I wanted to share a sad but fun story and memory about Victor Costa I learned recently. My family just came to visit for the holidays and it was my grandmothers first time coming to visit us in Idaho. I was showing her our house tour and she was looking in my closet and came across a jacket that is one of his designs that I actually inherited from another family member not too long ago. My Nana told us that she went on a date with him ages ago! I just thought that was so cool! Sadly, the next day after my family arrived, she passed very unexpectedly but we had such a fun and special day hearing her tell all these old stories of her youth and I’ll cherish those moments forever. She loved the finer things and all things style and fashion, and was an amazing decorator and has given me so much inspiration throughout my life ❤️

I couldn't agree with you more in terms of how long an item has been in a person's closet. There are items that I've had in my closet FOR YEARS and I'm just now getting around to wearing them for the first time. If it doesn't suit my preference or doesn't fit well, then of course I'll purge it. Otherwise, it's the items that make up my personal wardrobe particularly as a maximalist. So if it isn't damaged, ill-fitting, or no longer suit my preference, IT STAYS. Also, YES... KUDOS to the ORIGINAL Dynasty fashion style which is also part of my personal style preference and influence especially for the glam with the furs and sequin and evening gowns to the secretarial looks for the office/board room... LOVE IT.

Hi I’m so happy to see you back! I’m 70 and I love your style! Sometimes I’m shy about going out in my style which is very much like yours. I love color and prints not boring drab clothes. My husband of 49 years says just go for it who cares you look great. Am I too old?
@sofiavlasova43339 ай бұрын
You are old enough to wear whatever you want. Not that the right of wearing someting is linked to an age but at the age of 70 you have experienced so many styles, people and whateverthat you can tell what you feel comfortable in. So please, go for it! ❤ Sending love

I 100% agree with your husband - WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! I’m sure you have an amazing wardrobe and it’s a reflection of you. Definitely check out Advanced Style as he features women over 65 and it’s one of my favorites!

LISTEN TO YOUR HUSBAND 😀. I can confidently say that the privilege of being in your 70's (though I'm in my 40's) is outside opinion in terms of your personal style (or anything else for that matter)doesn't matter because you dress for yourself (and for your husband to admire 😉) and not to suit other people's taste. Look at it this way, do you think Iris Apfel cares about what other people think about her style? She's over 100 years old, marches to the beat of her own drum, and is a style inspiration for me and I'm for others as well. HAVE FUN... BE TRUE TO YOUR OWN STYLE. Let the onlookers admire or not get it...and it's ok, they don't have to get it because everyone's style is not going to be for everybody. C'est la vie and live and let live.

Honestly, my primary style goal in terms of my wardrobe began in late 2023 in preparation for 2024 and that was to simply shop my closet more and start to make use of my wardrobe. I've had so much fun and time building my massive wardrobe that has accumulated over the years and still have so much to wear as it is so I have purged throughout last year and did a final purge the weekend of New Year's and now I am just being more selective and more particular with what I purchase these days. Nevertheless, my personal style has always reflected the original Dynasty, a touch of the original Dallas, dated/classic looks, looks that are influenced by the mod era of the 60's, the 70's overall, and retro looks/some over-the-top style (Contempo Casual and Urban Outfitters and Wilson's Leather vibe). So... I am truly in my element all the time and having fun.

Lately I have been loving mixing preppy aesthetic (vintage Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, LL Bean, Pendelton) with funky and/or girly boho or athleisure wear. Loving the contrast--argyle sweater vest with cheetah palazzo pants for example.

Okay playing catch up... hello four kiddos... BUT LOVED this video so much! I am literally in a huge PURGE phase of closet/style right now- I just took a car FULL to Goodwill this weekend. I couldn't take the clutter anymore, an avid lifelong thrifter, and style lover and the fashion amasses over the years...Felt AMAZING to thin it out...Two minutes in and I had to pause and order more black velvet hangers seeing yours, and a shoe rack my sons broke recently, and I resumed to see the BEST outfit salad in the sweatshirt with strappy sandals and plaid shorts- a very Annette look- your legs! An acquaintance recently told me she was completely obsessed with the OG Dynasty and while I knew the references I really didn't KNOW as I was too young to see it then, so I am actually watching series now. I don't know Salt Burn- I have heard the name but am working through Dynasty now hahaha. ANYWAY As for MY style aesthetic for 2024...to stay true to MYSELF and what I have learned WORKS for my body and makes ME happy, never followed trends too closely... And to actually let GO of more into the universe...I have been good about only bringing IN things I will truly wear and love, but I have more to shed... I would also love to save for a designer vintage handbag for myself someday... that may bleed into 2034 if we're being honest hahhah... Loved the video! And those Missoni sweats!

I just recently discovered crossroads, and they haven't disappointed the 3 times I've been there. I absolutely loved the beaded shawl and the red/black dress. My fashion goal this year would be to learn how to better style my more unique pieces.

Whaaat.. you scored Missoni sweatpants for 24$? I definitely need some of that good karma. I stumbled upon Allison Bornstein's 3-Word method last year, which really helped to define my style, but I definitely want to kick things up a notch this year, generally just have more fun. So I'm in the middle of making a Pinterest board for my 2024 inspo/vibe. We'll see where it leads. Oh and I doubt you're insulting anyone with the "anti-beige sweatpants" comment. I think we're all better than beige around here😁 Happy new year!

So so so so spot on! I am always inspired and then I shop my own collections. I did add several new bits but not many. Getting rid of the retained things that I wore 57 years ago Levi's, tall Fry's, Nordic sweater, white, beat up docs is not an option because I wore them yesterday to a class reunion meeting (55 in May).
@judithjensen24579 ай бұрын
One more comment- I've hated this "old money" trend literally all my adult life. It's creepy, boring, and completely fake. And, the same goes for the copycats- Style is not legislated, weaponized, or mandated by the "age" of someone's money.

Hi Annette, I just recently discovered you & your channel and I’m loving it! 🥰 My goals for 2024 are definitely to eliminate bland basics and to add more colour and especially patterns to my wardrobe. And to experiment and ‘not match’. I’ve already started purging my closet, enjoy thrifting and am excited to start developing my own unique style. Thanks for the inspiration! ✨

Indeed... I'm trying to do less/obvious "matchy-matchy" and more "different but works"/coordinates with the whole look.

When I ‘purge’ my closet, I stick to current season items. A gauzy top is not going appeal to me when it’s 5 degrees out, even if I wear it frequently in the summer. Likewise, a fisherman sweater would be horrible to contemplate in July, even if it’s a wintertime staple.

Im sorr of laughing/ crying.. while you're talking about boring beige and black.. and all the color.. i literally like yesterday afternoon went through my closet and grabbed every colorful itsm iny closet and donated to goodwill... I literally have only beige, white and black, navy , greys left.. 😢... I operate on two speeds unfortunately.. all or nothing... I just buried my mom three weeks ago and i want my outside to mirror my inside.. color feels like a slap in the face to me right now.. but i still like color and playing dress up.. some day in the future.. 🙏🕊️
