Check out Etsy for buttons too! You could use the shank buttons if you put a tiny slit in the felt and put shank through there. Could also sew the chain to the felt through the button holes using an interesting thread. I would then add another layer of felt to keep back very neat looking.

It looks pretty but if you look at it up close it look messy with the glue showing through the holes. This is better done sewing.

i just want to give a tip to all the DIYers out there if u have a button with a loop on it just take a pare of pliers or wire cutters and cut it off
