Loved watching this! I didn't go to FIT, but my older brother's wife (who was like a big sister to me growing up) was a student there and she sold her hand-sewn clothes for a while. She mostly does interior design work now, but her creative spirit really influenced me in life. I thought of going to FIT after my early college experience inspired me to change directions, but went to trade school instead. Still wonder what it'd have been like if I'd gone though! Love your vids Diana, and that sweater is pure amazing. Cant wait to see what you continue to create!

Wow thanks for sharing and tuning in! I think that FIT is definitely a place filled with so many inspiring students but the school itself gives way for that creative growth too. Perhaps give a course a try for fun ☺️ Even if it's just one!

I'm still deciding on want to do in my career path. But I was always interested in music, acting, dancing, fashion and science. I think I want to be in the entertainment industry because I have more experience and most of my hobbies involve with that but I also love fashion and I had a little phase where I wanted to fashion/interior designer and I was doing everything I can do to be the best I can be, I created my own pieces. As a kid science always fascinated me and everything about science interest me. My love grew when I went to a medical school and they had a whole display of real human body parts and the brain was one of them and found it so fascinating what the brain can do, and I want to be a Nero scientist, or some part of a job where I can study the brain. I'm in high school and I don't know what I want to do, what career path I want to take. I just want to make the right decision because I want to happy with my job and not get bored with it and not regret my career choice.

I am so happy I saw this video... I am currently a biology major (plan was to either become and ob/gyn or vet), and I've always wanted to do fashion design since I was young like elm. school but because of family reasons I chose to become a doctor (it's a stable career choice right lol) but these last two semesters have made me realize... I just don't want to disappoint my mom or fail. I dont have extra money for school I'm on full scholarship right now so... But I really want to do what I love. I am actually pretty good and I cant say I am good at many things. I have a lot of my designs up on my dorm wall and on the first week of school all these girls came into my room and they all were like why aren't you a fashion major, why are you doing bio lol...
@dianachamomile8 жыл бұрын
+Dahlia Mann Thank you for sharing your story with me Dahlia! You seem to be quite talented and inspired! I'm currently also not sure how much I love what I'm doing with my own career path BUT we're both young! So remember to venture out and I encourage you to try to discover yourself. The only way you'll know what you want is by chasing that dream! P.S. When I first told my mom about going to FIT she was pretty disappointed but with time she came to be one of my greatest supporters! Give your parents a chance in trying to understand the way you feel too.

ok i have a question... first off its crazy how similar our stories are! We both were thinking about biology and a medical career but end up finding fashion design! But my question is is there a specialty for men clothing or something similar to that? I am very interested in making mens clothing but of everything i have seen so far its mainly dresses and skirts and things focused on women. i know the fashion design major is mostly women so it makes sense but i was just wondering
@dianachamomile8 жыл бұрын
Oh no there is DEFINITELY a huge market in menswear. Some of my fashion design girlfriends have gone on to doing it as well. FIT has a specific major just for menswear so definitely look into it! 😊

This video is great! thanks so much. I have a question you said you went into Fashion Design with out knowing anything and infant took sewing classes. did you really not know anything or you're saying like compared to other peoples amount of knowledge on it? because I've always loved Fashion Design but i'm always like oh I'm not a good drawer i cant design my own stuff cause of that or sewing in some cases so i was wondering how much you really knew before applying and sending in your portfolio and stuff? Thanks
@dianachamomile9 жыл бұрын
+Fiorella Angelelli I didn't know anything about fashion at all! I've always had an underlying love for it and used to watch a ton of fashion youtube styling videos. But that was about it! As far as my portfolio, I took beginner sewing lessons in the city and learned to draw via youtube tutorials. I also had some guidance from a seamstress in terms of drawing the garments I made for my portfolio but that's about it! Hope that helps! x

Cholpon Sadykova AAS is your associate'a and it covers a very broad but amazing understanding of fashion design. You can absolutely take just your AAS but a lot of jobs unfortunately ask for a Bachelor's degree during the hiring process.
@cholponsadykova38088 жыл бұрын
SlipsAndStones I see. So before the bachelor it is mandatory to take AAS, right?

Hi Diana, my name is Maggie^^Recently I also got accepted to FIT & I signed up do the Fall 2016 class!^^Im majoring in Fashion Business Management Semester 1 for 2 Years. Does that mean that I have that class for semester 1 & than have a different major class for semester 2 for 2 years? Also, I kinda want to major in Cosmetology & Fragrance for the last 2 years too...what do u personally think about that? Like would that be a good plan? Btw this is your last year @ FIT right?(since dis your senior year). Do u think FIT really helped u get ready to find a job in the fashion industry or not so much?/Do u feel ready? Sorry for all the questions & thank you^^
@dianachamomile8 жыл бұрын
+magyeollie z Hey love! FMM is your major, meaning you will need to get your degree in that field! (unless you decide to switch majors) FIT works with two degrees, each two years in length depending on whether or not you're a full time student! And I'm not 100% sure of how majors work but I believe you can do both of those. I'd highly suggest talking to a student advisor for how you can plan out which majors you can choose for each degree. And YES! I do feel that FIT helped out a ton! I'm totally ready to go into the industry. Just don't know if I want to pursue fashion design anymore for personal reasons. :)
@maggiezhang40818 жыл бұрын
+WildMoon aww thank you for your answer^^If I want to talk to a student advisor how do I find one/them? Cause the only way I'm contacting FIT rn is by email & idk how to find a student advisor hehe...

I am currently a Sophomore in high school, and I've wanted to go to FIT for a few years now. Is there anything I can do now in advance to help me in the future with the acceptance into this school? I've not yet been to New York sadly, I live in Missouri but I will visit in the next year. I also don't know exactly what I want to major in but I know it's something within the industry. But please if you know of anything I can do in advance do tell ! Thank you so much.
@dianachamomile8 жыл бұрын
+Madisen Basham Definitely do a lot of research! I went into fashion design having no clue what it actually meant to me to be quite honest. They offer some classes for HS students as well :) If you're not really looking into getting a degree in something artistic, then I'm not quite sure how good FIT would be for business. I hear it's not as challenging to get a degree in FMM for example. The first step is finding where you belong and really just building up your knowledge from there. Hope that's not too vague! I'm just not sure which direction you're headed.
@dianachamomile8 жыл бұрын
+Madisen Basham Also, if you are leaning toward Fashion Merchandising, check out Sammi Quinn's FIT review. It's pretty helpful in that field!
