seaworthy boats we have just over 10 meter tides here and storms that come in off the Atlantic with huge swells. They have to be able to handle that even if just when on the mornings, The dinghy is a 12ft tinny nice and light to get on and off the trailer.

The chap who does the fish locker videos has a simple device for returning blown swim bladder fish .
@Trojwaterman7 ай бұрын
Puncturing the swim bladder will make the fish sink but it wont be able to regulate its depth or be able to stop swimming so it will most likely die. The biggest problem is the dissolved gases in the fish they can cause massive damage to tissue blood vessels and internal organs such as the brain when the fish has come up too quick from the deeper water . Often you will see the fish's eyes bursting out of its head. Simply puncturing the swim bladder wont fix this but it will sink and make everyone think the fish swam away.
@boatfishingscottyano7 ай бұрын
A funny thing happened last year. We had a wrasse that couldn’t go back because his swim bladder was hanging out. A seagull was after it and it pecked the bladder and the fish swam away the gull was looking around thinking where has it gone😂😂

Yes octopus are delicious but most British seem not to like them so much. But a delicacy in Greece, Italy, Spain etc

Yes I have seen divers tenderising them on the rocks in Greece when I was over there.

Octopus looked like a good eating size plus possibly a non native species so should have been harvested
@Trojwaterman7 ай бұрын
My grandparents plus a lot of the older generation used to go foraging for them here. The winter of 63 pretty much wiped them out but now they seem to be making a comeback. For now we let them go but if we get overrun with them then we may consider taking them for food.
