It has been so obvious to me that fascism is now in power in Russia. All the signs are there. The USA just barely escaped the clutches of fascism in January 2021. Our democratic institutions held, but just barely. Will they hold again in 2024? Defending democracy against fascism is so tiring; every election seems like it might be the last. We must not give up.

Great work, especially I liked Part 2. Parallels and similarities are there and they were there before but the invasion of Ukraine and all that happened and is happening in Russia since made it crystal clear. Yes Russia has become fascist authorian dictatorship with fascist aggressive militaristic ideology. Not a slightest doubt about that. One thing which I didn't see enough emphasis on though is the differences between fascist and nazi ideology. The latter appeared and developed after Italian fascism and borrowed a lot from it adopting it to the German reality. However one and probably most important difference between classic fascism and nazsim is the racial superiority both on individual and nation level. This was the core of the Nazi propaganda while Italian fascism put in middle the state as core value and that every individual should serve the State to the best of his abilities. Fascism was not so racist in the beginning. Only during the war Italy and some other minor fascist regimes, allies of Hitler under pressure from Nazi Germany adopted some racist elements. But racial superiority and racism were never really that popular and accepted by Italian people for example as they were in Nazi Germany. Putin's modern fascism also avoids to emphasize racial superiority and racial evolutional conflict as a core of its "historical crusade". This is probably because Russia is multiracial, multiethnic and multi religious country unlike Nazi Germany and going this path could be very dangerous for the regime in Kremlin. The one flaw of this great documentary I find the absence of comparison with Mussolini's fascim in Italy which is predecessor of the Nazis and probably even more similar to what happened to Russia under Putin.

Even during Stalin's rule, soviets (workers councils) played a major role in nation's life, promoting initiatives that would benefit the working class. Putin, on the other hand, COMPLETELY removed every way for people to influence Russia's politics. Comparing Putin and Stalin is just... unfair.

This is a very important comparison, I too had noticed the similarity between Nazis and Putin's current regime. Sadly I also think that, in the early days of Putin as president, he did want to move towards democratic ideals but was overcome by his own, and others, greed for influence, power and money. Putin now epitomises those very traits he condemns.

Some similarities but the Chinese government has so far proven to be less aggressive and more reasonable. They do have nationalistic socialism with an authoritarian leader and developing cult of personality. I don’t believe China has any plans beyond Taiwan though.
