I love, love that Raja is dressed referencing a baroque male this time, since she did Marie Antoinette/BAroque woman back in season 3. I love Violet, I've paid to see her live, she's my favourite contestant but I will say, her cultural repertoire is actual rather limited though she seems to want to make the opposite impression. I first noticed this when she was interviewed after a Prada show and said she saw a lot of John Willie and fetishy influences (when really I don't think John Willie was even a speck of dust in Miuccia's mind designing the collection). It shows here as well, not recognising Raja's as a rather obvious and strikingly accurate recreation of the Louis XIV silhouette, but noting that Trinity's look is Erté-esque. It's fine she has the things she likes, but it's getting obvious she isn't the cultured fashion historian many people seem to make her out to be.

I think, in this context, Gottmik and Violet do not work very well together. They have extremely similar opinions and seems like Gottmik encourages Violet to be meaner. A more successful combination would be someone with different opinions and tastes to Violet’s who is also nicer. For example, in the Pit Stop, her harsh critiques were contrasted with Trixie/Monet’s “nicer” opinions and it worked perfectly well.

Raja’s ensemble is composed of layers of references. - It gives a nod at her iconic Marie Antoinette runway while directly referencing her husband King Louis XVI - Her name Raja means King in Indonesia hence the crown. It also double down on the King Louis reference - Notice her hair is shaped like elephant ears. Elephants are considered important cultural symbols in Indonesia. Royalty also ride on elephants. - The crown also looks like an elephant’s head. I love Violet but her comments snub the absolute brilliance of Raja’s runway. Raja’s runway is a heteroglossia. Timberlands are a specific staple of streetwear style and heeled tims were/are a specifically feminine version. Wearing them with tracksuits is a thing. I specifically remember it as a 00s thing. Add in crowns = a black woman''s hair, the tradition of hair art and competitions, and the importance of NYC/Queens in the history of streetwear. So Monet's look was specifically referencing streetwear, black culture, and connecting the concept of the royalty and crowns to black women and Queens. I'm sure I'm missing something but that is what I saw in it. I get not liking it. Everyone has the right to an opinion. It didn't seem like they got what Monet was doing though and I expect more in a fashion review.

Coming back a year later after watching Raja say in an interview that she LIVED for these two being cunty is a much more fun and less serious experience. Raja is my #1 queen and Violet is way up there too! Gottmik actually disagreed with a lot of what Violet said in this episode and I love hyper critical bitchy mean girls persona and Violet does it so well and it is so much funnier when Gottmik is being sweet and gets shocked and stuff. I love theyre dynamic

I agree... this pair seems to believe that only the rich can do drag, which is so bizarre. I just feel like Violet misses the point quite often due to her elitist attitude which lacks perspective, and Gottmik doesn't seem to have a personality of her own. Violet seems to have forgotten about her roots, and about the heart of what makes drag beautiful.
