Love love LOVE these kinds of videos!! I watched your older one on the detailed design of shirts and was hoping you'd make more of those kinds of breakdown videos, so I'm thrilled to see it for jeans now. Excited to see what else comes out of this series, and thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with us!

Great informational Video! I hope all jean designers watch it! After two years of wearing athleisure, I was excited to buy my first new pair of high waisted jeans (so tired of low rise). Only to find out the company used a 5” zipper, probably overstock from their previous styles! I liked the fit of the jeans and luckily because I can sew and I put in a longer zipper. I’m sure most other pairs were returned because they would not go over the hips. Another good front pocket tip for dressier jeans with a more flattering cut, is to angle the front pockets down and not as wide out- making hips that need to look slimmer, look slimmer! Excited to see more videos like this!

Great video as always... I wish this came out 2 months ago when I made jeans for the first time! Ugh, I love how you discussed all the different elements like back pocket stitching and how it affects the branding and style. You didn't mention this but one of my favorite design elements is how Lucky Brand jeans have a patch that says "Lucky You" under the fly, so you can read it when you open up the zipper.

Hi Zoe, I hope you’re well. Question; what’s your thoughts on fashion show venues. Are they important? Does it matter where it is if the garments are beautiful?? Should they match the theme etc?? Thought your input would help solve a mystery abs be a cool vid 🤗
@zoehongteaches2 жыл бұрын
Eh, not the most important. In order it's 1. amazing clothes 2. venue logistics like enough seats, air conditioning or heating, accessibility, good space for crew 3. music to convey mood and energy and then 4. the aesthetics of the venue. Venue aesthetics/theme are very cool and can add to the experience but other things are more important.

This is super useful, thank you so much. I don't wear jeans. I don't wear trousers at all. I'm fully a skirts and dresses kinda person. But I do want to start a line of adaptive clothing, and jeans are popular. It was a really interesting exercise to go through and think of what I'd need to do to make a pair of jeans useful to me, comfortable to me. That's actually one reason I don't wear them - they're not comfy to wear when sitting in a wheelchair for long periods. So I was thinking of having more room in the seat (because there really is nothing worse than a perma wedgie), more room in the thighs so you don't have circulation cut off, a way to make pockets accessible and usable from a seated position. A magnetic button closure, maybe? One that still looks like your average jeans closure from the outside, but that is something those without great fine motor control or hand strength can do up themselves. High rises tend to be more comfortable for sitting, wide legs are both comfy and look cool. And I still need to give thought to aesthetics, because that's the entire point of my hypothetical future line- for disabled people to be able to access clothes that fit aesthetics that they like, to not be locked out of fashion into muumuus and pyjamas made out of polyester stretch. Tommy Hilfiger is the ONLY designer I've seen doing good adaptive clothing (seriously, the situation is dire!) But if you don't go for that Tommy Hilfiger yacht club look, what then? You're stuck with leaf backed stretch t shirts and clothing that is abysmally low quality, with no style to speak of, for a premium price. It's a sad state of affairs when a designer can charge designer prices, and have that just be the average price for the entire industry. Being disabled is EXPENSIVE! Anyway, cutting myself off before I write an essay length rant. Thanks for the video, it's super useful and I might design myself a pair of jeans to see what works. You never know, I might actually be able to wear jeans if I'm the one designing them to be comfortable and to actually meet my needs and style. Also, as a former raver, you're tight. JNCOs are just denim palazzo pants. Awesome denim palazzo pants!
@zoehongteaches2 жыл бұрын
I have a dear, close friend who uses a wheelchair full time and we've had lots of conversations about adaptive fashion, esp since they are so into clothes and fashion. I really should do an adaptive fashion video soon. I encourage you to start an adaptive line, the market is RIPE for it, as you say, and is in desperate need of some cute things. Good luck!

i'm interested to know your opinion, do you think the patch pocket will eventually be phased out since cash and coins are becoming less and less common for people to carry??
@zoehongteaches2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it will be phased out completely. People didn't always use those pockets for coins either, because they're so small and unwieldly. I've heard them used for condoms these days.

Thanks so much for this Zoe! I used to hate jeans because as a teen I could never find jeans that fit (2000s low rise jeans were a legit self esteem killer for a tall girl with big hips and an S-curved back, thanks Alexander McQueen 😭) and I was so envious of my friends who would just have 5 or 6 pairs of jeans.. but now that I sew and design my own clothes I can finally understand why jeans didn't fit me back then and make as many revenge jeans as I please ☺️ Looking forward to the rest of this series!

Do all brands use the that rule of 10in difference between hip and waist? My problem with jeans is that they all fit too loose on the waist. It is less of a problem with low waist jeans, but I don't like them low. I know there are some brands that have "curvy sizes", where the difference is like 13in between hip and waist. But there are also other brands where "Curvy" is used to refer to bigger sizes, so its hard to find what I want.

@@zoehongteaches Thanks for the reply, I know this is a bit out of the context of this video, but I've been looking into several brands and their size charts, and they all have 10 or 9 in difference. Do you have any recommendations of brands that have a bigger difference? Or how to look for them? I can't even find the right keywords to get there 😩
